DJJohnny visits Monks Hall - Sankey, Warrington!
Hi Johnny sadly u tube doesn’t let one send photos so as promised here’s another poem about Latchford locks around when I was 6 or 7 . Visits to Warrington Visits now were only to Grandma other Now a Bonny baby arrived ,I had a little brother . Mum in motor bike side car , with Alan all a bundled, Me like a rear gunner on pillion crumpled , Hanging on to Dads raincoat, and upon reflection All disgruntled with no helmets for protection Warrington was then overrun withUSAF GIs At Burtonwood their presence could not be disguised. Very smart in uniform and chewing gum , Surprised to see them one by one Black soldiers queuing along with whites. To catch the same bus seemed ok and right Mum and I were walking beside the ship canal , Watching as US troops all in full gear All quiet ,probably scared and in fear Troop ships in Latchford locks were moored , Taking these soldiers to fight the Korean War In full kit their khaki skull caps at a angle jaunty Could I get a hat like that , perhaps if good but not naughty ! S
Thanks for your videos on Warrington . I was born in there in 1942 and both my paternal and maternal grandmothers lived in Slater Street and Belmont Ave , and have many memories visiting the town , as my family moved to Crewe during the war , as my Dad was transferred to Rolls Royce to build aero engines ! I live in New Zealand now and at the behest of one my granddaughters here , thought I’d fought in the Vietnam War ,,as she had to write an essay on the war for school.I did tell her I would be around 13 when that event started ! Anyhow it gave me the idea of writing down about visiting Warrington and growing up in Crewe . Here is one effort about Latchford swing bridge when I must have been about aged five or so , and A Bridged to Far On the Manchester ship canal then A series of swing bridges ,when A basket went up, and traffic stopped at gate. The bridge mechanically swung to facilatate For a foreign ship to pursue And allow safe passage through We were once I remember clear Allowed to stand whilst bridge was in gear And oranges were thrown from the ship below To catch and take to Belmont Ave A treasure to bestow We waved our thanks to those men in uniform As fresh fruit was scarce , rationing was the norm And not forgetting the bridge man there We gave him an orange ‘‘twas only fair
@@johnastall9364 Thanks for your lovely story John! Very much appreciated and great history! 😀😀😀

yet i cant find any info on this prick or his family
My Father when 18 was called up 1940 and trained at Padgate Camp as a RAF fitter and then specialised as a 20 and 30mm Hispano Cannon armourer on Beaufighters and then Mosquitoes
@@phillipsmiley5930 Thanks for your interesting story about your father Philip! You must be very proud of him! 😀😀😀
02:11 Re: the stocks. Now they put them on social media!
Hope you are well haven't seen any videos for a while, they are really Interesting and loved them
Thanks for your comment and glad you enjoy my videos. I am currently very busy looking after grand children, but as soon as I am able to get out and about again - DJJohnny will be back! So watch this space! 😀😀
My home town. Left Latchford (aka “LA”) in 1980. Only been back a few times. Love those gates. Always a great sight on Walking Day.
It’s 2 pubs, a church and a canal. It’s nice but that’s about all there is. Ram’s Head is better than the Parr Arms.
One of these stones is at the end of my road! I never knew this is where they came from. It's a shame they're overgrown - I might go out and restore one, Lol!
What's happened, DJ Jonny, to your videos on Warrington's History, do you no longer make them ?
Hi Lawrence, thanks for your concern, am having to have some time off from my videos at the moment - due to spending most of my time looking after grandchildren. However, as soon as I can get out and about again, DJJohnny will return. So watch this space and thanks again for your comment. 😀😀
@djjohnnyatjdmfm5995 . Thanks for your prompt reply. I am also looking after grandchildren, so know what it's like.
