Giovanni does use the BSL often to thank. It became the signature gesture of Rose and him since their partnership.
And they still communicate in their particular style on Instagram with (funny) stories.
I think that their connection is comparable to the one of Jayne Torville and Christopher Dean.

I think she was putting in effort otherwise she wouldn't have been tearful when she left which shows someone who cares. You have to remember she's a novice dancer.
