The drummer / vocalist used to play in another band called Rites Of Thy Degringolade with the dude from Svolder/Blood Libel. Another fun fact, one of the dudes from Tomb Mold was once in a band with the guy behind Svolder/Blood Libel. I find it hilarious that if you look hard enough pretty much everyone in the scenes paths have crossed in one way or another and if that fact happened to come out Tomb Mold would be in big trouble with the RABM bozos
Funny you mention this war metal act being inspired by disEMBOWLMENT. Having listened to the Pantalgia comp they're on, a lot of the fast moments of their song reminds a lot of the first Bestial Warlust album. An australian band too funnily enough. Got that weird sound during the blasting moments that I don't remember the full length being that fast, even on the song they rerecorded.
I actually listened to a whole bunch of Sammath and Kaeck stuff a couple weeks ago, they'll definitely get an episode eventually. I've also got Part III of Branikald coming up and I'm probably going to do something with Nitberg pretty soon as well.
Yup, I was listening to Purity a lot last week. I also love Obey and of course Strike. Still need to listen to The List more. Rites of Thy Degringolade is sick too, at least on the first three albums.
I would do unspeakable things to have a reissue of Sacramentary Abolishment’s albums on LP and CD. Finding copies of their albums is like finding hen’s teeth or rocking horse manure.
I managed to get the original River of Corticone CD for like $20 on discogs back in the day. I almost kind of feel bad, maybe they didn't know what they had when they were selling it.
Thanks for this episode, so glad to see people rediscovering Sacramentary Abolishment. By the way: besides Rites of Thy Degringolade, Paulus Kressman went on to play in numerous other bands. Haven't checked out all of them yet, but I can say Ouroboros sure does sound a lot like late Sacramentary/early Axis material - i.e. bestial war metal with some sense of grand, epic melody to it.
This one certainly threw me for a loop. Sacramentary Abolishment is probably one of the best examples of what I think should be the “true” spirit of war metal. The only thing which tied all of those early war metal bands together, other than the sheer abrasion of the music itself, is that they all wanted to stray far away from any sort of label in favor of forming their own unique sound (ironic, isn’t it?). For me, where a band like Revenge falters, Sacramentary Abolishment excels! What other war metal band that you can think of can be described as having “lots of peaks and valleys” in their songs? I’m definitely looking forward to an Axis of Advance episode. I think Strike kind of a synthesis of the two styles we see on each SA album, and the resulting sound just sort of evolves and mutates with each subsequent release. On a side note, you’ve also convinced me to give more time into the early Kataklysm material. Great work as always!
For the peaks and valleys thing, I'd say Order from Chaos definitely fits the bill, also Beherit if they count as war metal. All the Kataklysm albums with Sylvain Houde on vocals are pretty essential. I like some of the later stuff as well although really more as just kind of dumb but fun gym music.
One band that’s tied into this band and Rites of Thy Degringolade as well as Gloria Diaboli is AMSG. One of the most insane bands to come out of Canada just in how weird they can get. Definitely worth checking out.
Hm, pals of mine say similar. But how much I love SA, AOA, ROTD, Ouroboros, Lust - AMSG does nothing for me at best, but mostly plain annoys my lazy anti-establishment ass.
Yo thank you for doing this shit. You are hands down my favorite youtube channel at the moment. I have binged so many of your videos. So many good recommendations. I have one question though! What does that dude say in that clip you use as a meme, something like: “oh yea baby got the big ass cigar hell to the yea?” Who is this guy??? I need answers!!!
haha that guy's smokingessy7887 on youtube, he does a lot of goofy videos about all sorts of stuff, he's been around for YEARS but he's pretty underrecognized in the pantheon of youtube weirdos
I remember checking out axis of advance and sacramentary abolishment when I got into blasphemy, conqueror and revenge, axis didn't do much for me but sacramentary was actually pretty good even if it wasn't exactly what I was looking for at the time. I don't think either of them are war metal or blackened death metal, they are something else completely.
I actually did, way back in 2020, episode 137. Definitely one of my favorite bands. Video there is Space Ghost Coast to Coast audio over YuGiOh footage.
There's definitely a lot of Striborg albums I like, especially Embittered Darkness, Nefaria, and Ghostwoodlands. He's got so much stuff though so I haven't heard a lot of it. I haven't even really delved into his newer ambient stuff at all but I probably will some day.
@@radiofreeinnsmouth1337 Cool that’s good to know Yeah I’d suggest it he’s definitely one of the most interesting people/producers in his own right in black metal the whole “blackwave” shit is 90% shit But the other 10% in that style he’s does something super unique and interesting as he’s just so capable but rarely does Like introverted transparency for example is a real hit and unique and interesting form of black metal but I’d suggest giving him a thorough look over at some point Like purifying the river of tears some of the last true to his style black metal he released and “ The epitome of misanthropy” has just this blistering fast blast that takes up more then half the song really some mind blowing shit Deserves an episode one day just sayin True fucking whack job
Maybe some day, I figured they were a little too big compared to what I usually cover but I've done like Immolation and Deicide so why not? I'm not huge on their later stuff, but it's pretty respectable, and of course their '90s stuff is all MANDATORY death metal. My favorite's Diabolical Conquest and I swear it's not just because I'm a Daniel Corchado fanboy.
@@radiofreeinnsmouth1337 Oh definitely! I absolutely love all the early stuff especially Onward to Golgotha and Mortal Throne. I even like a lot of newer bands that are considered “Incantation worship” like Father Befouled and stuff like that. I actually met John after a festival they played back in November. Real cool dude
Your opinion is unbased. The quality of the actual recording could be better, true. Otherwise their two albums' material is top stuff. Glad they dissolved, because there would not have been Rites and Axis, both stellar acts.
This album is otherwise amazing, but the last song ruins the experience for me a bit. The vocals are so comical that it's impossible to take it seriously. It's almost like Donald Duck trying to do Black metal vocals
Sacramentary Abolishment: check, old Kataklysm mentioned: check, MA nerd-bashing: check, well done!

