I attended LIV JCB this weekend and was honestly blown away by the event! It was my first going to a golf event and was worried if I would enjoy it! Safe to say it exceeded my expectations and I’m already excited for next year! Would anyone like to see an option for camping on the course or in the fields near by which would allow more people to let there hair down? Food for thought

I know you probably quit because you were trying to not disrupt the video and give Rick and James the spotlight to perform instead but you're one of the reasons I tune into these videos, don't underestimate how important you are to these vids. We love you, you have great vibes and you have to know that. I don't care if you quit because just having you in the vids bantering is great

About Guy not scoring, that out of bounds going back to re-tee rule needs to be abolished. No normal golfers has time to do that when your local club puts starts every 5 mins on the first tee.
Look for you ball, not there, drop and hit your 3rd shot roughly where you lost it and move on.

I still think the 2 shot penalty is necessary for a lost ball because it emphasizes the difference between that and loosing your ball in a hazard that’s marked red or yellow

I volunteered for the LIV by JCB event and was marshalling the 3rd Green and player transitions from 3rd green / 4th tee and 1st green to 2nd tee all 3 days. Must say that when the marquee groups had passed through, particularly on Saturday and Sunday, the crowds dispersed and it became a great place for those who wanted to watch great golf. Nearest bar was on the 9th and music was hardly noticeable. Also a number of players interacted with the crowd because they were not getting mobbed.

The problem with Guy not scoring his round is HE is always saying “what would an average Joe score at these very difficult golf courses?” They’ve done bits about that; they’ve posted clips of podcasts addressing that.
That’s your role in the videos Guy. You’re the everyman golfer (granted you are probably above average) but we want to see your honest score. How do you score at a course like Troon with hard conditions? We can answer that question about the everyman golfer through watching your play

If people are too focused on their score the game can get really boring. So many people hit irons off the tee on long holes because they aren't hitting driver well. Or they putt from 5 yards off the green because their chipping stinks. If someone disregards their score, then they might feel they can work on hitting proper shots.

I was at LIV on Saturday, my first golf event. Went with my wife, in our 30s. We had a great day out. Like a festival with golf. Guy is spot on, as the day went on you could see the effects of the alcohol consumption start to kick in. Didn't ruin it for us but I could see how families would be a bit worried. All in all though we loved it. Well organised as well. Tickets were cheap too.

Went on Saturday, and it was superb. I wasn't a fan of LIV at all, in fact I was totally against it for a year or so, but watched a few events this year and enjoyed them.
Got to say, the fan experience at LIV UK was fantastic. Top class golfers, music was surprisingly a good addition and that party hole was different class.
It's something different and there's a place for it in professional golf in my opinion. I love all golf and enjoy watching all golf. Why do we have to be on one side? We don’t.

I went to all 3 days at LIV Houston in June, & traveled from Minnesota to do it. It was a fun event, & a very fan friendly event. Tickets were $150 US to walk the course all three days. You know who you are going to see, & the venue, The Golf Club, which used to host the Shell Houston Open, was fantastic. It was also extremely hot. 95*F/35*C, & very humid. They did a great job of setting up a cooling station or two, plus they did hand out cold bottled water a few times later in the day as well. The event staff were user friendly, that helped. Got a decent finish with Carlos Ortiz winning in the end. It was good enough to want to attend another LIV in 2025...

The biggest problem with turning events like this into 'stag dos' (your expression) is that once they have a reputation as such with all the 'laddish' behaviour and excessive booze related incidents.. which will increase as time goes by.... then getting rid of such a reputation is almost impossible to the extent that only the 'rowdies' will turn up. Its very short sighted to deliberately encourage such behaviour in any sport. Fan participation is essential to make watching more interesting overall but there is a big difference in my view.

I attended LIV Greenbrier all 3 days last summer so I have experienced LIV golf in person and have attended tons of PGA Tour events also. Don't you think the fact that it's so condensed in about a 6 hour period helps keep people from getting as crazy? A PGA Tour event fans are out there many more hours which seems more likely to be a problem with drinking too much. Just my opinion

it's good to sit in one spot and see every golfer, however jcb is too good to not have a wonder around. I went on the Saturday and me and my friend started following Casey, brooks & G-Mac and after a few holes we followed another group around. We sat on the 17th for a while but however sometimes it's nice to see golfers hit driver or 3 wood off the tee instead of just an iron on the par 3's. Overall it was an awesome day especially when you're used to seeing golf on T.V to then witnessing it live. The ball striking is incredibly satisfying to watch being that close up.

