I lean toward Kim wrote these diary or loose collection of notes, but I have no idea how accurate what she may have written is. If she wrote it as I suspect, then it would be fairly accurate as nobody recalls everything with complete accuracy.

Your guest is 100% incorrect. The difference between a pilot and a person being interviewed is like comparing apples to oranges. In journalism, you fact-check. You ask the proper questions to understand the person, to get to the truth, and to draw in your audience. Anybody who signs up to be interviewed knows this.
Just like in a police interrogation, questions are asked to get to the truth even after the detective has done his/her research.
