Making a ton of bottle openers on my Onefinity Journeyman X-50 CNC machine. Even though its a hobby CNC router, this machine can batch out product (if you don't mess things up...) Overall it was a pretty easy cnc project! Woodworking on a cnc router is great!

Anyone who has worked with a cnc can feel your pain. You went from around 300 of them to less than half that. Took it like a champ! Loved the end product as well
Yeah it can be rough sometimes, but it worked out in the end!
What's better than roses on your piano? Tulips on your organ.
Love that you show your mistakes and what you learned from them, but more importantly, I don't feel half as bad about myself about how cluttered my garage workshop is. 😉 Keep the great content coming!
Great video. Not only do you show the learning process of a project but I appreciate the cinematography of your videos.
Joke: Working in a mirror factory is something I can totally see myself doing.
lol, and thanks so much I really appreciate it!
"If anyone has successfully bleached there own ASH at home, please let me know" Haha
Came here for this
My new favorite RUclips channel for that one simple line 🤣
0:13 the first video I've literally LOL at in quite a while. Not laughing at you. I'm laughing because it happens to all of us!
Hi Hamilton, How fun! We absolutely learn from our mistakes. So much detail on such a small item and looked pain staking at times. But… you persevered and finished like a tru champion. Very impressed. Great job as always. Thanks, ~ Al
This was a real emotional roller coaster.
My favorite one line joke: I'm from the government and I'm here to help.
You got an audible laugh out of me
New subscriber here. Live the idea and we've all been there with messing up a tool path, though I'm really glad I can say I haven't done it in 146 times lol props to you for showing the good, bad, and the ugly.
Hamilton your sense of humor is refreshing. Enjoyed your project. Give some thought to a three out pattern that may get you more pieces per board if the board is wide enough. God Bless!
I absolutely love your video! Thanks to your mom's post, I got to see the talented southern side of the family. One of my favorite parts, was when you danced the little jig while waiting on the saw. Love the bottle openers, great idea! Keep up the great work. I'm looking forward to more of your videos. I'm sure you get some of your delightful sense of humor from your grandad, he's was an amazing man. 😁 Thanks for the smiles and giggles!!❤️
Thank you so much!
This channel is absolutely awesome, great projects and love the funny editing. Keep it up!
Your video was awesome, really enjoyed it. Prime example of trial and error. LOL! That's me made over. I'm really delighted that you showed some errors you made, kinda brings everything to the realization that everybody is prone to making mistakes. Thanks!
Thanks so much, I appreciate it!
Amazing. I'm sorry that the material was lost, but I'm happy for the subscription and I'll throw some money your way on etsy soon. Cheers. Thanks for helping new guys like me.
I know its late but I used a lot of oxalic acid to clean carbon on Lichtenberg wood burnings, You did fine, just need to rinse it after you use it, probably a bucket for the acid and then 2 buckets of clear water. Its really not going to do much on ash anyway since ash has very little tannins in it. Love your channel!
Your editing has come a long way and improves with each video! I’m enjoying seeing your progress, pitfalls and learnings in each video. Keep up the great work. I just ordered my journeyman yesterday, now the 10-12 week waiting game starts :)
Joke: Papa tomato, momma tomato and child tomato were walking along. Child tomato was slowing down so papa tomato went back and kicked him and said “catch up”
Thanks, and congrats on the order! The wait is for sure worth it!
I subbed for the frustration!! The contest is over but I'm full of jokes, lol! Every time you use a lighter..it gets even lighter!!
My wife took all the blankets last night. It ok, I recovered.
From what I got from the video only the magnet holes and the bottle opener holes were to small but the outside cut was good. If that's the case you can adjust them in your design software and reload the g-code. You won't need to zero the machine as long as you don't shut it down or change the bit. Another thing if the outside cut is good just remove that in your design software. I have done this before on my journeyman and it worked out great. That will save you time. I hope this helps.
Thanks! I'll try that if I come across this again. A few reasons that it wouldn't have worked for these- but thats good info for the future!
Hamilton looks completely strange....
Without a hat 😅😂 on backwards!!
Love that you show the mistakes too, it's very humbling!
Joke: "I'm afraid for the calendar. Its days are numbered."
haha thanks!
Excellent. Well done. Nice depiction of reality and creatively composed!
"You can walk with a wooden leg...but you can't see with a glass eye" SAFETY GLASSES?
Not sure if anybody else has commented. With oxalic acid you have to rinse them off with water afterwards. You rinse off all the crystals. I don’t know if the color is what you want it but you can’t leave that on there. I know you know that but generally oxalic acid let it dry then rinse it off with water. Let them dry then finish.
Excellent! Joke: What did Kermit The Frog say at Jim Henson's funeral? Nothing :)
Great vid! My CNC just arrived today and have been enjoying this channel immensely! Hi from Japan :)
Hey! Thats awesome!
I love all of the Onefinity experimentation
Joke: That's what she said.😬
I actually LOL'd all through this. Also subbed. Great video!
So you successfully made an 'ASH' of yourself 🤣
🌵 To you from AZ 🌵
How many tickles does it take to make an octopus laugh?
