- In the most recent Young Sheldon series finale, Sheldon is seen by himself during George's funeral, standing beside his coffin. In the first part of its unique one-hour capper, the Cooper family deals with the immediate aftermath of losing their patriarch, which follows their greatest catastrophe. In the off-screen scene "A New Home and a Traditional Texas Torture," from Young Sheldon season 7, episode 12, George passed away. His colleagues informed Sheldon and the family that George had suffered a deadly heart attack. Emily Osment offers a couple promo stills from the highly anticipated hour of television ahead of the Young Sheldon season finale. Sheldon stands by George's coffin on his own at the beginning of the carousel of photographs. But there's also a glimpse of Georgie and Mandy tending to Baby Cece, and the McAllisters welcoming Mary, Meemaw, and the newlyweds at the wake in the collection of pictures.

For those who watched young Sheldon, like me, we know they had a good relationship. Who remembers the time when they help hands for the first time at dinner???
I am very sad about Young Sheldon TV show and cast members are leaving the TV show and cast members thank you for the awesome and amazing memories l will always cherish them for the rest of my life l wish I could meet you all in person God bless you all ❤❤❤😊😊😊😊My name is Sharon Curry from Decatur Illinois
I know they make it seem like they hated each other.
@@stephenduran7266 what? No
@stephenduran7266 In what way? They may have had their family squabbles, but they never hated each other... They had their squabbles, like families do, but they always had each other's back. They truly loved one another...
@@stephenduran7266 They didn’t hate each other. After they held hands for the first time that one night, they had a close relationship but didn’t really express it.
He sacrificed a lot as a father for his family.
George was a great Dad...He never understood what Sheldon's world was like...but he had Mary's back when the Church turned its back on Mary. .He took Missy to all her games & experiences Missy puberty. ..after driving all day to the Space center & threatened the whole place (Elon Musk stole the idea) to hear Sheldon .He took Missy to Red Lobster & stayed next to her...George Sr was a fine husband & dad..Rip George Sr..
Sheldon may not have been crying, but he DID shoe emotion....it was written all over his face.
Sheldon looked like he was in shock to me, which was probably the only way to play it for his character.
@biblehistoryscience3530 I agree, and shock is an emotion. Sheldon doesn't show emotion like most people, do, but that doesn't mean he didn't care.
@@biblehistoryscience3530I agree with you.
@@biblehistoryscience3530 Shock is the usual initial reaction to unexpected loss, tears come as you process what you've been told. For some people the tears come later maybe weeks after the funeral when something reminds them of the lost person. For me, it was picking up to phone to call my dad, only to remember that he was gone - about 3 months after his passing. If anything, Sheldon's reaction was more real in those first few minutes than the weeping women.
Fathers sacrifice a lot more than they’re given credit for.
Some
The character of George Cooper, so expertly played by Lance, always seemed to be in awe of Sheldons' intellect but also his goofy antics. Like when the FBI showed up because Sheldon tried to buy yellow cake uranium on the internet, and George and Mary tried to convince them he was harmless. He's just a little boy, and then a mini rocket streaks through the house. Priceless!!!!!!!
George was a great dad. So sad they way he went out. I'm going to miss watching this show so much😢
The fact Jim parsons didn’t narrate this part shows how sad Sheldon was
Yeah I noticed that too and I was like words don't need to describe the tragedy only that Jim parson doesn't narrate the ending is enough
He did show emotion he was devastated he could barely stand up that's why he sat down 😢he showed no emotion how dare you say that what a lie
Men in general show emotion differently.
@@sandraschenk4505And Sheldon is definitely someplace on the Autism Spectrum! That adds more difficulty to his grief. I am also on the Spectrum but not nearly as bad as Shelly.
Exactly. Shock and disbelief/ denial are the first 2 stages of Grief. I feel that TBBT Mary is ether still locked in the Anger stage or regresses to that stage when under pressure.
@@meganwilliams2962 I think Sheldon is also stuck in the anger phase, hence why he badmouths his Dad during TBBT but we see otherwise on YS. He wasn't perfect, but he was not as bad as Shelly and Mary made out. They're still angry at him for leaving them. Maybe writing his memoir will help Sheldon process his grief.
@@deegibb6368 100%
Dad didn't treat him like a fragike child like Mary.
It makes Sheldon and Mary suck.
fragile
I love sheldon
My heart is totally broken 😢
Sheldon was also raised in an environment where men don’t cry. I see shock on his face, not a lack of emotion.
