Just purchased one today at Dick’s for my 14 year old son for Christmas. The other option at same price was only a bench with 45 pound bar and 300lbs of weight. My wife felt this was a safer setup since it eliminates the free weights over his head. Plus at that age he’s not going to be hitting 300 anything soon. 150 pounds is perfect for a beginner and I think he’s going to love it!!
Just got this and have begun assembling it. Definitely my first big purchase after getting a house. Looking forward to start it. It will be nice avoiding people who only use the gym to do tiktoc and insta posts. I mean before people would bring water jugs and a protein shakers, now all they have are tripods. 😑
Just started using this machine. I’m in no hurry to burn myself, just looking to get in better shape, so this has been a great guide for something quick to do and gradually increase the weight when I’m comfortable.

If you are over 6ft, I would definitely recommend getting the 200lbs version of this Marcy model (MKM-81010). Those extra 8 inches that the 200lbs model has over the MWM-990 or lesser is extremely helpful and will allow your ranges with the pull-down system. I've built all other models, and had to take each on back as I was not able to do a full range of motion without the pulley hitting the top of the weight stack. It wasn't until I tried the MKM-81010 that I was able to workout with ease and comfort. I love that model now and would strong recommend it.
Hey man, hope you are doing great, quick q: i'm thinking of getting this machine but i'm not sure if the leg extension will be too long for me since i'm only 5'7, do you recommend it for someone my height? Thank you.
1. sit reverse you can get a good lat pulldown, and I use a narrow v bar pull down 2.use upper grip on chest press for upper chest 3. get a board and do a machine row with chest press its like a row machine backwards 4. get a chair and v bar and do cable row
Assembly by myself was not too hard. I took my time and followed the diagrams. I particularly like the pictures and names of the exercises organized by muscle groups on the front of the ruclips.net/user/postUgkxKJHyBZ9I1py9vVi-XLpEBg0y-qmdhn3q . Considering the number of exercises it has a relatively small footprint. I needed a machine that was not too tall because I only have 79" headroom in my cabin and this was just over 78". It is easy to use, seems to be well made, and I am pleased with my purchase. I am doing upper body muscles on Monday and Thursday. Lower body exercises are being done on Tuesday and Friday. Not using it on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. I am a reasonably fit 66 year old man and this is a great workout.
Bought one recently due to COVID restrictions at gym. Took about 6 hours for me to install. Parts are not impression stamped with ID #, instructions are pics only, but there are a few RUclips installation videos that were helpful. Definitely the seat is too short. I'm 6' 1" and wish this system had an adjustable seat for pull-downs and leg extensions. Range of motion for flies is severely limited. But for the price and space requirements, and the fact that I also have free weights and a bench to the side, this works for me. Mine came only with the pull-down lat bar and ankle/wrist strap. I bought rope, V bar, and straight bar as a separate bundle.
True it took me and my sister 4-5 hours to assemble it together since the instructions weren’t that clear and plus we kept messing up on the cables and the wheels
@@shanebell5222 Do you? I see everyone complaining if they are over 6ft. I'm 5'10 and I'm definitely a rookie just to need to build muscle and get in shape lose weight.. u think it can work?
@minivanventuring yes. Great for beginners, hell to be honest I let my self go and got to 250lbs just started using it again and now I'm 210 lbs did it in 3 months.
I have this system. Few things: If you are tall like me 6" 3", you can't get full extention on pull downs, the chest cable flies stink, and if you do the bent over row the front of the system lifts off the ground because its so back heavy. @@johnmatlin1543 I put a 25 lb dumbbell on each side. I don't think this machine was meant for a bent over row using the bottom cable. It's still a good home gym system though. I would recommend.
Dont do behind the back lat pull down. Its a wear and tear on your joints, and will kill your shoulders. Your shoulders aren't meant to be in that position especially while straining.
@@DCeasedbrickbuilds I hope your shoulders stand the test. Once you have a rotator tear or labrum your shoulders will never be the same not to mention the pain. Surgery to repair this type of injury is very painful along with the downtime. Again after surgery you will never gain a new shoulder. Good luck 👍

We bought this during covid. OK I guess but discovered serious drawbacks as I got into heavier lifts. The preacher curl pad is too narrow; notice how his elbows are on the edge. That's distracting and risky with heavier weights. Also, Marcy opted for round tubing instead of square for this part...why?! It doesn't stay put. I would like to modify the preacher pad (wider and with barbell attachment) but the round tube really limits my options. Tip: periodically check and tighten the screw that locks the cable into the plate stack. Note that some movements cause the cables to rub hard against the inside of the square tubing which will cause cracks in the cable sheath and loosen the screw.

Why didn't I get the short curling bar? I got the chain, leg strap, and lat bar... No short bar that he uses in the bicep curls! It's not in the parts list either. Just purchased the 990 3 weeks ago... 🤔
I am 5 foot 10. Theblat pull down is not "tall" enough for a proper pull down as you can not stretch your arms up. If you could lower the seat it would be fine but you can not. Also using it for fly's does not provide full range of motion either as the bars sit to far forward. The lower pulley cable outer case shredded within the first week of using it for rows. Had to order a new cable for that. This is "ok" but I would suggest spending more money on something else. I regret this myself.
What is the max amount it allows for the chest press? I don't want to buy something and have it not do me much good. I want to be able to use it for a while and progressively overload. Also, would it be an easy fit for me - im about 6'3.

It all depends on the muscle groups you want to target. With this machine you can target almost all muscle groups, a myriad of which are illustrated in the instructional pictures above the weights. Once you figure out what muscle groups you want to target, the number of sets and reps he lists in the video are good.

Wonder why not...?
AJ PARKER I was wondering the same thing I just thought u buy it separately
The big negative for me is the fly aspect on the machine but everything else is good
why
Roberto Freedom not much range of motion
I am 5 foot 10. Theblat pull down is not "tall" enough for a proper pull down as you can not stretch your arms up. If you could lower the seat it would be fine but you can not.
Also using it for fly's does not provide full range of motion either as the bars sit to far forward.
The lower pulley cable outer case shredded within the first week of using it for rows. Had to order a new cable for that.
This is "ok" but I would suggest spending more money on something else. I regret this myself.
What do you recommend? I'm 5 10 too
What is the max amount it allows for the chest press? I don't want to buy something and have it not do me much good. I want to be able to use it for a while and progressively overload. Also, would it be an easy fit for me - im about 6'3.

It all depends on the muscle groups you want to target. With this machine you can target almost all muscle groups, a myriad of which are illustrated in the instructional pictures above the weights. Once you figure out what muscle groups you want to target, the number of sets and reps he lists in the video are good.