10 tickles! 🤪
lol!
"IF anyones bleached their own ash.."
SIR! lol I'm dying!
My sons are now running around yelling "DIRTY ASH!"
oh no, I'm becoming a bad influence lol!
I recently watched a guy use a piece of EVA foam or something spongey like that on his workbench when he routered his pieces. The mat held steady between the work and the bench so it was probably something rubbery.
What did the ocean say to the beach... nothing it just waved.
Enjoyed the jig and your upbeat attitude 😎
Thanks so much!
Here's a good one for you.....Yesterday I ate a clock , it was very time consuming,. Especially when I went back for seconds
lol!
@6:30 I see what you did there. Haha
Another great video!🤙🏽
Joke: if your house is to cold, go stand in the corner….it’s 90 degrees there.
hahah thanks!
I've never "Bleached My Ash" before. But good to know...:)
I'm no cnc expert but why could you make a second pass in order for the opener to fit? As well as the magnets? The outer diameter wouldn't have been what a 1/4 in smaller then planned. Honestly curious as to why you couldn't have.
Earned the "like" simply for the "anyone bleach their own ash at home" comment :D
RUclips is full of people who has experience in bleaching their ashes
i saw you sanding with the help of zone dubble sided tape. but there is acualy a pretty simple alternate. you can stick a pice of sandpaper to the workbench, or stick it to a piece of marble/glass, and then you always have a grippy surface
“When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? -Cave Johnson
lol
Alway get the last word with your wife, Yes Dear
I wonder if you put the magnets at the "top and bottom" of the opener insert, rather than the "left and right" if the magnet would catch the bottle cap after opening so you wouldn't have to catch or chase the cap after opening it.
Joke & Truth:
I'm watching your video here when you choose the words of "If anyone has successfully bleached their own ash at home..." To which my wife heard something very similar, but also VERY different if you catch my meaning. Needless to say, my wife thought that I was watching a very different 'How to' video! =) Thanks for the laughs!
hahaha glad yall got a laugh out of it!
Missed opportunity for "bleached ash hole" joke at @6:33
great video!
Joke: Mary had a little lamb and the Dr. fainted. believe it or not my grandmother told me that one. lol
lol!
Related Funny: It's really hard to bleach your own ash, just ask Hamilton!
lol!
3 Iirishmen walk out of a bar!!!
Hey it could happen.
hah!
LOL, so many ash jokes could be had!!!!
Id be so mad at myself if I did that I dunno how you keep your cool lol nice work after you got it right
It helped that it wasn't for a client haha, I think that would have been a different ending.
Great video! Bummer with the product… i can totally relate to that.
A thing that struck me was. Since the pieces already were stuck to the sacrificial board. Why not run it again with some offset of the tool path you made wrong
I have identified the reason you made the mistake ;)
@3:48 I can see you dont have the measure tool visible..
Should be just above the vector line box tools.
I use the measure tool all the time as well as the size coordinates on bottom right info bar.
But as you said, you dont learn if you dont boo boo..
Just found your channel. Very cool. Subscribed
I've often thought of bleaching my ash as well, but then I'm like "What the heck for?"
A duck walks into a drug store and tells the clerk "I want a red lipstick" to which the clerk replies "Do you want me to put it on your bill?"
Great video!! Thank you for demonstrating your humility.
Joke: A perfectionist walked into a bar...apparently, the bar wasn’t set high enough.
hahah thanks so much!
sweet magnet holders it would be cool if you could make one with a striped design. you could use purple heart, white ash, and... maybe red oak?
Cool double sided tape trick for routing!
Thanks!
So familiar with scrapping parts. :) Brass just costs a lot more than wood! My most recent made-up joke: "I recently went to a poetry reading event at a local prison, but I'm not sure if I would recommend it. I suppose it had its prose and cons."
hah thats funny!
@@HamiltonDilbeck Thanks! My mind is constantly coming up with plays on words.
Fun to watch you create!
Apparently I snore so loudly that it scares everyone in the car I'm driving.
hah! Thanks!
Hamilton what two sided tape do you prefer?
To get the effect you want on ash, you have to use 2 part wood bleach. Both dangerous and toxic.
You can achieve a similar effect with white stain and finished with a water-based urethane
Great stuff here. But man, why wouldn't you pause the run after each new operation and check your pockets with some gage pins and the bottle opener plate. Just because it's CNC doesn't mean you can forget about the measure three times / cut once rule. Also, I would have attempted to chase the work with the corrected path and a compression bit... but that's just me being a cheap bastard! Anyway, I'm glad I found this channel and you now have a new subscriber.
Why didn’t you just enlarge the pocket when it was too small?
You could have just increased the size of the inlay cut out and moved the magnet holes over.. magnets would be touching the bottle opener , but maybe that would have worked to stick the cap to the opener..
The only one-liner I ever say: I'm so broke that I can't even pay attention.
thats a good one!
Great stuff as always!
Joke: I have a fear of speed bumps, but I am slowly getting over it.
lol
Saw your post on Reddit. Great video. Surprised I hadn’t come across your channel before.
