The shelter I work with just got in about 40 cats from a hoarding situation, and many are suffering from scabies, lice, and ringworm. So, I thought this was a good opportunity to do a video on how to lime dip a cat! Our newest foster Gretl gets her first lime dip and she is a wonderful patient! Have you ever cared for a cat with a skin issue? What worked? What didn't? Let us know here!

I've been soaking a sponge in the lime sulfer dip and rubbing it on patches. But my current foster cat has severe ring worm issues. He gave it to all my other cats. They have countless crusty spots under their fur, which are hard to spot. I am considering physically dipping them in lime sulfer.
Could you tell me how to dry them after this procedure? You can't leave them soaked, can you?
Also is their anal area safe to be exposed to lime sulphur?
      Please let me know.

Rubber gloves is a must! Especially if multiple cats. I learned the hard way. Take forever to heal and hurts so much to touch and warm water

There's no way I would be able to get my cat in a tub for this. I can't even pick him up.

Do you put a cone on the cat afterwards to stop it from licking up the lime sulphur? I am pretty nervous about my cat ingesting it and can't work out from this video when it is safe.

My 9 year old is horrible with baths. Sometimes, he doesn't yell and scream so much. I rescued him from the shelter when he was 7 years old, and he has had at least 6 or 7 baths now in the entire time I've had him so he should be getting used to being in water by now. 😂 I have to give him baths because he has dry skin, and he flakes a lot regardless of drinking water and eating a good kibble. I have allergies to cats. My pulmonologist told me that I should get rid of him to save my asthma, but I can't do that because we are super glue bonded to each other. So giving him a bath here and there is the better option.

thank you so much for this video. I'm about to do a lime dip for my Tortie cat as well in a couple of days
Can I just ask the name of that petroleum product that you used to put above their eyes?
I'd like to get some of that from my Tortie

Any tips for kittens who are still being socialized? I have 5 kittens, 13 weeks, 3 are hams but 2 are scared. They have ringworm so I really needed this video, thanks for showing me how to do the baths! Just scared of getting them to cooperate 😂

Do you have any information on how you cleaned your home/protected from reinfection while going through ringworm treatment? I just adopted my first kitten and found out she has ringworm :( I’m going to start using lime dips and oral medication but everything I’ve read online makes it seem impossible to clean and avoid reinfection without completely isolating the her. I live in a studio apartment so I don’t have any way to isolate her from myself - luckily she is the only pet in the home at the moment. Thanks in advance!

You wash your hands with soap and water. You can use hand sanitizer too.

Thank you so much I was looking for a video like this where I am educated enough so that i can treat my kitten at home she really hates the vet but just one question actually my kitten is two months old can i do this treatment on her I am already giving her oral medication as per the vet suggestions so is it safe to try it on my cat?

Hi thank you for the video❤️ I just wanted to ask if it’s possible that I put a cone collar on my cat as he grooms a lot. I assume ingesting it would be dangerous. And if I put a collar on him, when should I take him off for it to be safe for him to from himself ?

    • @KittenSchool
      @KittenSchool  2 года назад +2

Hello Valentina! Do you mean put a cone collar on after you lime dip him, to keep him from ingesting it? If so, yes that would be fine until the solution dries on his fur and then it's not harmful. Hope you're kitty is feeling better soon!

If the sulfur lime dip kills lice, does it kill fleas? The directions I've read say to do it every 5-7 days and to give them a bath first, which is so hard to do. Is it okay then to do it every 3 days? The instructions also say to not use the sulfur lime dip on open wounds. My cat's skin is super inflamed. He scratches so hard he has broken his skin everywhere! I've been doing so many things. I bought a gallon of concentrated sulfur lime dip and I've done it, but not twice a week until gone, and I don't know if it is making him worse, or if the fleas are just getting worse. He is allergic to fleas. If I can get rid of the fleas, his skin will heal--I know this from experience. Unfortunately, they don't make Comfortis anymore, and it worked really well for him, without side effects. Today I soaked him in coconut oil. Fleas were jumping ship. Lots of them. Whenever I do any of this I keep him in the bathroom with a heater, or wrapped in a towel on my lap. If you have any advice on open to it.

I know your comment is a year old but if you still battle fleas, the best thing I have found is to simply comb daily. Initially it seems like a lot, especially if your baby has an infestation, but once und we r control, it literally takes about 2-3 minutes for a quick comb ... I set a bowl of water with Dawn dishsoap and dip the comb and any fleas I find in the bowl. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats that come indoor/outdoor and I do them all ... because I do it daily it's super quick as there are very few fleas now, if any at all. Those topical ointments are dangerous and don't work anyway. This works.

Hi there, could you give the cat a bath with some gentle shampoo? This might help. Then put over the cat with warm water where you have steeped some strong tea, since the tea contains a compound that could help your cat's skin. Let your cat lie in the sun as much as he wants, because the sun can help heal the skin. I hope this helps!