Right ! Here goes - I was 100% against LIV golf…not because of the concept but because of where the money comes from and the way the owners conduct their lives is not something I wanted to put next to our great game…but the bottom line is, I am a HUGE golf fan so I gave the JCB a go.
I went for all 3 days at 10am till 7pm each night and I have been to a lot of golf events. I went 2 days with my 16 year old and then on the Sunday with my other boy and my wife and I have to put my hand on my heart and say I totally enjoyed the experience.
    Plus Points:
    - Loved the music!!! Never thought I would….but it was great, loved the background music on the holes and party hole was great!
    - Loved the American commentator, made me feel like I was experiencing something on holiday at Disney or something ! Haha!
    - The shotgun start! - with my family it was great to do a a good 4.5hr quality golf round and enjoy the other things.

    - The team element was great fun actually !!! Never thought it would be of interest, but it was.
    - We all got close to the players, once the huge Bryson crowd had gone, we felt like it was very intimate and players would say hi and talk
    - My boys got loads of selfies and autographs from Bryson, Bubba, Westwood and many more - all of them happy and chatty which was so different from other tournaments.
    Bad Points
    - The drinking was totally out of control with certain groups. One guy I spoke to while in a food queue said they had 15 beers and only 2hrs in! He struggled to stand. Ok, I too love a beer but it ended up with him telling the server in food van to F off and got gobby, I walked way.
    - Again the drink - on the way to the car park people were climbing the poles and ripping the flags down and snapping the flag poles, smashing the signage for the LIV teams and their friends all cheering.
    - One guy walking around the crowd with his pants down and urinating all over his shorts exposing himself to families with small children and his friends all cheering. Was disgusting and to be honest he should have been done for exposing himself to kids as he was laughing etc…..the police should have stepped in as was near the exit.
    - Adults should be allowed who walk the course be limited to 3 alcoholic drinks only on an app QR code.
    - Food was very expensive and not allowing food to be brought in as totally disgusting. A lot of people were asking at food stations if they can guarantee nut free kitchen as their food for the guys wife was confiscated on the way in - and they couldn’t. He was really annoyed and said he was doing 3 days and couldn’t risk her.

    - A guy had special selected food and drink and a medical note as he cant eat a lot of solids and they wanted to take it off him, 3 staff came and told him no he can’t bring it in, he said he cant eat food at the vendors and they still refused - he walked out really upset.
    - My main issue other than the drink was the lack of 4G and 5G signal. Even when we was early we had nothing !!! I was on o2 but also EE and Vodaphone was terrible. A few American fans who have done a few LIV events I heard the same its first event they could not follow leader board and maps on the LIV app. If JCB want to expand they need to get the phone companies to either expand here or offer FREE high usage wifi on the whole course. It was terrible for food vendors for apple pay, use of LIV app, and contacting people on the course.
But I will go again ! And was great to meet Guy !

I went this past weekend, absolutely loved it, perfect mix of golf and entertainment off the course, there was a few groups that were just there to drink, I’ll go next year and expect it to be rowdier, 2 years time I just have the feeling the crowd will be more of people like you say the go to the races, it will be a day on the drink with a bit of golf along the way, as the event snowballs and becomes more popular, a really hard one for LIV to find the happy medium

I think alot of people would love to see a more chill 18 from you guys and James with beers flowing and you guys just bantering and not keeping score. But when you are trying to achieve something. Break 80,75,70 and you give up halfway through because u arent having a good golfing day that is what the guy was talking about. I think he is saying we dont want to teach the kids that "if its not going your way just quit" i think he wants you to persevere and try to shoot the best score u can and dont give up.

It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for a lot of people to play some of the courses you have a great privilege of playing. I would be framing that card even if the scores are rubbish because I can look back and laugh at the numbers and have a joke with friends about how and why I scored a 10 on that hole of something.

