I couldn't have said what you said in the video any better! Thanks for the info and no, I don't think you missed anything for beginners. One thing I wish I knew when I started mountain biking was to shift your weight back over the rear wheel when you go down a really steep section of the trail. I learned the hard way. My often-used phrase was "nothing good ever happens when you go over the handlebars!" Back before seat droppers were commonly available, you either had to put your seat down manually or suffer the consequences when you tried to put your waist behind the seat. Also, as you found out in the video, momentum is important. But for beginners, that comes with experience and as you said, confidence. Another wonderful benefit of mountain biking is that you can get a great workout and have a ton of fun in flat South Florida! Every state in the country can have fantastic trails; just look at Arkansas. That's part of the reason why I mostly mountain bike now instead of ski the Front Range of Colorado. I can do it every day, all year long as long as we don't get too much snow below 9,000'.
So I've been doing it for some 10 years or so but this popped up in my recommended and i thought "Why not?" and had a squint. Glad I did... Lovely lass, nice vid, perfect beginners intro, fun attitude and laughs. Subscribed I like this gal 👍

I always loved biking since kid. Then life got complicated and i did other stuff. I was mostly interested in bodybuilding. Then 4 years ago i decided to revive old habbits and got myself a hardtail. I did couple of months and realized old habbits dont die. Got myself two high end carbon bikes from Trek. Ebike gen 4 rail and gen 5 Slash. Ive been shredding this years and had ton of fun and my health also has improved. Mtb is one of the most fun thing we can do, just gotta be careful to not crash to badly. Only thing its hard to do mtb in winter specially here in Sweden.
Great video as always Heather! I’d add to your list and suggest people start out with a hardtail. Learn how to get comfortable on the trails and then progress to a full sus. Just my .2 cents 🙂
Awesome work Heather. This video is top quality. It was great to learn some bike terms, hear what type of bike you ride and we got to see you ride the bike like a pro.
Wonderful video to get more people into mountain biking. When I first started dating my husband, he took me out riding and never though there was MTB trails in South Florida.
My advice to new people: Learn how to laugh and have just as much fun as Heather. (I'm kind of jealous that she's so good at it.) And I'm in Las Vegas. So if anybody wants to practice fun like that here, or Sedona, St. George, Moab, Colorado, California, etc... holla! I like pancakes, coffee, whatever the local/ craft beer is, pizza, and I do all my own stunts! I'll say, "You got this!" and "Whoa that was so sick!" to everything you do. Check your bike shop…. Buy your bike based on where YOU want to ride. If your goal is to ride the bike path around town, there’s a bike for that…! If your local park has fire roads or trails that are “wide enough for a car”, there’s a bike for that… If your local park has some dirt trails (aka: single track), there’s a bike for that… Regardless of the above, also ask how much vertical you’ll have. Will you be on relatively flat trails? Will you be climbing up hill? (Protip: if you’re riding up hill, always ask how much the bike weighs…. It’s just that much more weight you’ll be pedaling uphill) Trail ratings vary. The trails in this video (in FL) would be easy/green trails in my local park. Don’t buy a bike based on “trips” (for example, if you THINK you’ll go to Moab), buy something that fits your local trails and what you’ll ride locally. *IF* that Moab trip comes around, chances are, you can rent a bike there to suit *THOSE* trails.
@HeatherMunive What I meant was some videos where you're actually riding with a beginner..and coaching them. A series would show their progression over time. I feel like a newbie would benefit from some hands on teaching from you!

MTB riding in FL, the irony. But I need to say the bike park looks excellent, and the bike was top-notch (don't want to know how much it actually costs to buy). I live in CA, no bike parks nearby, Mammoth Lakes is the closest one, but plenty of steep parks where you can ride (unless in the rainy season the trails become soggy, then they close them).
ROFL, Florida does not have enough hill to really make a Black Diamond trail but he flowy XC style trails are nice wish we had more of that in MD. Boss moved up from Florida and was not happy with how much up and down we have on our trails and the serious amount of rock garden makes for bumpy ass rides. Usually go over to Delaware for some flatter stuff.
florida doesn't have sustained climbs. it does have a lot of up and down and tech. QW was always sorta chill, but those new features are pretty big. that little punchy climb she falls off is a classic though. i think i've only ever seen one person get up it.
Great video Heather but I think you should have mentioned the prices for the bikes. This is a very important piece in the process. The individual wants to know how much will they have to invest to start this new sport.
You forgot one of the most important guidelines of MTB, n + 1. 😂 Honestly though one of the best things about MTB is it can be a family sport. For those dismissing FL trails, yep nothing to see here so just move along. That’s why I didn’t get an MTB until I was 50 when my son got interested. Could not believe the number of trails in FL. Now I feel like I missed out not taking the plunge in the 90’s.
Why does nobody wear elbow pads? It’s a trend that I really don’t like. I watch bike videos every day, and this is the thing that bothers me the most, especially if you’re making a video for beginners. To fall off your bike is a certainty, and elbow pads do help people having a good time even after a crash. Now every RUclipsr do not wear them, and it’s (sadly) common in the new generations not to. Keep going Heather, your contents are great! Sorry for my bad English!
Absolutely true! I always wear them! I have a buddy that severely broke his elbow. It was one of the worst injuries I’ve ever seen! It’s a vanity thing, I think. It’s not worth the risk if you fall and don’t have elbow pads on.
I recently got skewered in the chest by my handlebars in a crash. I’m thinking a chest protector wouldn’t be a bad idea. I’m still licking my wounds after that one!
Looks like a great place to ride! What is the name of this park? For new riders I'd also make them aware of tire pressure. I've seen many riders start off with their tires pumped way up and then they slide out on loose terrain...yikes! :-0
