What’s even crazier is that the owners didn’t format the drives before throwing those computers out. Tax machines can contain some info that you probably don’t want someone else to see.

The tray loading models use a much more well-thought out design so it rarely happens on those. The slot loading models were essentially built to be disposable and it hurts.

Even if selling it online is too much of a hastle, *at least* donate it to a trift store or something so that someone else can enjoy it. On the bright side, they did leave them out and away from the other trash, so they probably expected/wanted someone to come across the computers and possibly take them.
you don't need to worry about an imac g3 setting on fire, most of the time the flyback in the crt tends to go which just goes quietly and suddenly (basically one second the screen is on and working, then the next second it's gone black (or very very dark). now the imac g5 on the other hand... those fuckers get hot
Where did you guys get these items from trash I watched a video where a man found 70 inch TV in trash and he took it home repaired it and started using it since that day i have been looking every single trash area in my city to get one too but didn't find any except diapers and kitchen trash
it's funny... these are popular by "collection" or "retro" standards ... yet there are just so many out there and they are so bulky; if you don't want them (or if they're broken) it's hard to get rid of them! I think most just go to trash/recycling these days :(
@@kjcorderthere are super rare upgrades for that generation of iMac G3 to give it FireWire, a G4 processor, and even a Voodoo 2 GPU. The imac g5 on the other hand can only have the Ram upgraded
My first favorite computer... I had the key oard from this imac that i used all the way up to about 2 years ago.. it had usb on both sides on the keyboard and it had the same colors as the imac.. it was amazing keyboard..
I threw one of those out a while back. Rev A, so literally the first iMac G3. I would've kept it if anything on it worked. Refused to recognize any drive, CRT looked like garbage, piles of cracked plastic inside.

repaste the G5 they like to overheat, capacitors are also a problem, the Revision A G3 Imacs are basically bulletproof as they are fan-cooled, also new flyback transformers are easy to buy
it's a rev c imac, you can tell because no ir sensor on the front, otherwise functionally identical. also even if you repaste an imac g5, it still doesn't stop it from overheating. one common fix for the g5 was to just drill holes in the back of the case
One man's trash is another man's treasure. Really love it when my school dumps e-waste. They put it in the lobby for a few weeks and that's where you can get cool stuff. Most notably, I got 3 laptops out of it. Sadly, only one worked.
I was going to ask who just tosses out two working Macs, but then I remembered when my dad was a grabage man many many years ago, he brought home tons of stuff that people in the houses on Lake Michigan would just toss out for convience sake. I got GTA:SA like a year after it's release and about 2 dozen other PS2 games from an old couple whose son left the country. They had them sitting ontop of their garbage can, my dad consulted them about the games and told him they were garbage. My dad ran them back to the truck and bagged them up. This was like 05' - 06'... Imagine finsing a stack of PS5 games on someone trash can today.
It's typical problem of Apple. PowerPC Apples are not more supported and are kinda useless for daily use. That is why we see them throwing out and saw sometimes in recycle markets. I have one G3 in home, just keep it for fun. With G3 keyboard and mouse.

I personally would not plug the G3 in in a space like that, it's not uncommon for them to catch fire, and it has happened to me several times now.
