She is the ice Queen, the greatest. Surya, we appreciate you and your work, we don’t care what the judges thought.

She was never an ice princess because she was an Ice Queen. She should have never expereienced the racism and discrimination she faced in the Olympics. I'm so glad she is in a better place in life and I wish her all the love, happiness & peace in life. Thank you for your peak performances Sureya Bonaly!

Yes, Surya was ROBBED many times in figure skating. While she was skating, it was said, " she doesn't skate in a straight like the other skaters". "Surya's skating is not polished like the other skaters". Criticism after Criticism.

It was Surya’s artistry that caused the lower scores. Artistry is a big part of final marks. I don’t see race affecting final scores. Many Asians reached the top of the podium.

She should have been given medals because she went above and beyond in her skills as a female ice skater. I've yet to see another female perform a back-flip on ice that is commonly done by male ice skaters.

Such a shame she was robbed of the top spot in many competitions due to bigotry and bias. A very talented athlete and "artiste". Looking back at her performances I feel that she presented her skating with artistry and grace. She should have been given joint first at the 1994 World Championships in Japan, in my opinion.

I don't think the professional figure skating world truly repected her or her talent at that time. Many coaches and commentators publicly mentioned she didn't fit the "ice princess" mold and many viewed her as a sideshow attraction for the sport. Very Venus and Serena vibes. I always thought she was amazing. I was glued go the TV everytime she would hit the ice.

I remember watching the Nagano Olympics. She has been struggling bit with her jumps (she was injured). And the commentators were running her down. I was so mad, because I loved her... and then she did the backflip. The commentators said she only did it because she knew she wasn't gonna be invited to the gala :/ Years later I admire that she knew she was gonna lose it, so she decided to lose in style. Plus her performance was much more memorable than the winner's anyways.

She still looks so young! It’s strange that the same people that hated her in the 90s for no reason, are some of the same people who like her now. They see she’s a kind and friendly person. If only those same people would not wait 30 years to like her. For example, the hate they are directing at Simone, but when you tell them in the moment, that their hate IS NOT justified, they won’t accept it.
You can’t watch a Simone video, without the racist comments. But in about 30 yrs, they will agree that they shouldn’t have hated her. They hated Mohammed Ali and others the same way! If only Love could catchup with the Hate, and overtake it. The answer is to stop the hate NOW in real time, because we might not be here in 30 years.

The cruel remarks that former skater, Scott Hamilton made while he was the commentator for USA televisions networks. He criticized her for daring to perform a backflip. he criticized her mother was always being present and paying close attention to what was happening around Suraya. He had no kind words for her, and it way crystal clear why. Her parents and France can be very proud of her and she should be what skater should aspire to achieve. This is the first time that I have seen her interviewed and I like her even more.

Yes Surya was ROBBED many times when they scored her skating. They wanted to humiliate and stress her out so she would give up and stop skating. If one of the "ice princess" had created the backflip landing on ONE FOOT the judges would have accepted it with high scores.
