  • Magnesium, Gorgon, and Headlight... what do these bands have in common? Well, they're all great old school heavy metal bands heavily connected to Japanese black metal, and they're all part of a movement in the underground I'm calling the NWOJHM! Watch this to find out what the heck that means!

The word of the day is "emotionality". I've been obsessed with these bands for years now and it's nice to see someone cover them and put into words what's so great about them. It's hard to find the music and people discussing it online.

I saw Magnesium when they played one of the after shows after Sacrifice (Jpn) in NYC. One of the best shows I've ever seen, Samm is a metal god! I don't remember the rest of the lineup but Jero was playing bass that night.

    Very respectable bands.
    I know and like Magnesium.
I have to delve into Gorgon, because I only slightly touched their music, and what I heard in the episode encourages me.
I didn't recognize the third band, so I learned something new from the episode.
And actually, something was articulated here that I had previously felt but couldn't name. I'm mainly a fan of classic subgenres and have always seen much more in common between my original field of interest and black metal than death. Maybe that's why, although I respect a lot of dm bands, I don't really listen to them (except deaththrash), and good bm appeals to me strongly.
    Hail from Poland!

Excellent bands, all three of them. Thanks for exposing more people to these bands. Still waiting for a dedicated Metalucifer episode though.

Gorgon is so badass. Not a single full length in sight

I mean you can kind of pretend that Heavy Metal Superstars and Buried 'n' Live are like Gorgon and Magnesium full-lengths. No such luck with Headlight though!

Hearing a bit of UJR era scorpions in these bands, especially Magnesium

Even though you cover bands I already know and enjoy (really surprised to see someone talk about these 3 in particular) I still enjoy listening to your commentary.

If you feel the need for some outlier NWOBHM in your life - 'Black Ice' by Aragorn is on RUclips, skidmarks 'n all.

I had a feeling that this episode was coming soon. I had just dipped my feet into Magnesium, so this was the perfect time for this to come out. Safe to say I was not disappointed! If you ask me, old style heavy metal like this is truly the biggest poser repellent out there. Speaking of poser repellent, are you at all into Pagan Alter? and if so, have you ever thought about doing an episode on them? I think they would make for a great analysis. Fantastic episode as always!

Yeah, Pagan Altar's good stuff. I listen to Judgement of the Dead all the time!

Cool video as ever dude, few bands i have heard of surprisingly enough.
Also been enjoying the latest Cobes fun? Im waiting for him to lose his shit at female warlord on stream properly and watching him getting progressively more annoyed with her is classic.
Hope you are doing well dude.

I'm kind of WAITING PATIENTLY for her to go away, she really sucks. She's probably going to get him killed.

@@radiofreeinnsmouth1337 Oh don't get me wrong, she's absolutely a negative force and she absolutely bonkers, but watching him try to reign her in as she spazzes out over every single negative comment about her in the chat is pretty golden.
I'm wondering if they're actually going to make the eight days or not. That and the inevitable fallout when he drops her like a hot rock after getting the bog roll dipped in her wiccan hole.

Anthem is by far the best Japanese heavy metal band. They have the best singers, the best guitars and drums and they had graham bonnet

  • @blackwind677

I just like how the japanese love their old school heavy metal just as much as their grindcore or goregrind. I don't hear as much from the regular ol black or death metal side. Maybe I'm still green

      @radiofreeinnsmouth1337  7 месяцев назад +1

They've definitely got a bunch of black and death metal too. Two of my all-time favorite death metal bands are from there actually, Intestine Baalism and Vomit Remnants. The black metal from there tends to be super weirdo stuff like Sigh, Reek of the Unzen Gas Fumes, Endless Dismal Moan, Manierisme... also a lot of black/thrash like Abigail and Sabbat.
