I agree that Hotter as Scarpia is a little high for him at this time 1966 and Ideally he should be seen as well. Also it is fascinating to hear him in a non German role.It would have been great to have his grand inquisitor from Don Carlo and Falstaff as well but he did leave quite a legacy behind .He came to Australia for some master classes and I chatted with after and he answered my many(too many) questions and explained some Schubert lied in great detail.A real ..all six foot of him…Gentleman and one of my great musical experiences.Ian
Hotter is not good, by this time the voice had got old.He sang a few Italian roles to good effect, his Amonasro was immense, the Rsdames was Bergonzi and Ramfis,Frick.
Hans Hotter is an enormous artist

31:50 Tradirmi egli nun può... Tosca divina
At the end of the first act I heared the applause.
There is no "nearby"applause from next theatre-box.
So it is a radio broadcast or the house-wire.
What does it mean this 19:30 in the first line?
The start time of the evening performance.
00:38:09: Tre sbirri... Va Tosca
I'm surprised to hear Hotter sing in Italian. Not a real good interpretation, though...
