A woman I work with has a granddaughter who was born without the connective tissue. She has never cried. They had to wake her every few hours when she was tiny--she wouldn't cry when she was hungry. She's severely mentally handicapped. Non verbal. She's a young adult now, and she'll never be able to take care of herself. But she's loved, and happy.

A TV program once had adults with a severed corpus callosum look through an oculist's device -- the sort you look into when getting your eyes checked -- that had two different people's images in the separate eyepiece. When ASKED what image they saw, they responded with just the one image. When asked IN WRITING to WRITE what they'd seen, they responded with the other image. And no one had any clue what their responses were reflecting.

The way a classical lobotomy would work is by inserting a tool to sever some of this connection. This was often achieved with an ice pick being forced through a facial cavity (for minimal bone to punch through) and into the brain. That is why in many cases it didn't actually provide any real change to underlying behavioral or psychiatric problems, but was still deemed a success because it disabled the recipient just enough that they would be more easily pacified and controlled without killing or causing severe long-term memory loss (except for a few cases).

The horse's brain hemispheres do not connect. Thus if he shies from the dumpster but you calm him and move forward past the monster, aka the dumpster you still have a challenge ahead. On the trip going home you will have to do it again. Take the time to show him the dumpster in both sides of their head.

    • @IMWeira

@@GreatLakesGirl311 Another good to thing to know is that horses snooze a little all the time. They do very little actual sleep. Thus they can easily forget there are humans around. If they are scared they can run or kick. Either way you can be seriously hurt by a very calm horse who was half asleep when you suddenly appear to him. Keep a radio on, carry keys or noise makers on a loop of your jeans. If you walk close behind a horse put out a hand on his butt before he senses up something behind him. In short, make noise and stay inside or outside of his effective strike zone.
