Great discussion, guys. Always interesting to hear Sky’s perspective on these wings. It is hard to wrap my head around all the choices available these days!
Yep - there's a bunch! But....we got you covered brother! You know that you can email me any time at halflifet.5@gmail.com. We'll get you completely dialed regardless of the foil discipline you want to get after.
Great to hear from you.
Tim
Thanks again guys. Sky Rama is a humble sick rider and good dude. Love your videos guys!
Thanks Ken -- I couldn't agree with you more! Thanks for checking out our video!
Cheers,
Tim
Great video, thanks for all their info. I can hardly wait to get in the water and start trying theses foils 🤙🏻
He Gareth! For sure - we have you totally dialed in with foil lessons with Sky when you're in Maui. Can't wait. If you need any assistance on winging, we can dial you in to great lessons there as well but my sense is that your wing game is coming along well.
Thanks so much for checking out the video. I just got back to Seattle today from Maui....already ready to head on back. Big wave wing foiling and lots of days prone. So fun. You're going to have a great trip.
All the best,
Tim
Can you guys speak to the difference between the CV series vs the HS series and how thos relates to foiling in waves?
Hi Matthew -- Actually the CF series right :-)? The CF series is going to be a bit slower, more stable, and suitable for arcing turns. The HS series is the performance series that is great for the more aggressive rider. If you look at one example of relative similar size the CF1200 is a nice smooth wave shape that carves nicely and feels great under foot. The HS1250 is faster, similar carve ability but pumps much better than the 1200. Typically we steer folks more toward the HS series so that their progression is limitless. Please feel free to email me at halflifet.5@gmail.com for further questions or if you'd be interested in making an order. We ship Armstrong gear globally.
All the best,
Tim
@@HALFLIFEVIDEO thanks Tim! Form the sound of it, HS is better for pumping and connecting waves with more glide. The CS is better for faster popup on foil, and maybe the turing is a little more direct.
I wouldn't say faster popup - I'd say more stable pop up on the CF :-)
Turning - more stable on CF, sharper, more responsive on HS
Looking forward to hear about the HS850 now 😄
Hey Kevin,
What foil discipline do you do primarily? We're looking at a couple different review approaches and would love your feedback.
Best,
Tim
@@HALFLIFEVIDEO hey guys. I do mostly Kitefoil in flat water and waves.
@@clouclouc Nice - the 850 is great for that. Give us a few weeks and we'll put together a review for you.
@@HALFLIFEVIDEO thanks legends!
Enjoyed the video and discussion! I’m wondering what Armstrong wing you all would recommend for downwinders (using a wing ding to get me up on foil and towing myself into swell, then just parking the wing with the front handle and surfing swell) on the Columbia river. I’m a pretty experienced kiter both in ocean waves and on the river and just learned foiling (both kiting and with a wing) this past season. What are your thoughts? I’m currently using a gofoil iwa and Kai wing for winging and kiting, respectively.
When you say Columbia River -- are you talking Gorge? I ask mostly because of the wind and size of waves. An argument could be made for the 1850, 1250, and 1550 depending upon the wind. Those swells don't match the power of ocean swells but you have big winds to offset and periodically power up with the wing. I don't want this to sound like a cop out but I'd go for a two foil quiver (assuming you're ~160-180lbs) -- the HS1850 and the HS1250. The 1250 for those days when the gorge is blowing consistent and strong - it will be a blast. The HS1850 for the mid to lighter days for riding Swell, the Hatch, Dougs, The Wall, Roosevelt, Arlington, etc. Make sense? If you're riding closer to Portland let me know.
You assumed correctly about my weight. 180. I’m mostly riding out in the far eastern Columbia river (I live in Walla Walla) so I end up at Roosevelt, 3 mile, and my local spot at port Kelly. What you said about the 1850/1250 combo makes a lot of sense. Just curious, why did you skip over the 1550 in that combo?
Great videos! What size wing for a really crappy middle aged surfer about 190 lbs on small waves? I went to kiting 20 years ago and haven’t really surfed since but moving to a nice spot with waves for half the year.
Btw, if you’re back in the NW drive up towards port angeles...great spots for foiling
Thanks guys keep rocking the videos
Hi David -- Sound like my kind of surfer! :-)
For the waves - it really depends upon how small. For example Sky is ~200lbs and rides the 1250 and 1050 all the time. John is ~180lb (loves the 1250), I'm ~175 and prefer the 1250. This would range from rib cage / shoulder to over head. If they will typically be ~waist high I'd go with the HS1850. If rib cage and higher the 1250. We ship all over the U.S. and would love to connect with you to sell you an Armstrong setup. We also offer Zoom lessons so that we can get you up and going safely and speed your ramp.
Thanks for watching our videos - we really appreciate it. Hopefully you subscribed and follow us on Instagram @halflifet.5
And you're totally right - the straights are a great surfing area.
Best,
Tim

Guardians of the holy rail. That should be a bumper sticker on Sky's NV200.
Hey Jason!
For sure -- I think it goes right below the Hawaiian Island decal!
All the best,
Tim
What are your thoughts on the HS 1550 v2 compared to the 1250?
It depends upon your typical wave size. Please shoot us an email at halflifet.5@gmail.com and we'll get the right wing going for you.
Cheers,
Tim
Guys,
What about 1550 wing? Is it a good wing for a rookie to start a surffoil. My background is 1 year of kitefoiling, no surf at all. 82 kg. Knee low waves . What wing should I start?
You're essentially my weight :-). The board selection will be key for you -- especially without any surf experience. Please check out this video: ruclips.net/video/672yJNYLmnk/видео.html
Something that shares the characteristics of the Jimmy Lewis would be great to start on. I personally love the HS1550 to start on. It carves nicely and is stable. I will tell you, however, that our current favorite prone foil is the HS1250. So...the question is -- do you currently have an Armstrong foil kit? If so - which one.
Please email us at halflifet.5@gmail.com and we'll get you totally dialed in.
Hopefully you subscribed to the RUclips channel and follow us on Instagram @halflifet.5

@HALF-LIFE Hey Tim, Thanks once more for your help. As i live in Brazil, i think Armstrong doesnt have dealer here. I will buy something similar in shape and size. Here we have avalable MOSES/SAB foil. I will take a look on SURFFOIL BOARD video to get more informations. Cheers Leo
Sounds good -- happy to look into shipping options for you. If it weren't for Covid I'd hop on a plane and hit the water with you!
Tim
The HS1550v1 should really be called the CF1550.
Rename it in your head, and the Armstrong universe will suddenly make sense.
Yes indeed. The 1550V1 is a part of the CF family.
Cheers,
The Half-Life Team
