    Huge fan of Maxcatch rods! The performance vs value just puts them far above rods that cost 3x-4x more. This was a great review, excellent feedback! I'd love to hear about that discount you mentioned.

    I couldn’t agree more I recently over the past few weeks bought some Maxcatch stuff one being a Saltpro fly rod and I initially bought the Sparta reel and general salt water fly line for fishing the Clyde Estuary, once arrived and I seen the quality I sold my big brand competition cassette reel setup and bought 12 Avid reels for a fraction of the price it cost me for my stillmaniac reel setup so my competition rig for this year will be 2 stillmaniac rods an orvis recon and 12 maxcatch avid fly reels with all my lines on, I can’t fault them I was looking at this very nymph rod as well and after watching this I will certainly be ordering it.

    I just received the 10’ 2 weight and am very impressed. pretty good quality. casts 20# mono line easily. paired it with their Eco 5/6 reel. loaded it with 30# backing and attached 20# Amnesia directly to that. this balances the rod to the middle of the handle. for $100 total I can beat up this rod and feel great about it.

      Cheers mate, I would really go for anything that has a full cage and a good drag. The reel I had on this was the Scierra Traxion 1 LW 2/3 weight which balances the 10’’ rod nicely. May need the 3/4 weight for the 10’ 6 rod as the 2/3 could make the rod a bit tip heavy. Some people do like a bit more weight at the but end, hope this helps. I can’t really comment on the two rods that you mentioned, not on the performance, although they are lighter than the Maxcatch, probably due to better quality carbon in the build. I can tell you that it’s better than the vision hero nymph rod. I am a firm believer if you buy cheap you buy twice. If I got two seasons from the maxcatch and bought another rod for the next two seasons, I would still be better off compared to the top brands. I will catch just as many fish with a cheaper rod, but than I will with an expensive rod. I won’t be wrapping it up in cotton wool and scared to use it. Don’t get me wrong, if money was no object I would buy expensive rods, it’s kudos and what we do. Sorry I couldn’t answer your original question. If your new to euro nymphing, I wouldn’t go down the top brand route, to start with. Thanks for commenting👍

    Have you tried the Maxcatch Nano Nymph rod yet? I want a 10' 4wt and the Intouch doesn't come in that size.

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  Год назад +1

      Hello Alan, I haven’t tried the nano range so can’t really comment.thanks for the comment tho.personally I don’t go above a 3 weight rod when euro nymphing as I think the lower weights are better suited for the task. I know many anglers use a 4 weight if they want to switch to casting dry fly. I would rather take two rods that are made for each task but that’s just my opinion mate.

    • @aircomp
      @aircomp Год назад

      @@PiscatorUK-Fishing Thanks. Yeah, I'm looking to try the Troutbitten mono rig approach and the 10' 4wt allows for even streamer fishing (via tippet swap). Also, supposedly, the Nano is very light so wouldn't impair nymphing as much as some 4wts. It's a hybrid/compromise approach though, so I appreciate your separate rod approach.

    Found your video very interesting. May I ask why you chose a two weight over a three weight? I’m hoping to get into euro nymphing but wasn’t sure about the weight thing. I’ve fished small to medium rivers in Northern Ireland using traditional fly rod and I love a two weight but thought I’d need extra umph with a three weight because of the light line. Many thanks Ed

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  Год назад +1

      Thanks Ed, I chose the 2 weight because I mainly fish smaller rivers. A 3 weight is a better all rounder rod and is a bit longer. The euro rod weight is not related to the fly line as anglers use euro lines which are light with a straight through diameter of 0.60mm unlike traditional fly rods weights which are relative to the weight of fly line. I use a mono leader of 0.18mm, which is considered a micro leader which works well with the 2 weight.

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  9 месяцев назад

      Cheers mate, if I was going to go for another maxcatch I would definitely go for the 3wt 10.6 or 11ft 3wt as you will be able to cast heavier bugs if required. Never tried the Eco reel, but I would recommend a reel with a full closed cage and a nice drag. The reel hi had on is the srixon 1 LW, nice drag and full cage. I’ve now got the vision hero reel, got it second hand £70.

    Hello mister piscator how does the rod feel in your hand?what is the swing weight like?

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Ryan, although this rod is relatively heavy at 98grams compared to higher spec rods, it feels very light in the hand, in fact I feel very little difference in weight in the hand against my 10.5ft 3wt Nymphmaniac which is 20grams lighter. Hence the swing weight has a very low inertia which will reduce overall fatigue. On a side note, the maxcatch feels better against my vision 3wt when it comes to casting lighter bugs. What I mean by that is, when casting and during the drift with light bugs I feel totally connected to my bugs using a Spanish micro leader due to the rod sensitivity. Hope this helps
