I feel like gale got some injustice, he got paralized and crit for 86 damage (which would one shot anyone in the party). so i don't blame him for not taking the hit well... (also he has magic resistance causing the low damage i think)
Asterion got the same treatment and took 90 damage. Paralyzation and hitting with a melee weapon that has a Dex save is nasty since paralyze results in advantage, an automatic crit on a melee hit, and automatic failure of Dex (and Str) saves. This would be a challenging fight even if Malus wasn't able to revive the Sisters, whom are buffing him. I agree with Geran that as great as BG3 is it can be absolute bollocks in the stats that npcs (especially bosses) have for their supposed level if we're going by 5e's rules. I'm sure there is some way to cheese this fight but at face value this shouldn't be as difficult as it proved to be- this feels like one of those encounters where a human DM would have said "are you sure you want to do that?" or at least hinted at the likely difficulty when given the option to attack them.