@@lawrencewilliams333 But it’s all great fun Lawrence, and you will never get that time back, so certainly worth it in spades! Have a great evening! 😀
Where have you gone. I love your videos I hope you return
Aww, thanks for your comment, I am having to have a bit of a sabbatical from my videos at the moment - due to baby sitting duties for my grandchildren. I therefore have very little time to plan and do my videos. However, I do hope to get back on screen as soon as I can! So watch this space and keep tuned in! Thanks again for your comment! 😀😀😀
the other Lion you keep to look up
one at the old Dog and Dart traffic lights on at the Top of Barrymore rd
Thanks Johnny, I found it really interesting, didn’t know about Monks Hall. I find Penketh&Great Sankey to be a very influential part of Warrington. Loved your history lesson.
did you go on the Mersey this summer when the river was lowerd
power station / Rock oil / Northwest Farmers
I spend a lot of time going around taking photos i dont do videos ( well not yet ) in Warrington to much as been knocked down
the MSC used the route of the Runcorn / Latchford
08:28 the buildings on the other side of blackbear brigbe were also warehouses
blackbear pub / blackbear canal
This an absolutely sensational discovery, a hidden genius. His sense of image, composition and above all drawing, that is his use of line, is pure genius.❤ At the same time I am enraged😡 This is absolutely freaking typical of this freaking country. We DON'T RECOGNIZE AND REWARD TALENT. In any other country his work would be on the walls of schools hospitals public buildings and all over the National Gallery. Here's a genius in our midst, but this being Britain ... he is ignored 😡😠🤬☠🤯
Loving your clips of old Latchford Jon they’re really interesting 👍
Thanks for your comments and so pleased you are enjoying my little videos. Having a little break at the moment - due to family commitments, but hope to continue as soon as I can get out and about again! 😀😀
Now compost toilet is more environment friendly, use sawdust or shredded straw or leaves to cover up then it’s smell and fly free and composted into fertilizer for gardens.
I love this channel. I've not seen DJ Johnny on here for a while, and I really hope he is ok. I know these videos can take a while to create. Hope to see you again soon DJ
Thanks for your lovely comment Neil, I am absolutely fine thanks, just incredibly busy looking after 4 small grandchildren - which is taking up most of my time at the moment. Hence the reason why I have not had even one minute to do a video for quite some time. However, rest assured, as soon as I get the opportunity to get out and about again, DJJohnny will be back! Very best wishes. DJJohnny! 😀😀😀
Hi Johnny you still out there? I've almost given up hope on this series now. Having met you I hope all is OK for you and we can look forward to more videos in the future? Best wishes and take care mate
Thanks for your comments Jimmy and so sorry for the significant delay to the Latchford series. With 4 small grandchildren to look after, regrettably I don’t get much feee time. However, rest assured that as soon as I get a minute, DJJohnny will be back! Meanwhile, thanks for your patience and looking forward to catching up again at some point in the future! Very best wishes. John 😀😀😀
Fantastic rendition! 🤣👍
They can't go anywhere on the canal from the marina apart from the river and have not been able to for years
Surprised that life jackets were not worn flying over water ?
Great yomp 👌
I remember the bridge being built! We lived on Ackers rd, (I used to play around Ackers Pit|) and I went to St. Augustin's in Latchford. There was a model of the proposed impending construction in the museum!
Grappenhall actually has 3 great pubs, you missed ‘The Bellhouse’ which is further down from the Parr Arms on Bellhouse Lane.
Ah dammit I was looking forward to seeing the grammar school road video!
Watch this space Andy! Will do it as soon as I get a minute! Thanks for your support! 😀😀😀
Brilliant video. Interesting fact about the Cenotaph is that it did stand in its original position when it was unveiled in the 1920's
Thanks for your comments! Very much appreciated. 😀😀
It's a bit niche but still deserves more views, thank you. These videos will be useful for future generations when we're all long gone.
Great video. Love that you're recording this for posterity
Thanks for your comment! Much appreciated! 😀😀
Hi Johnny my mother was born on prince street which was in between the school gates and knutsford road in 1930 💜👍

Aww! So pleased you are enjoying them Kevin! I do plan to do the Orford area at some point, but I am quite busy at the moment. However, watch this space and you never know! Thanks for your message! 😀😀😀
