I’m sure someone has already said this but if you applaud when someone catches a fish, you will both get the buff. You don’t need to catch fish next to each other. Just applaud. It’s a pretty cute feature.
I do things similarly to you, except I don't cook until after I fish. I only catch in nodes and I take my starred fish home and cook them all to get the cooking weeklies, then I sell the cooked fish.

This vid is quite old so if anyone still does it I’d love to know.
I just a few days ago learned that the easiest rare furniture to build is the Log Cabin Flower Planter.