George was a good guy
Everyone has short comings. I think he was a decent dad.
He was much better than A LOT of dads.
This brings me back when I loss my Dad and Mom hurt's
Sheldon and Mary deal w/ George's passing in a certain way. That's what creates such a difference between their casual comments about him, and what really happened. They talk about him in terms that diminish his importance in their lives. The reality is that they were shattered, and Georgie had to swoop in. BBT took Sheldon's wedding as an opportunity to "set the record straight", with Mary demanding that Georgie be in the wedding, which put some new facts out into the open. One year later, you see that when Sheldon is faced with a professional crisis, his father (via VCR) gets him back on his feet again. Sheldon and Mary say some things about their past, largely to diminish the pain, and keep people from asking questions. The reality is that they held George in very high esteem.
I was thinking the same thing. I always thought it was such a shame that George wasn't alive to see Sheldon get his Nobel prize. I think George would have been so proud of Sheldon.
There was no adultery scandal. George enjoyed talking with Brenda. That was all there was to it. There was no indication of it going any further. What about Mary talking with the youth pastor, Rob? Is that so wrong?
The "adultery scandal" involved Sheldon walking in on his parents in the middle of the day and believing George was cheating because Mary wore a German costume and blond wig. That's the origin of him always knocking 3 times...as he said, "to give everyone time to get their pants on".
That's NOT the "adultery scandal" they're talking about. It's the story from The Big Bang Theory. For those who don't know, it's canon there that he cheated on Mary for real and that Sheldon walked in on them being intimate. So every Big Bang fan was waiting to see what they would do with this story arc in Young Sheldon. As they didn't want to make him an unfaithful husband in Young Sheldon, they made up that in reality it was Mary in a costume and Sheldon didn't know.
But CANONICALLY he did really cheat in TBBT and also was an alcoholic and in general a pretty bad dad. Years later they decided to create Young Sheldon and they fortunately decided to change him and make him likable and a good dad with just flaws.
@@Romy--- TBH, he kinda did cheat, both he and Mary had emotional affairs with others when they were having problems. We can take his word that he didn't phyisically cheat with Brenda? Maybe. I am not convinced, same with Mary and Pastor Rob. He's always got a bottle of beer in his hand at home, so he very well could have been a functioning alcoholic.
@@Romy--- One thing to consider is that we have to look at Sheldon and Mary during TBBT through the perspective of unresolved grief stuck in the anger phase. They never processed the loss fully so were verbally lashing out at his memory by exaggerating his flaws to an extreme. The cannon isn't the flaw, it's easy to see in hindsight just how much they're still grieving.
There is a scene from the BBT in which Sheldon confesses to Penny that at 13, during college spring break, he returned home and opened his parents bedroom door and found his father with another woman. This is why Sheldon knocks 3 times before entering any room. Don't take my word for it, check it out.
I was sure hoping they wouldn't kill him off. He was a great Dad in the show and what a great actor!
The death of Sheldon's father was inevitable and written into the storyline of Sheldon's past starting from The Big Bang Theory. Young Sheldon was canceled so they decided to end his story with his father's death for some closure too.
I think the two co workers should have said. May we please come in? Then they should have asked if Georgie was around. That is not the kind of news you say outside where all the neighbors can see.
I think the shock of his death caused Sheldon to compartmentalize the memories of his father and only remembered the things he didn’t like and his mother likely feel back into religion as a cooping mechanism which made her view George in a different light and as Young Sheldon seems like it might be written by the older Sheldon maybe it’s his way of finally getting the closure he needs over his dads death.
That is if Young Sheldon is still a prequel to Big Bang Theory anyway
If I remember correctly, and that is a big if, in BBT when Raj’s father or mother dies, Sheldon tells him that at least he has friends when he loses a parent, because Sheldon didn’t when his dad passed. That might explain why young Sheldon is so quiet
That was Howard’s mother who had died.
@@stephenrose4582 thanks I knew it was somebody.
Congratulations to the cast where George died. Beautiful 💯💖
George and Mary made sure Sheldon had a relatively normal childhood which Sheldon realizes as he talks to Amy is the greatest gift they could have given him as a childhood is priceless especially to someone who can remember everything there’s happened to him ever
This is the best series finale ever.
I disagree, Sheldon was in shock and filled with horror.
Here's a theory; All of the narration in YS is Shelon writing his memoir. Now that he has come to his father's death he will have to relive and deal with it again. This time though he will have the love and support of Amy and will grow as a human.
