🚨NOTE: This isn't a trip report, it's not a travel vlog. If you need someone to tell you what it's like to travel on a train, then by all means search for another video. I'm a train enthusiast, not a vlogger. If you want information about onboard amenities feel free to ask me, but for more detailed descriptions visit journeybeyondr...
See what travelling aboard one of Australia's greatest train's, The Indian Pacific, is like. You will see onboard footage of the seating cabin, lounge car and the Queen Adelaide restaurant carriage.
You will also see plenty of footage of the country you pass through on the journey to Sydney. This includes Snowtown, Peterborough and Broken Hill, as well as Sydney suburbs Penrith and Parramatta.
The trip takes just over one full day, departing Adelaide Parklands Terminal at 10am on Wednesday and arriving at Central at 11:30am on Thursday.
It was a fantastic trip and I can highly recommend it if you are thinking about it. I hope you enjoy this video :)

Great video. Loved seeing the yards at Dry Creek.
I spent the nights of my childhood being lulled to sleep by the shunting of the goods trains in the yards there. My brother's best friend lost a couple of fingers one night down there hooking up the couplings.
Thanks Alex. I feel inspired to go have a look at this scenery in the train myself, after the covid dries up and sets us free to move around again.

Would have been fantastic at it's peak, looks a bit sad and sorry now. The AFT at Islington has all the action now, and the park behind Kilburn station has great views of the yard.

@@AlexsTrainChannel I am an oldie. They were still using steam as I grew up and I spent a lot of time on trains as my Dad worked for the railways. I used to love hanging my head out the window of the train and getting black smuts all over me. Back in the day when you could open a window !!!

At the 36 minute mark, the curves out off Broken Hill. Are design like that, because, the track is dead straight for about 20 km, or 30km. So they put those curves in, just in case a train is out off control. So if a run away train approaches, those curves at speed, the train will derail before coming, into Broken Hill. There are curves about 5km out off Broken Hill, on the south Australian side as will. As the ground is flat there's no need to have those curves their. So as I said they are there for emergency's, only. If I'm wrong please tell us all why those curves are there, OK thanks. Yes there are hills in the background, but not enough for the curves too be that Sharp. Or made into S bends.

Hello Alex, I have read many reviews on Trip Advisor and there are so many complaints about the train journey being very very rough. What is your opinion? Thanks

    • @AlexsTrainChannel
      @AlexsTrainChannel  Год назад +1

Hello! There is a long answer and a short answer to this question. Short answer: yes. The track is 'rough'. One thing I remember is that I went to have a coffee in the lounge car and a lot of it ended up in the saucer. Keep in mind that was just one time.
Long answer: yes. But does it affect the experience? No. It didn't make it dangerous to move around the train, nor did it affect the comfort. It's a 5 stat hotel on tracks, the seating car is comfy as is your bed when you sleep. I personally found it difficult to sleep on the train due to the movement. But I have found it difficult to sleep on other trains on supposedly 'better' tracks so that's not a fault with the indian pacific.
The other thing that the general public may not realise is that the train runs over tracks used 99% for freight movement, and it is built as such. It is not built for a smooth ride.

Food and drinks are free onboard, at a minimum the fare is inclusive of three meals a day + tea & coffee in between available in the lounge cars. Some of the off train activities also have food and drink available for free as part of the trip.

Did the Adelaide to Sydney "gold class", never again; got no sleep as other passengers did not.
Broken Hill to Outer Sydney the train travels on 19 century rail lines and the train hits every bump. Excellent train staff who were very hospitable and professional, the food served was haute cusine at its best.

I'll admit, I did find it difficult to sleep as well. I found the bed very comfortable but the movement of the train did make it hard.

Yes best way to describe the cuisine. Since the fed grubberment gutted subsidies to GSR, thus removing the economy class etc it became a predominantly 'high roller' train.

Might I suggest you do some research through google, or read the video description, in which should be a link to the journey beyond rail website. Better be careful with your soundtrack. RUclips's algorithms will have mate a match with that song that was playing at about 1 minute in, and you could be hit with a copyright infringement notice, even though you did not intend for that song to be in your video.
