I admire her bravery in competing here, but she clearly wasn't ready. I wish her coaches would have started her with a smaller competition. It was like going from 0 to 100 without any time for training and getting back in shape; she'd been away from the ice for 2 years, so it would have made sense to go to a small competition to get her feet wet. It's encouraging that she wanted to try, though with the TV cameras and the pressure of competing with such high-level athletes like Alina was simply too much, too soon. It would have given her more confidence and a boost if she had competed at a lower- level, smaller competition; she might have done much better, because there wouldn't have been as much pressure.
I question why she'd even want to come back since, from her statements, competitive skating seems to be at the root of her emotional problems. I give her credit for her courage competing in an international event after being away so long. But clearly, her skills have deteriorated in the interim and her skating's no longer up to that level. Whether or not she can regain what she lost or win any medals in the future is highly questionable because even at her young age (only 23), she's "old" for a competitive ladies skater. It would be tough for her to compete against the 14, 15, and 16 year-old Russian phenoms coming down the road in the next year or two (Medvedeva and Zagitova were just the tip of that iceberg). There are also very talented and hungry Japanese and Korean teens among the up and comers as well. And now there's the pubescent US champion Alyssa Liu and her triple axels and triple axel combination. I wish Gracie the very best and sincerely hope that attempting to return to competition didn't destroy all the progress she made since she left the ice. Maintaining her physical, psychological, and emotional health is far more important than attempting to win skating medals. There's a long life after competitive skating ends, and Gracie now ought to be thinking about how she wants to live it.
Well, Kostner was 31 and in 4 Olympics and was leading at worlds last year, so That works in her favor in terms of age. Many of the teens you mentioned won’t last either, as history has shown
Why is it considered offensive if someone says "you've gained weight!" and a compliment when someone says "you've lost weight!"? I actually get offended when someone says that I've lost weight.
Not Koola King get off your fat ass and go to a competition after a break... stfu you dumb bully! This was her first competition back! She will lose weight after she skates for a while in training. Don’t comment about her weight when she’s struggling. 😡
Wow... telling someone who is recovering from an eating disorder to lose weight... you’re a special kind of evil. What’s next? Are you going to tell someone feeling suicidal to jump off a bridge?

Not Koola King I’m sure she’s aware, what she doesn’t need is people like you telling her that. It’s fucking rude.
How much of an asshole do you have to be to tell someone recovering from an eating disorder to lose weight?!?!? And it lose not loose 🙄
