Glad to see anothe certified Shuuji hater and Agumon enjoyer. I do honestly like this game, but it feels like it could something even better with sequel to iterate on a lot of the design and little blemishes that add up over time, especially over a second playthrough. I wish recruited digimon had more to do outside of battle since digivolution lines are fairly limited in scope, like maybe a farm to gather items to scout out new battle areas or something. I really hope we can see some kind of follow up to this or another Digimon Story game sooner rather than later.
I just wanna say damn I just discovered your channel and your videos are insanely high quality wow I am super impressed. Thank you for giving me a tour down memory lane before I was in my 30s and a corporate drone. That being said, I am rather disappointed in Digimon Survive. It's a shame because Visual Novels, Monsters, and Strategy games are like my 3 favorite things. I was so hyped for this game and love so many other Digimon games in the franchise, but the combat elements were extremely simple and painfully slow, without there feeling like there is much strategy to it. The story was good when it was good, but the exploration phase felt like a slog where all of the characters kind of repeated the same dialogue overt and over and they spent all their time talking about going to the next location and how worried they are. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed it though!
I obviously want to get Tyrannomon but holy hell Tuskmon is a badass option too! I wasn't sure this was going to be mostly a VN game until it was actually out but considering I have so many damn jrpgs including Cyber Sleuth and it's prequel, I'm totally down getting this one soon as possible. 2:18 In fact, they could. I know this because I modded the text of the game myself. Some parts of the interface and font size even adjust themselves to the amount of text. Some people that worked at the localization were engaging in some of the discussions on the steam forum for the game and, if memory serves right, higher ups didn't care they were abbreviating random shit in the interface, so they kept doing it.
@@CRANTIME Pretty much. Which is weird cause they went out of their way to give a "Hello, fellow kids" vibe to the translation just to give up on the menus. Some lines just don't match to what the characters are saying at all. And they made Ryo sound like a jerk even when he's not being one. This is the first "proper" translation since the DS games and I'm still having to guide myself by the japanese audio sometimes :v

Yeah, same. It felt like a few of them were scripted dude to them going despite me working specifically to save them and then by the end, I had less than half my kids and it's like "Oh, I guess I just suck at this lmao"
... Bro Survive REALLY trolled me with the adverts. I swear it advertises itself as an rpg action pack grinder, and here we get some visual novel? ... I mean are the models 3d at least? I can't tell...
The combat looks fun, but I think the visual novel stuff is gonna keep this as the one digimon game I'll skip. That DinoRexMon looked awesome. Though, ngl.
I just can't get into Visual Novel games... Maybe I've been soured by the millions of cheap, asset flipped Renpy games that get thrown onto Steam everyday but for a fairly major studio or franchise to produce a VN these days just feels like them saying, "We don't actually care, so this is all you get"
While they're far from my favourite genre, visual novels are just as valid a game as any other. And considering they hadn't made one already and how much they love to experiment with Digimon games, this was inevitable
@@CRANTIME Yeah I fully admit it's a me problem, I'm also not a big fan of Manga even though I enjoy both Light Novels and Anime. There's just something about those 2 products being in the "middle ground" between being a novel and a game/show, I'd personally rather read a novel that has far more detail or play/watch something that has far less detail but more going on visually from moment to moment.

Yeah, I agree. There was only a small handful of battles that required you to use them so they felt pretty underutilized outside of filling your dex