Thanks!
Great video man, keep up the good work!
Thanks, will do!
Did you hear about the 2 antennas that got married? The wedding was just so so, but the reception was great.
haha!
great video. what is the thickness of your wood? 4/4 or 3/4?
Yep, I no longer do large numbers at once. Break the job into small numbers at a time. If not, Its always hours of cutting and wasted wood. Oh how I wish it would work perfectly.
Thanks once again for a great video! "When life gives you melons, you might be dyslexic"
Can confirm. Being dyslexic myself, I make a lot of melonade.
Hey Ham - probably stupid question, but are all he cutouts done with a laser? Does it leave black heat marks in the wood?
Ah yeah been there. Cut 250 pieces on my cnc on the inside of the cut instead of the outside....... all ended up in the bin
It's the worst isn't it!
Nice ash. Have not bleach my ash. Have chapped my ash though. 😁👏👍👊💯
you need a big ash version!
I wouldn't bleach my own ash. I always have mine professionally done.
People who run CNC routers have their work cut out for them.
------------------------
I make designer kindling…
----------------------
An apprentice carpenter approached a hardware store clerk.
“A pound of nails, please,” he said timidly.
“How long do you want them?”
“Well, I think we’ll need to keep them…”
lol, I really liked the first one! I'll use that for sure
Oxalic acid is edible, and non toxic, in crystal form I am not sure if that changes or not but in wild foods it's quite a good taste, it's what gives a tangy sort of flavor, in bushcraft use wild sorrel gives a beautiful contrast with other strong salad ingredients like rocket. Adding it to a chacuterie flavoured like board would be mouth watering.
If it's mixed with something else it might be harmful but on a bottle top 100% oxalic shouldn't be an issue.
It does give a diuretic effect if you eat lots and lots of it, but by lots I mean you would have to puree a garbage bags worth of wild sorrel and knock it back. Also it can but is very rare to have alergic reactions in people from it.
Whoa! Thanks for all that info! I really appreciate you taking the time to write that all out!
@@HamiltonDilbeck No problem, I just wouldn't want to see all that wood being dumped for no reason man.
I mean do double check with a trained pharmacist but the crystallization of things like that in foods is usually a safe thing, in some cases even helpful, Like that is how they used to make paracetamol from the I can't remember the name of that acid from the willow tree, but it used to be sold as "something? crystals" before it became paracetamol .
Whats the material you have over the x y rails ?
Fine vid!
When does a bad joke become a dad joke? When the punchline is apparent.
Loved the video
Thanks!
I feel you at 0:39
lol thanks
I told my wife that she needed to start embracing her mistakes.
So, she hugged me. 🤷♂️
where did you get your brass stamps?
Aah yeah, the joys and frustrations of cnc. Have you noticed that most of the time the gremlin in the system doesn’t make an appearance until most or all of the project is ruined. Mine is usually a glitch in the code, I guess, and it takes off in the wrong direction plowing through the piece like a plow run amok in a field.
I enjoyed your video. I especially appreciate that you are willing to show your mess-ups as well as successes.
Joke: Why can't you tell when a pterodactyl is going to the bathroom? Because the pee is silent.
lol, thanks so much!
Couldn't just modify the original program and rerun with new toolpaths?
I guess the nice thing about having a YT channel is that a total screw isn't completely lost, provided you're open to sharing those mistakes :D
Seeing that you rounded over the edges by hand, just wondering if you've tried rounding over the edges using the CNC? Any pitfalls going that route?
Yep! And I'm a big one for showing mistakes. I've never used my CNC for roundovers- but it would require flipping the part over to get both sides and I'm not quite there yet. One day, though!
Haven’t watched the whole video yet but you shouldn’t be pushing the flutes up into the collet like that, it’s going to create more vibration and make surface finish worse (and also shorten the life of the tool). The flutes should be sticking out fully with just the shank engaged in the collet.
I'm new to this - is there a reason not to do at least one side of the round over ON the CNC to save time? Or is that not a thing?
Hey! Yes you for sure can do that- for me it's just easier and faster to put the round overs on with the palm router
@@HamiltonDilbeck Awesome - thank you for your response. Good to know. Yeah, I assume if it changed mills by itself, that would make it quicker, but if you're fast with the palm router, good on ya.
I spent a lot of time, money, and effort childproofing my house … but the kids still get in.
hah!
What bit are you using to cut out your bottle openers? I watched the video but could T find it.
A 1/4" downshear bit called the Downtown Jenny. Link in the description
Been there, done that, messed up a bunch of stock. I think everyone has. Cool videos, but PLEASE keep your audio levels more consistent, your voice is VERY quiet, so I have to turn it way up, but then the music comes in SUPER LOUD, not great for headphones, or listening late night in an apartment. Keep it up, decent channel!
Trying my best! Thanks for watching
@@HamiltonDilbeck I loved the video, just trying to give constructive advice. The CONTENT is great, you're super fun to watch and the music is COOL, just needs to be toned down and your voice brought up. Keep up the cool videos!
What feeds, speeds, and depths are you running?
