This song spent 26 weeks on the Top 100 in the US and only got as high as #29 but due to being on the charts for such a long time, it was the 88th biggest hit of 1982. Their song "Never" from Footloose doesn't get the love that it deserves.
WOW. I just realized its the same group lol. Never is a great song. Footloose the soundtrack is literally the definition of the 80s to me. Great songs for everyone and every mood. Its beautiful
Simply a powerful voice and real musicians. Blows today’s crap out of the water. Even the audience is more in tune than the so-called vocalists we have now.
Yes, it is very sad that the little boy cannot get adequate service in the corner store. Being young, poor and short is no reason to ignore a small child at the corner shop.
I remember being around 11 or 12 years old when this song came out, and every time I heard this song it would send chills through my whole body - I was totally captivated. The only other act that had that effect on me was David Bowie many years before! Still love them both!!
Now here is a real vocalist ! Australasia has some real vocalist, in addition met a college student from Australia when she spoke it was just magnificent I found reasons to keep her talking.
Another great band from the glory days of Australian pub rock Moving pictures were a very well oiled machine Always put on a great show Had every one up having a great time Cheers to those days !
Damn, playing this AGAIN - - you can hear the pain in his voice, equally as important - - you can actually hear the pain in the audience's voices, this just rings so true to SO MANY of us red-blooded humans.
Was on the loo eating a farquat and chatting with my Bogan. Realised that Alex Smith is monumentally more competent than Shannon Knoll when asking the important question "What about you?"
All hail the majesty of the Roland Synths, and Alex Smith's incredible voice. If this song doesn't make the hair on the back of your neck stand up, you are dead.
This singer and the lead singer from "Marmalade" who did "Reflections of my life" around 1969 are 2 of the greatest singers in rock history in my opinion. And it blows my mind that they're not better known to everyone.
The sign of a great singer: singing all the high notes perfect like he does in the recording. No going down several notes haha! No studio magic! This man has some serious voice.
This is, indeed, the version MTV used to play, back in the day when they actually played music. It was my introduction to Moving Pictures, and I've been a fan, ever since. Alex Smith's vocal range is phenomenal, and the sound of this band, live, is amazing! Kudos to the sound and production crew for catching, pretty much, every nuance of this song...the timpani were missed, but that fretless bass still sounds great! This version will always be the version I know and love...thanks for posting!
Sounds even better live and i hardly ever say that, great powerful voice thats perfectly in tune with so much feeling and emotion, most of todays music just sucks.
Me too. I was 18 when this song was released. I still think about this song and play it often. The same with Benny Mardones - Into the Night. Another awesome forgotten song of the 80s. As Alex Smith says this song was written by their guitar who worked with Autistic children as his day job back then and he was in a shop during his lunch hour where he saw a little boy not being noticed by the counter clerk who just ignored the boy. Sad. My son who is 19 has Autism and I have seen this happen first hand.
I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one who feels this way. I still shiver when he whispers. one of my favorite songs ever!! Awesome I LOVE the way he whispers WHAT ABOUT ME> So Real.
@kattstoy He was down at Dee Why RSL in Sydney last night with the rest of Moving Pictures. Man, still as good as the old days. You are right, it was a better time for music, they were real musicians. And for those under 30, this is what local pub gigs used to be like in the 70s and 80s.
I'm 26 and 70s 80s are the only music I listen to. But why wasn't this song more popular in the 80s? it's such a beautiful song! I'm in love with it. Sweet Cherie' is another great song.
This song still gets into my soul. The emotion Alex puts into this live version…and the studio version is amazing. And, again…gets me every time. Definitely one of ultimate favorites. I was a freshman in high school when it came out.
I was sitting on the loo reading the paper when this song came on asking the important question WHAT ABOUT ME??? Felt very emotional as songs are oft made to do.
I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one who feels this way. I still shiver when he whispers. One of the most underrecognized songs ever. Great song in my personal top 50 ever made. one of my favorite songs ever!! Awesome
you can tell his wife is singing in the audience in this video she is great singing along with alex smith the audience were alex smith's friends and the audience were singing along even me i sang along with him while watching this video how awesome :)
+Jennifer Only stations that play 80's music, might, just might play a song like this.. But then again.. I have not heard this song on the radio since 1990.. Why?? It's an uplifting song.. Uplifting songs are frowned upon in today's society.. Nowadays, songs about trash talk, hate, violence, etc.., are the norm.
This may seem weird, but when I watch these videos I think about the people in the audience and where they are now. I wonder if they tell their kids they were in a video back in the 80s and how millions of people watched them back in the day. That's just me though.
One of my personal favourites back in 1983 and just as relevant today. The only thing is, back then I thought they were Canadian because of Rush's "Moving Pictures" album! My error...one of Australia's many, many fine contributions to well-written songs.
Alex's voice still thrills me, it's been 40 years since I was 13

