I made 4 domino holders for what we call Mexican train for my daughter. They work pretty well but were rather involved in the making. I like your design with the ease in construction. BTW I have the identical Sears router table that I got 40 years ago. And it also has the identical broken bit guard as yours as well. I too would like something better but this takes up very little room and is easy to move around. Enjoying your videos. Dwight
Dwight L Hi Dwight - Thanks for watching! Even my 9 and 7 year old granddaughters play Mexican Train dominoes very well. A fun game, and nicer with holders. Big coincidence with the router table & its' condition, no? Thanks for your kind words!
I made mine 4 1/2 inches wide by 11 inches long which will allow each row to hold 5 dominoes. I used a 1" by 6" by 6 ' long piece of select pine to make 6. I also used a 1" by 6" by 3' piece of quality pine to make 3 to see if it would be a good enough quality, which it was. I used a 3/8" dado blade set up at a 15 degree angle to cut the groves. I made the dado cuts 1" inch apart then ripped away the front and rear to make them 4 1/2" inches wide. I used a router to round the edges.
James What a gorgeous Deck and what a nice stack of leftover wood good project I guess you're going to play a lot of Dominos As far as your router you can easily mount it to one of the wings on your table saw and it takes no extra room
Albert Furtado Hey Al - Thank you so much. Giving away sets of 6 as gifts - but yes - we do play a lot.Router on the saw sounds like a good solution - will check it out - thanks!
Is this for advanced wood workers? great video, one thing you missed the part where you need at least $400 worth of table saw, dado blades, router, router bits and scrap cedar. Step 2, head over to ebay and type in " domino holders " I have to say, great, well , explained video.
Ouch, it is totally illegal to use a circular saw without the blade guard being in position. I'll admit that I've done it in private but it should not be shown on social media. I also see in the video that the band saw and router have no guards on them either. Health and Safety would have a field day in this workshop. I'm surprised that this DIY man has a full set of fingers on each hand. A friend of mine lost two fingers using a circular saw when full safety guards were not in position. Cedar is indeed a beautiful wood to work with but teak has always been my favourite.
number 1, its a table saw, not a circular saw, 2. blade guards can not be used when cutting a dado stack. It can only be used when your cutting all the way through the material, not half way.
Sir, Thank you for sharing some great tips as well. Very adaptable.
Glad it was helpful!
Great idea! Beautiful work with the deck!! Thank for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Very good!!! I wish i could do it myself. Im abaout to pay a fortune for those. Well Done James.
Thanks for watching!
I really like your simple design for a dominoes holder. I too have some left over cedar and will be making some of these holders. Thanks for sharing.
