Lovely record of a great day worth me making a 6 HR round trip to be there. Lots of interesting buses in action, and a brief glimpse at 9.54 of me sat behind the driver videoing. Thanks for sharing
Superb video, Mike. Brought back all the times I travelled to school and around about in the 1960’s on buses just like this. I particularly recall the Willowbrook bodied Leylands. My uncle was foreman at the Midland Red (BMMO) garage in Rugby and we always used to go down as kids for the Sunday morning runs through the bus wash. Then across the road to the station to watch the trains.
That sounds a brilliant time you had back then Mark, I used to buy then Anywhere tickets (six shillings)on a Sunday because there would be more buses in the garages which you could get round in them days, Thank you Mark for enjoying my day with these great buses. Mike.
Made my day with this one Mike as the darned cold I had meant I missed this as well as the SVR diesel gala. Being a Coventry & Warwickshire lad I have many fond memories of the Midland red buses, my particular favourites being the DD Alexander body ones. Can't thank you enough for posting this.
Great to see so many old midland red buses. Growing up in Rugby I went to school courtesy of this wonderful company. We had a couple of "deckers" from time to time but they were limited to a number of low bridges. Super video Mike, Well done 🤓, stay safe 💙.
Thank you Tony, I had a very good day getting these great buses on film, and at the same time remembering my days getting the numbers mostly on Sundays at the bus garages around the Midlands in the early sixty's.
Thanks for putting this on here it was my first midland red day although I have been a couple of time in the summer now I can look back on what was a fantastic day
Midland Red based in Birmingham used to operate over a huge area, with the furthest places to the west Hereford and Shrewsbury, to north Stafford, Stoke, Derby and Nottingham, to the east Leicester and Peterborough, and the south, Northampton, Oxford and Gloucester.
I volunteered here for a couple of years 2019 - 2021 with a lot of my time being spent successfully recommissioning the Midland Red recovery Land rover 390FHA back to road worthiness. I have had pause the volunteering and prioritise my day job at the moment but hopefully will be back one day. Wythall is a fantastic place and I really enjoyed volunteering there.
Oh nice one Its Me, I just loved the Midland Red buses when I was a kid, I can't believe looking back how my parents let me travel all over the Midlands on a Anywhere ticket to visit the garages at the age of about 11 or 12 years old, amazing how our times have changed. Its great that we have this museum to remember our memories, thank you very much for your interest in my video. Regards Mike.
Good Job! I’ve probably travelled on all of those different models during my life here in Worcester, but my absolute Fave were the Black top Motorway Expresses that used to whisk us away to the Bright Lights of Brum, past the Hive of Activity that was Longbridge and the Huge Pubs by Selly Oak, then charging down the Highway Swinging into Digbeth bus station like it was on Rails. A thrilling 35 minutes if ever there was. 🏆🏅🙏🏻👍🏻
Yeah I too remember that service which I went on a few times, was it called the X44 service Donni I loved this bus company and didn't forget the motorway express's to London did reach 100 mph which was amazing speed for a coach all them years back. Thanks for watching and your comment. Mike.
LT bought some of these BMMO buses for their LT Sightseeing Tour. Wasn't sure I liked them as they looked out of place. Thet certainly make for interesting vehicles in their own environment. Must have been something to travel to other UK towns in the 50's/60's and see their own buses.
Were there several different shades of red used or is that just due to inaccurate restorations? I seem to remember they were all the same colour. The bus at 3:32 is a beautiful design.
Well yes these day there is a different shade of red to some of them, but in the early days there was no problem, I enjoyed getting the fleet numbers going round the garages at weekend, no H & S in them days. Thank you for watching my videos, well give the museum another go in 2023.
Interesting video on those lovely old buses Mike, nothing but admiration for the people who restore and keep these vehicles running.
Yeah they do such a amazing job to get them in this condition Bryan. Thanks for watching, Mike.
Like all buses of that erA

All I will say about Midland Red is there was no other company like them, I have seen some D9s in London in the past.

Whats that rectangular think on the windscreen of the fleet line ?
Don't know, but thank you for taking a look at this video.
Something a bit different from you Mike. Fascinating collection of buses though. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Many thanks Ben for having a look.
Not all red buses have London Transport on the side see!🕴
No I know, Midland Red where the kings of the road.
