STORE TOUR: Kmart, Des Plaines, IL (STORE CLOSING APRIL 2020)

  • A look inside the last Kmart in the state of Illinois as it commences its closing sales. This store was extensively remodeled back in 2016 making it one of the few somewhat modern Kmart's that ever existed. This will most likely be my last Kmart Store Tour as there simply are none left to film. Right now the nearest, non-closing Kmart, is in Marshall Michigan which is about a three-hour drive from Des Plaines.
    =============================================================
COVID 19 and the channel: I don't plan to make any filming trips while a global pandemic goes on but I still have plenty of previously recorded content to share and post over the next few months. I'm still working and doing stuff for school so expect my upload schedule to remain as inconsistanant as always...

I remember when I was younger running up and down the toy isles chasing my brother while my parents shopped. I also remember during the holidays, this Kmart set up inflatable Christmas decorations. Fun times!

Suposedly the reason for mass closures after bankruptcy is that they are having vendor issues. I read on the Layoff Site. The 100+ stores that remain are becoming barren. Sears is open for tools and appliances and the remaining Kmarts are open as usual since they are considered essential stores though employees complain products are not being replenished.

The largest discount general merchandise stores was from Walmart, Target & Kmart, to Walmart, Target & Meijer
And Meijer is only in the Midwest
If somebody from California or New York or Florida asks me what is Meijer, I would immediately tell him/her to go to school and get a job
I wish Meijer was in the entire US like I always thought until now

Maybe it's a outdated, 😠and people just still don't trust about kmart cheap prices, especially Sears, that's what happens to Shopko. 😥And we're going to Kmart forever in Illinois, farewell Kmart.

7:20 Nice to know a 236% *increase* in profits is "dying"
    money.cnn.com/1998/05/13/companies/kmart/
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Riding the wave of consumer confidence that has shoppers lining up at the cash register, Kmart Corp. on Wednesday posted first-quarter net income of $47 million, a 236 percent increase over last year.
The Troy, Mich.-based retailer reported diluted earnings of 10 cents per share fot the quarter ended April 29, compared with 3 cents in the year-ago quarter. Those earnings beat Wall Street estimates by a penny, according to First Call.
At the same time, revenues for the company reached $7.5 billion, compared with $7.3 billion last year.
"With our eighth consecutive quarter of increased earnings per share, we continue to feel good about the turnaround momentum at Kmart," said Floyd Hall, Kmart's chairman, president and chief executive.
Hall cited "strong increases in our apparel and consumables area, together with improvement in interest expense," along with reduced inventory and improved interest expense.
Kmart, which operates more than 2,000 retail outlets nationwide, is among many retailers recently churning out strong earnings.
Analysts attribute the industry's health to the surging economy and the heightened consumer confidence that is putting shoppers in a spending mood.
"I would characterize the current times as the best of times for retail companies," BT Alex Brown retail analyst Patrick McCormack, told CNNfn's "Business Day" program Wednesday. "Retailers are benefiting from the strong consumer economy and benefiting from managing their businesses more intelligently."
The industry, he said, is taking steps to tighten cost and capital controls, adding that Kmart and department store heavy-hitter Federated Department Stores are both poised for continued growth.
Federated Department Stores Wednesday also released first-quarter earnings, reporting net income of $60 million, up 150 percent from the year-ago quarter.
Kmart's stock (KM) was up 7/16 at 18-9/16 while Federated (FD) was off 3/8 at 52-9/16 in Wednesday afternoon on the New York Stock Exchange. Back to top
