Great video! I will most likely upgrade to 32gb ram and a 2 tb m.2. What about the warranty when disconnecting the battery or replacing the ssd & ram, especially with the razer elite warranty, in my case.
I've heard the SN850X runs rather hot. Are the temps on the SSD higher now? And do you think a 1.5mm Pad would work as well? I still have a small piece left (Gelid Ultimate).
Because razer put a large thermal pad on the base it transfers the heat away well so although it runs slightly hotter than the original Samsung it’s still well within spec. And if the gelid is soft enough it should fit fine by squishing into place as you screw the ssd down.
Excellent video. A couple of questions. Is this the 4060 model of the Razer Blade 14 that you upgraded? And what about the ssd enclosure that you used for the cloning? Would it be the same one used for the upgrading of the Razer Blade 16?
Thank you and yes this is the 4060 version. I have also done a dedicated blade 16 upgrade video too if it helps but yes you can also use that usbc m.2 caddy or if you want to save the money you can open the base, add the second ssd and clone it internally then open it again and move the ssd’s
In one of your previous video about the Razer Blade 15, you said to get the 2gb SSD drive x2 because the 4gb SSD won't be able to fit inside the slot, is there now a 4gb SSD drive that can fit in that slot or is the Razer Blade 14 a special case that have room for a 4gb SSD
the Razer Blade has more room in the slot to fit a double sided drive like the sn850x. I have found a single sided ssd that fits but it is much slower than the sn850x: Crucial P3 plus 4tb games drive: geni.us/WqAzy9C
Super video ! Could you please make the exact measurements of the visible screen (in mm)? There are still no screen protectors available for this laptop and I thought to find another one which is also 16:10 and use it or adjust it slightly to fit on this one. I wonder if a screen protector meant for the Asus Rog Zephyrus G14 (2022) which is also 16:10 would fit on this one. Thank you !
Do you have a thermal comparison before/after the upgrade by any chance? I’ve put 2x 990 Pros and that RAM kit in a Blade 16 and it seems to be running a lot hotter. 🤨
That’s interesting as I found the 990 pros to run cooler than the sn850x. I put 1 990 pro and a 4tb p3 plus in my blade 16. I think my palm rest is also a bit warmer (due to the second ssd near the palm rest I guess) but it’s not roasting hot
This is the exactly what my laptop needs. Just one question (excuse my ignorance) Does cloning the ssd affect the data from the origin disk? Should I make a backup first?
The best thing about cloning is it does an exact copy of your original ssd to the new ssd. The original ssd remains exactly the same as before so should you ever want to go back to the original ssd (if a drive ever fails or if you ever want to put the original drive back to sell the laptop)
Thanks for the great video. Do I need to upgrade the storage right away if I use the cloning tool? Specifically, will it be prohibitive if I upgrade the storage in the future when I have a lot of files on the original SSD? I just got my blade 14 yesterday and I want to upgrade the storage eventually but it’s expensive.
The joy of coning software is you can do it anytime you like and it brings all your files and programs to the new drive. Enjoy your laptop until you run out of space then do it, SSDs will likely be cheaper then anyway
i prefer a clean install of the operating system than cloning the stock installation because of potential malware, bloatware and unessentials clogging the space. just backup the drivers and use installers for the software you need.
Is this razer 14 2023 edition compatible with 96gb ram (2 of 48)? Could you recommend me any ram? And also about the ssd storage wich is the maximum allowed for the razer 14 and if you could recommend me one? Thank you very much and I hope you success with the channel!!
Do you think Razer Blade 14 will be a good option to run multiple VMs at the same time ? Or any other 14" options in the market do you recommend for run More VMs with higher RAM ?
this is perfect for VMs, just install a 66gb or 96gb kit and a decent sized SSD. The cpu is efficient and has 8 cores 16 threads. I use mine for VMs and video editing and have been really impressed by its performance especially given the size
hey mash, as a blade 14 2021 user, i've been questioning the default factory blade icc/icm colour profile; and it seems i'm not the only one. while it may look fine for gaming, i usually use an external 32 inch gaming monitor for that. viewing video or phots tend to look over saturated and inaccurate colour profile. any advice on how I may better tune the colour profile to my liking? thanks,
There is a couple of reasons. Firstly it is easily available in the U.K., the 5600mhz crucial has been difficult to get hold of. Secondly it has fast timings which I like, I believe the crucial is a bit slower. Lastly I have tested the fury in multiple intel and amd 2023 systems and have had no instability issues at all!
Is that the ryzen 6000 series? If so I think that is 4800mhz so although this ram would work fine and have good timings it might be worth saving a few $ getting a 4800mhz kit
Thanks for doing this! As someone who is a Razer user, is the warranty/ service/ longevity/ etc something to be concerned about? I bought a 23 blade 15 (as I mentioned on your other vid) and got concerned with every reddit user and microcenter/ bestbuy person telling me they are "expensive paperweights". I ended up pre-ordering the zenbook pro 14. Can you speak on Razers reliability?

