Thank you for everything that you do, especially helping with scholarships and applications. Our daughter is at Bergenfield HS, Bergenfield NJ Class of 2022.
What about choosing to leave the job to have more time to take more credit hours? I'm looking to finish school ASAP and know I could get it done before next year ends, but I need the time to allow me to study etc.
Hi thanks, you’re the only person I’ve found that breaks this down clearly. I do have a tricky question however. I recently left a high paying job and have a lower paying job (income drop). If I apply for financial aid with my current low paying job, will the office still consider my previous (higher) income when making a decision?
What if you got accepted into a program that does not want you to work. For example, if you made over 100k the previous year and got the EFC based on that but you will NOT be able to work once the course starts. What do you do then??
I know it wouldn't work against me but would it help lower my EFC? Also, i appreciate your videos but you tend to focus on parents and children. Can you also give more info on independent adults that work? I still benefit from your videos but some things aren't clear for people like me. Thanks for your wonderful vids!
Ed, if you are let go in January and have a small severance package that covers 3 months of income. Do the colleges assume only those 3 months of income or do they assume you will be able to get some work in that calendar year?
Hi Maria, Any severance you get will be counted as income. The college does not assume if you will have a job or not. You would need to inform them of the job change.
If we currently have money set aside for a home improvement (septic) that will happen in the next few months, does that need to be declared in the financial aid process?

You would have to apply for aid with the 2020 taxes then you could look to appeal because of the income drop.

If you can't work because of college that is fine would not be used against you. Thank you for helping the scholarship fund.

What about retirement from active duty after 30+ years?
That will not count against you