For most of us we can just barely afford to play golf. Green fees are going up all the time. Two of my "home" courses just went semi-private and now cost just under $15,000.00 a year for a membership. Equipment keeps going up so we play with older equipment. You guys get everything served up on a silver platter. Free equipment, no green fees and I'm sure there are many other little "perks" that sweeten the deal even more. Good for you! Please do not loss the feel for our position in the game we love.

Guy, I agree that sometimes taking an NR and just having fun is the best course of action.
I played last week and couldn't hit a ball on the first 2 holes. Decided it was an NR round and it was so much more fun. I practiced a lot of shots I wouldn't hit going for a score. I hit a lot of memorable recovery shots since I was so out of position. I had my first successful driver off the deck (because I hit the tee shot 30 yards and just walked to it with a driver still in my hand). I even came around a bit later in the round and had back to back eagle putts from a par 5 and a short par 4. I ended with 3 birdies when I'm normally alternating par/bogey and AB occasional double to come in with a +15 or so.
Bottom line, switching to NR turned a terrible round into something fun and memorable.

If you took your kids to a football match, darts, rugby, baseball, nfl, regardless of what it is. Therell be loud people drinking! Tyrell Hatton is great value. I enjoy watching him putting with a wedge for half a round because he's snapped his putter etc. I'm all for dealing with severe frustration immediately rather than internalising & having it fester like a cancer. This resulted in snowball effect where I lost 6 balls, highest ever and didnt enjoy myself at all. If I gave up on the score after like 5 holes I would have enjoyed myself more and would play even better and more importantly I wouldnt be such a downer. Never again will I let myself be in that position and I decided now if that happens again either to accept the fact its my bad day and play conservatively with adjusted expectations or dont keep the score at all.

Went to liv saturday with my partner a non golfer but she loves watching sport. Had a great day walked 12miles must of walked the course twice. Had 1 pint each on 14 just yo feel the atmosphere there. Sat on 17 for a hour or so, followed Bryson from his start on 13 to 18. Then moved around to try to see most everyone else. Food and Beer are expensive but really enjoyed the day and will definitely go again. I'm with you Rick on the teams I just feel no connection to any team . Saw a great Eagle from Sergio on 12 though which kinda made the day.

I went to LIV at JCB it was a good day out as you say it is a lot more relaxed, casual and fun than a normal tournament. The shotgun start worked with staying in one place and seeing everybody my only negative was from a golf perspective I didn’t feel there was any real jeopardy for the players, there is no cut to make or qualification, and they seemed quite relaxed.people didn’t seem bothered about the leaderboard

I think Guy completely misses the point here. He could have easily said 'I don't care about the score' I'm just going to enjoy it. Whereas the NR is a cop out. Also it's an open course and as they said, others have played it and shot higher (F0urBr0thers), if he shot 90 it would have reflected how tough the course is. Rick had a great day and Robbo is a former tour pro, Guy ripping up his score card just wasn't acceptable IMO.

About Guy not scoring - I took it from what he said on the video that he had stopped playing and would maybe do 1 or 2 holes if he felt like it. From what you have explained here is that he played all the remaining holes but without scoring, and that didn't come across on the Troon video. I need to go back and watch it again. Maybe thats what the chap who emailed in is referring to?

I went to LIV JCB have to say I had some big pros and cons,
Pros -- course is fantastic playing wise, atmosphere is great and very different to the open, party hole is a great addition although not my cup of tea.
Cons -- Course is awful for spectating, they had barely any grandstands up on tees and greens which is a mistake they make the holes much more viewable and bring in more atmosphere, shotgun start is awful when your there live in my opinion, the gap between groups is way to long and you just stand there waiting for ages with no golf to watch, love the shotgun start for viewing on stream though! Not allowing food and drink to be brought in is a joke, your always allowed at the open and to add to that they then think its ok to charge £3.50 for a can of 7up!! Merch shop was too small and queing just to get in, I would never que to get into a shop!
I am happy I have been to a LIV event now but I wouldnt bother with another one and will just stick to the Open now.

The course isn’t a great spectator experience as the layout is very uphill then down. The holes don’t really run alongside one another. They certainly would struggle to hold anything any bigger as the course is not right for anything bigger.