@@MarioSpeedWagon that's good advice! How much is the bestbuy warranty? I'm leaning towards keeping my Asus due to size, but I've always loved the look and feel of Razers, unfortunately there aren't any local shops that carry the zenbook pro 14 for me to do a real build quality/ aesthetic comparison. If I was to get a razer it would have to be the blade 15 because even though I would prefer the new 14 the price is well over 3k after upgrading to 32gb ram and a 4tb ssd (which would have to happen) compared to 2600 for the zenbook pro 14 or 2600 for the razer blade 15 (I'll can put in an extra m.2 drive I have since there's an extra slot)
hi, thank you for your video, I have a question and hope you can answer me. I just noticed that the Razer website mentioned Razer 16 only support 5200mhz 64gb memory, it is weird because Razer 16 support 32gb memory in 5600mhz, do you know why and would you please test the Razer 16 support 64gb memory in 5600mhz or not, thank you.
Also a massive kudos to the USB 4 port. VERY few if any other devs are doing that this year with AMD laptops. Shame on you Lenovo, Dell and Asus. Razer have a winner here, but they seriously need to consider allowing a 4080 option, for the extra Vram if nothing else. 1600P is easy to go over 8GB in modern games. It's too low in 2023. If all you want to offer is an 8GB GPU in 2023 for all the modern games, then use a 1080P panel, not a QHD+ lol. I hope others push them into a 4080 offering. I'd actually consider this as my travel gamer and music creator if it had the 4080. For sure. I'd put just a simple single sided 2TB 980 in there though and leave the 32GB ram. Plenty for travel and portable music projects, but I still want top gaming performance, hence, 4080. The 4080 to 4090 is a very small difference in mobile. The 4060 and 4070 are much of a muchness. Where the big leap happens is the 4080 and that's the absolute sweet spot.
Yeah it’s weird the 16 is so so much more powerful yet I always use my 14. Another thing I love about the blade 14 is the lack of fan noise in low use (or general day to day work) the blade 16 spins it’s fans up all the time but the blade 14 stays quiet

@MashITTech aww that sucks, we have it here in Australia, it still only has the 90 watt power limit to the 4060 which sucks because the razer blade 14 2023 has the "full" theoretical 140 watt power limit
hey i have a question, i wanna buy the 16 inch 2023 razorblade with the rtx 4070 and 16 gb of ram and the i9 13th gen. is it possible to upgrade tha ram to 64 gb?
I got my razer 14 laptop, but I didn't get yet my 4TB hard drive and the usb-c ssd nvme dongle. Can I still start to use it and do my settings and later upgrade, or is it better to wait as the dump of the 1Tb harddrive with windows to the 4Tb can be unstable or not ?
The beauty of cloning a drive means all your data and programs are copied to the new drive so just enjoy using it with the 1tb now then clone over later. Also consider the new Samsung 990 pro 4tb I just tested as it runs much cooler, I just released a video on it
Too bad I didn't got that advice before :) I will stick to the WD 850x drive. I believe it is the same, at least, I won't notice any difference. Thanks a lot for your videos and useful tips !

