UNCLE LLOYD

He was not my father’s brother
But he wished that he could be
Told us kids to call him Uncle
We would be his family
He had a wife and kids in Fresno
The youngest one was twenty-four
Daddy brought him into our house
They didn’t want him anymore
He helped us work the family business
Building fences in the sun
He worked just like a man of twenty
Till the working day was done
He and Dad would spend their evenings
Sitting in lawn chairs in the yard
Where they’d drink a toast to Seagram’s
Seagram’s never went down hard
(Chorus)
Won’t you wake up, Uncle Lloyd
Got a lot of work today
We’ll get Don to make the coffee
Load that truck and be on our way
Friday night you can drive to Vegas
Maybe this time you will win
Buy a trailer by the river
And you won’t have to work again
He was sleeping in the workroom
With a mattress on the floor
When one night I heard him crying
As I passed outside his door
He cried, “Rita, girl, I love you
Rita, darling, please don’t go
I’ve tried hard to make you happy
I’ve done everything I know”
Then I heard the bottle open
The tipping up and putting down
Heard the rustling of the covers
Then he did not make a sound
I thought of thirty years of Rita
Standing sternly by his side
All the years of hanging in there
And all the emptiness inside
And I thought of how their children
Have children of their own
And how a man at fifty-seven
Winds up living so alone
(Chorus)
Friday night you can drive to Vegas
Maybe this time you will win
Buy a trailer by the river
And you won’t have to work again
Work again Видеоклипы
American music like this fills my heart with pride and joy. I’m blessed to live here with y’all.
I'm Uncle Lloyd my family ain't want me no more cause of alota time spent in another place inside but I was offered the shed and a bed. Use the bathroom and shower but now I'm n the Country by myself kids are grown 51 and got cirrhosis and stomach cancer but that is my fault!!! Thank You Steel Woods for the Great Music American by birth Southern by God's Amazing Grace!!!!!!!!
I hope you found peace, Brother. ❤️
This will forever remind of my uncle Gerry. Passed away 8 years ago. He was devastated by his ex wife and he did his best to live his life past that and I think he did his best. He died in our living room of a heart attack. In the end he was loved dearly. Still miss him terribly.
I was 57. My wife and myself broke up. My daughter was 25 with a son. My youngest was 17. 28 yrs of marriage. This song hit home for me.
Peace to you, Brother. ❤️
I'm sorry brother that's hard God bless you
Hell yeah! Darrell Scott should be proud!
Almost identical to the original, with thir own signature in it. Amazing.
He Is!
Makes me remember of a song which the old man goes to live with his married son. His son wife complained, and the young man went to his old man to ask him to leave, saying "take this piece of ox leather which I had just tanned, to serve you as a blanket wherever you go to sleep". The old man took the leather piece and silently crossed the door out, but his 8yrs old grandson ran after him and crying hugged in his suit asked him "grandpa, gimme half of this piece of ox leather". With a heart broken of seeing his grandson crying, the old man gave him half of the ox leather piece he had. When the boy came back inside his house, his father asked, "why did you do that?", and the boy replied, "father, one day I'll grow up, and you will go to live with me in my house. But maybe come that we don't match each other, so this piece of ox leather I'll give for you to use as a blanket, anywhere you go to sleep."
do ya know the name of that song ?
@@carbonitegamorrean8368 Yes, it's a brazilian song, I'm afraid it won't make sense because of the language... But the name is "Couro de boi". Here it goes: watch?v=OntD9DVqVoE
Thank you, I read the words (translated) while I listened to the song.
Ma pleasure. It's a pretty old tune, but as always, old tunes are often much better than many fresh ones.

Your words are enveloping. Sometimes it's beautiful sometimes it hurts. Thank you for both
3 years on and this is still one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. I hope Uncle Lloyd is winning big in that Casino in the sky.
We had an adopted cousin who was like our uncle cause he was as old as our dad. He lived in Europe and I don’t know much about him. Anyway, no personal connection to lyrics but this band brings me to tears and goosebumps. So much emotion. Rock that says my name is my favorite!