Its not about the song, its about Alex's incredible voice, nothing compares !!!!
I have heard this song so many times, but it never gets old. Magical.
How can anyone sing this song live so faithful to the original single ..just a mind blowing voice.
It really is a great live vocal.
Agreed!
One of the best songs from the 80’s.
It truly is. Sadly, I had almost forgotten about it. Hearing it today for the first time in like almost 40 years.
@@maxxxmodelz4061 Yeah! I heard a bit of it yesterday on the radio and had all but forgotten it so it was such a pleasure to hear it again!
Glad to hear this song ,what about me, beautiful song.
What a superb live vocal performance.
Simply a powerful voice and real musicians. Blows today’s crap out of the water. Even the audience is more in tune than the so-called vocalists we have now.
WOW! He does it perfect live😮👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Watching this as little kid in the 80s, it always put me into tears. Still does.
This song always makes me cry ... 😢such a powerful song..
Yes, it is very sad that the little boy cannot get adequate service in the corner store. Being young, poor and short is no reason to ignore a small child at the corner shop.
Drying my tears now..
One of the most underrecognized songs ever. Great song in my personal top 50 ever made.

I remember being around 11 or 12 years old when this song came out, and every time I heard this song it would send chills through my whole body - I was totally captivated. The only other act that had that effect on me was David Bowie many years before! Still love them both!!

Moving pictures were a very well oiled machine
Always put on a great show
Had every one up having a great time
Cheers to those days !
I used to see Moving Pictures playing at local bars. They were always a good live band. Really clean and tight.
Damn, playing this AGAIN - - you can hear the pain in his voice, equally as important - - you can actually hear the pain in the audience's voices, this just rings so true to SO MANY of us red-blooded humans.
Truly a timeless song. Excellent live performance.
Man what a beautiful song!🎵 great 80s tune!👌😎👍
I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one who feels this way. I still shiver when he whispers.
Alex SMith what a genius! Just listen to those soaring vocals - Shannon Noll could never get close to that sort of gear!!
Was on the loo eating a farquat and chatting with my Bogan. Realised that Alex Smith is monumentally more competent than Shannon Knoll when asking the important question "What about you?"

I remember this video being played on MTV.
Such memories!
It is so moving to see everyone enjoying the song so much and hearingb them song along.

Song brings back fond memories of my teenage days
I still get chills when I hear this song.....
I was 19 years old in 1982 when I first heard this via MTV. This very video. I was such a lonely person. This was like an anthem for lonely people.
Just heard this on my local radio station..remember it from years gone by. I had to look it up..happy I found it!
Watched these guys back 1979 at Mona Vale Pub work there way up the ladder and through early 80`s great sound great band .

Agreed, Shannon nolls version was my favorite. I have been looking for the original 4 ages. This guy gets those high notes and then some.
This is a song that most radio stations today, will refuse to play.
+Jennifer Only stations that play 80's music, might, just might play a song like this.. But then again.. I have not heard this song on the radio since 1990.. Why?? It's an uplifting song.. Very oddly...I woke this morning with this song in my head.
This may seem weird, but when I watch these videos I think about the people in the audience and where they are now. I wonder if they tell their kids they were in a video back in the 80s and how millions of people watched them back in the day. That's just me though.

Saw them in Newcastle(the home of pub rock) in 2011 What about Me sung by Moving Pictures now off the bucket list.
One of my personal favourites back in 1983 and just as relevant today. The only thing is, back then I thought they were Canadian because of Rush's "Moving Pictures" album! My error...one of Australia's many, many fine contributions to well-written songs.
This is the most beautiful songs, the lyrics are so true, love it my favourite.