Yeah crazy
Between the constant use of that Jdawg clip, and that M-A review reading, this was the funniest episode in a while.
9:12 funniest Q and A from an interview ever.
Rites Of Thy Degringolade episode upvote!

Man this channel deserves more subs
YES, I WILL WATCH THIS ONCE DAILY FOR A WHILE. THANKS JIUB!
Great episode, great band. Yes, an Axis of Advance episode would be cool too!
The Jdawg soundbite got me rollin...
Never listened to SA, awesome stuff, thanks!
I just found your channel and let me say man, you're fucking great. Keep on making badass episodes and I'll keep on tuning in :D

Good stuff as always. Would love to see a Sammath episode and some more BBH stuff

So, we can hope for an Axis of Advance episode in the future? (say yes).
Of course! Axis of Advance is essential stuff.
@@radiofreeinnsmouth1337Hell yeah. The Purity ep is some of my favourite music across the entire genre.

Check out Ouroboros - Spear of Destiny, if haven’t already, Paulus’ previous band before SA and RoTD
I think I remember liking the Invoking the Worm demo when I came across it, will have to check their other stuff out.

HELL YEAHHHH, I’ve been waiting for you do SA or axis forever
That MA review is one of the most amazing pieces of comedy ever posted there. Even Bitterman wasn't that hilarious, and that's saying something.
Lmfao ‘the Graveland bounce’ 🤔🫠🤣 this is why I love this channel

Never heard this band, thanks for the introduction. Being a war metal elitist on MA must be a tough life.
I mean whoever that guy was, he stopped writing reviews in 2008 so maybe he burnt out on the lifestyle.
I'd like to see a comeback of the extreme metal elitism.
It's definitely exciting when you come across it.

Would you ever do a video about order from Chaos’s ?
Probably some day, I do like them a lot.

Sacramentary Abolishment is interesting shit, thanks!

Yeah, I noticed that you did and edited my comment. Watched that one as well.
Warmarch is worth checking out too! Batshit record
Thoughts on osculum infame - dor nu fauglith?
I remember digging it the last time I listened to it but it's been years.
Hey RFI, do you have a email adress for submitting review material?
Holy shit! Are you into Ñu? Wasn't expecting that clip at the end at all
Yeah they're sick, I love a lot of prog stuff like that

Cool that’s good to know
Yeah I’d suggest it he’s definitely one of the most interesting people/producers in his own right in black metal
the whole “blackwave” shit is 90% shit
But the other 10% in that style he’s does something super unique and interesting as he’s just so capable but rarely does
Like introverted transparency for example is a real hit and unique and interesting form of black metal
but I’d suggest giving him a thorough look over at some point
Like purifying the river of tears some of the last true to his style black metal he released and “ The epitome of misanthropy” has just this blistering fast blast that takes up more then half the song really some mind blowing shit
Deserves an episode one day just sayin
True fucking whack job

more kult than quality imo

I'd say at least give River of Corticone another chance because that one took me a while to get into when I first heard it way back when.
Cool stuff. Their take on funeral doom sounds so unique and unexpected. Will totally check out.
You fuck with Triumvir Foul?
