Bagnall No 401 Vulcan 0 6 0 ST at the North Norfolk Railway 2023

Bagnall No 401 Vulcan 0-6-0 ST built 1951 for the Steel Co of Wales Ltd at the North Norfolk Railway Gala 15th April 2023. On loan from the North Tyneside Steam Railway. It looks splendid in its original 1951 livery. and sounds good too.
This was Bagnall’s new post-war heavy shunter and it had a very high specification for an industrial tank engine with piston valves operated by Walschaerts gear, fully balanced reversing gear, roller bearings on all axles and motion, rocking grate, hopper ashpan, and many low maintenance features. Only three such locos were built because it was expensive and more reliable, low maintenance diesel shunters became available.