The thing I enjoy about LIV compared to PGA/DP events is the viewing options, especially with the app. It’s great to be able to watch uninterrupted golf for four to five hours without having to watch commercials every ten minutes. The music was off-putting to me at first, but I’ve gotten used to it after watching this season.

Had a horror show last Fri on a tough course here in Japan and, as a 5.5HC, was tracking for 100+ after 12. Potentially my worst score in 10years (end up worst in 3 years)! Managed to finish with a 6 hole par streak which ended up being a huge psychological win (still shot 94 but achieved the mid round goal of making it respectable and finding my game). Some big lesson learned.
Regarding Guy's score and NR's in general, what is difficult to understand is that he played the rest of the round so a certain number of shots still happened regardless ie. he hit the ball X number of times in reality but chose to not write it down and/or acknowledge it which is where, perhaps, damaged ego comes in. There's no way someone continues playing and isn't still consciously thinking of their score on each hole after claiming to stop formally counting. Just log it and move on and focus on the "enjoyment" factor thereafter.
Golf isn't really worth playing if there is no score. Even if you mess around, you're still trying to hit a target in as few shots as possible. My point being Golf = scoring. Score means you set a goal, decide a strategy and that then requires you to hit certain shots meaning jeopardy - which is why most of us play and love it. So yeah, not life and death but a bit of a cop out imo.

Hey guys. I've been a regular listener of the podcast for more than a year now and love the content.
To address Guy's point, I'm sorry but if you don't card a final score, YOU DID QUIT the game. It doesn't matter that you weren't a d**k for the remainder of the game, that you were still cheery and didn't spoil the experience for your playing partners (which is the behavior expected of decent golfers, anyway), if you don't have a final score - YOU DID QUIT the game.
And I think it just boils down to acceptance. If Guy shot 100 or more that day then in the back of his mind, he'd be a single handicapper who can still shoot 100+. So what?!?!?! That's golf, man! It just makes all those times you shoot near your handicap that much more fulfilling.
Just my 2 cents worth. Keep up the great work with the podcast!

Nothing compares to going to the Open, but the LIV event is more family friendly engaging event that I can see how it would work. On the negative side, apart from the hospitality (I was in the birdie shack) viewing areas were not great, and the route around the course was not great. Finally, it seemed that there was no real competitive nature in the golf itself. The also rans, did not really care about their performance

If the series is called Break 70 Break 75 Break 80 then outside of something extraordinary happening, finish the round and suck it up.
You are on camera, part of a crew and part of 'Ricks' brand family. If you want to show less of yourself when you play bad so be it, do a quicker montage during editing.
Finish the round and you can still say you finished Troon or wherever with a scorecard as a momento and not 'sully' the privilege you have to play on these great courses.
Outside of this, i enjoy your insights and time on camera.

I think the shotgun start live is not leaving enough time on the Golf course to see everybody. You can sit there and see everybody hit one shot. If you want to follow a group you're most likely going to miss half the field. At a regular Golf event, you can sit on the first hole and do the same thing. And get 10 hours of golf instead of 4 and a 1/2. But if you like to follow a group or walk the golf course, you will miss a lot of the golf shots live, and by the time you have walked the course, there's only two hours leBut if you like to follow a group or walk the golf course, you will miss a lot of the golf shots live, and by the time you have walked the course, there's only 2 hours left. Estimate, there is also still slow play issues, as i found out at the Orlando event last year. I think they should double the field and do a morning and afternoon shotgun wave if you want to keep the shotgun start and the teams should be run like F1 somehow.

Enjoyed my first LIV experience and the fan village and party hole are different. Personally, I just don't see the need for speakers and music on every hole from tee to green, just not sure what that adds. On 1/2 holes and in the fan village it worked perfectly. I would certainly go again, at least to LIV JCB with it only being a 25-30 minute drive from home. *Edit* Fair play for raising the issue of not being allowed to take food/drink into the event.

I think Liv needs an end of year table a bit like the F1, which means they could introduce some team based weekends where it’s 4 balls etc to earn additional team points, having any type of team games like the Ryder cup would generate a bit more of a liking to a team, as it is teams on LIV doesn’t really matter. Make it matter and people will buy in
