Great video. I remember in the 80s one of the cooling towers actually collapsed in very strong winds. It was rebuilt but is a slightly different shade to the remaining 7.
Guerdley marsh had tall concrete pillars to stop gliders and aircraft landing on the marsh, there is a pipe line that goes under the the river that you could physically pass through level with the power station
@@djjohnnyatjdmfm5995 the tunnel should still be there it carried pipes through to the power station ,many years ago I travelled through the tunnel but that is another story.
@@davidforbes368 Thanks David. I suspect they will disappear comply when the power station is completely demolished. Do you know what went through the pipes? Was it cooling water from the Mersey / lagoons?
The tunnel was there before the power station was built, it was large enough for a man to walk through with cables and pipes attached to the walls and a gantry walk way, cheers
@@davidforbes368 Thanks David. I am aware of an old water supply that is routed under the river in that area - from the Lake District (I presume?). I wonder if that is the tunnel you walked through?
Isn't the power station technically in Widnes? "Me girlfriend said kiss me where it smells...I said I'm not taking you to Widnes at this time o night".....lol
The sort of film that makes youtube worthwhile. Keep up the nice work.
Dan Walker Thanks Dan! Very much appreciated and yes I certainly will! Glad you enjoy my little videos!

You are absolutely right Briwire!! I remember that windy day, when the tower fell!! It collapsed on itself perfectly!
That wind blew part of my roof off in Grange Drive
Loving the Burtonwood info.....knowledge is strength....another place i'd like to do a history of.

Sounds fascinating David. Are there any old maps/ references that I can find this?

They can't go anywhere on the canal from the marina apart from the river and have not been able to for years

No it's on the Warrington side of the border even though it is closer to the centre of widnes.