The robot voice is rough.
I love how the robot voice claims Sheldon was emotionless.
@@lanetower3411 🤣🤣🤣
Narcissists such as Sheldon do not handle death well, especially one of a spouse or close relative. That person leaving is a loss of supply, and the person they controlled is no longer theirs to manipulate. Like most of their other feelings, their grief is self centered. “What am I going to do now??” They are the Ultimate Victims.
You don’t think Sheldon cared about his family at all?
@@lanetower3411 I didn’t say that. As he explained in the Nobel speech, “In his own way, he loves them all”.
He is not so much a narcissist as having Aspbergers. He is on the spectrum and can't understand emotions and so largely dismisses them.
that is not true!!! Neuro A typical people when dealing with a shocking situation usually shut down external expressions but internally we have the widest range of emotion possible, we just have no tools to show it. Jim Parson and Ian both played the part perfectly as a neuro A typical person would. Internally screaming externally stone face.
I agree. But the word is atypical.
Does Sheldon ever think of anyone other than himself?
No, because Mary coddled him and constantly stepped in and took up for him. He needed a good spanking.
I am thinking that since Sheldon is writing this as his Memoirs, he didn't include the affair as it is how he wants to remember his dad and not how things were precisely.
There was no affair in the TV series.
@jimwillingham8052 well aware. But as I said this is all his recollection of events, so he may be omitting it.
@@jameshartwell1429he saw Mary role-playing and thought of that as someone else, not Mary, this is probably the case in my opinion,I don't think there was an affair.
Since its a show and not real you will get over it !
Paramount didn't show the ending
Only when he wanted something was he good to his father . Otherwise he treated him with rudeness and disdain .
That was a large part because of Mary .
Yes Mary coddled Sheldon and babied him too darn much.
Sheldon is a brat even as an adult. I found the other family members stories more interesting.
I'm so glad that someone else recognized this. He wouldn't even hold hands with his father at dinner without wearing his mittens. And when George tried to talk to him when Sheldon was upset about something Sheldon didn't even listen.
@@sandraschenk4505 I agree,he is a brat, meemaw and Georgie are my favorites but I also enjoy the rest of the family.
Goodbye Young Sheldon
The writers can use Sheldon and Mary’s anger over George’s death as to why they talked about him like that in the Big Bang theory.
They hadn’t moved past the anger stage of grief.
Sheldon came to the realization on how selfish and childish in not telling George he was proud in being college football coach.
As an actor i think he part well as a peeson everyone grieves differently
Why is his lips puckered in every picture ??
He's portraying a high functioning autistic/ asperger syndrome
he does not have a texan accent in real life so he has to.
not a torture it is a Tradition get it right
❤
Robot voice: Sheldon showed no emotion. Bit ironic.
Did he really die
It's so hilarious what neurotypicals see as expressionless 😂. He looks devistated! Just because he isn't making a scene and being loud doesn't mean he's not sad!
This is like How I met your mother
I don't see how Young Sheldon is f-ing up the finale like HIMYM. That ending was so bad it invalidated the entire series. Sheldon DID show lots of emotion in his own way. The death hit him like a ton of bricks. He never figured out his mom role playing, so always was wrong about his dad's cheating. If this caps off the way it might, Amy is helping Sheldon with his past and traumas. This could be a great ending that nicely connects both shows (TBBT) with integrity.
Folks...it's a TV show. It's nothing to get all worked up about.
Yes you are so right
This is the worst thing they could have done who is this TV show
I bet Sheldon will be playing with his laptop during the funeral.
No he wont
Yeah no he won’t laptop’s weren’t even invented yet
That's When They Were In Church 😑🙏
@@TheIronDuke18159 yes they were there were laptops from the late 80s
@@gtapatrik96 ok but still Sheldon would still not go on his laptop at the funeral
Worst AI voice over ever
George did not have to die. What a mess. I will never again watch BBT
It was in the original BBT story, so it was inevitable for Young Sheldon. You obviously are not a big fan of BBT. It was an amazing show. All of us who love it will never stop watching. It was always said that George died during the entire run of BBT. I don't understand what your problem is with it.
Why did Sheldon on big bang show him married to a woman when in real life he is not?
Because he is an actor...
Why do you ruin these shorts with that AI voice!??! Terrible. I won’t watch or listen.
Sheldon was selfish and narcissistic person