@@MashITTech I tried everything you did and it all worked! I did buy the 2023 model g14 so I dropped in a 16gb ram stick and task manager is reading it as 32! Same with the ssd. THANK YOU!
I will say, as a final comment, them and their stupid 1TB SSD on 5 grand laptops. Roll eyes x infinity. It's 5.1 K here with 16Gb ram. 5.3K with 32. Max SSD 1TB which I suppose can go straight into an nvme portable enclosure. Razer's pricing is losing the plot though, I really believe that. The 18" 4090 is 8 and a half grand here, with 2x1TB ssd and 32GB ram. That's rich. I paid 7 even for my GT77 with 13980HX vs 13950HX in the Razer, 64GB vs 32, 4TB SSD vs 2TB, Mech keyboard vs, well not mech KB lol, 4K mini Led panel vs 1600P IPS, win 11 Pro vs Home, 27 month global warranty vs 12 month. Razer's pricing is nuts. Seriously. If Asus put a USB 4 port on the G14 I'd honestly save the cash and get that if I wanted a 14". I expected this to be 4K and thought that was high, but my jaw dropped when I saw over 5K. That's madness.
I'm wondering as well. Other machines with the Zen 4 HS chips do indeed support 2x48GB sticks, so I'm 90% convinced it'll work on the Blade 14 as well, but I'd love to have some reassurance from someone who can actually try it.
@@Peshyy actually I found a company that upgrades the 18, 16 and the new 14 inch to 96 gb of ram, they algo upgrade the ssd, they sell them on Newegg, though the 14 inch can only be upgraded through their company's website.
Hey Mash, do you think it possible to fit the 4TB SN850X into the 2021 Razer Blade do you think using this same approach of removing those felt pads and placing a thinner thermal pad?
I received my unit today! Very nice machine, but I realised how much I miss Advanced Optimus, which is a standard for the premium segment these days. I still can't believe they don't have it. Edit: Fan behavior improved with new unit
my fans aren't always on! mine is quite quiet in idle, are you in balanced or custom mode? And yes no advanced Optimus is a bummer, I switched mine to dedicated in BIOS
@@MashITTech So your fans are sometimes completely off, even if you have dedicated enabled in BIOS? Interesting, perhaps I have a strange unit, it has a strange noise on load, too. High frequency.
The SSD 👍🏼 the Ram 👎🏼 I’d like to try to find a 4TB that would fit the 2021. I wonder if the 4TB SN850X could fit the 2021 model with this same approach 🤔
When I upgraded the SSD in my Razer Blade 17, i followed the advice of a terrible RUclipsr, a real piece of crap, and cloned my SN850x and it worked, but I got slower speeds on benchmarks of that drive from cloning as opposed to going through a fresh windows install

Yes, this was my biggest gripe as it meant I couldn’t use it for work as I often have VMs running plus multi stream 4K editing eats ram!

Anyone know if nvidia are planning on releasing a 4070 ti mobile, and it would be absolutely insane if it had 10 gigs of v-ram to go along with it for that little bit extra power
Also are you going to do a review on the new alienware x14 or not??
I want to! Dell won’t release x14 r2 in the U.K. so I can’t review it. I hate dell sometimes
@MashITTech aww that sucks, we have it here in Australia, it still only has the 90 watt power limit to the 4060 which sucks because the razer blade 14 2023 has the "full" theoretical 140 watt power limit
Alienware X14 R2 review please...
Dell have decided not to bother selling it in the U.K. so I can’t get hold of it to review 😢
Can you use that same cloning software for other brand disks?
no, but other brands also usually have their own cloning software
Cloning also clones the Windows license?
Windows license is now tied to the hardware (motherboard) so the machine stays activated 👍
hey i have a question, i wanna buy the 16 inch 2023 razorblade with the rtx 4070 and 16 gb of ram and the i9 13th gen.
is it possible to upgrade tha ram to 64 gb?
Yes, get the fury kit I listed, it is by far the fastest I have tested so far 👍
I am trying to clone using WD Acronis software and a SN850X inside. I am able to see the recognized drive and I can format it, however, I can´t clone it, it says I need to add a WD digital drive first. Any clue ?
When you say sn850x inside, do you mean inside the laptop or a caddy? What caddy are you using?
if Razer gets a mechanical keyboard and it will be perfect
Dont give them ideas to make their laptop more expensive
What software should I use to clone to a Samsung Evo 980 Pro? I don't have a WD SSD. Ty
Acronis true image.
Samsung provide free cloning software on their website
will everything in this video work on my g14? I have the same exact ssd brand and caddy brand.
yes for the SSD only the ram is different as last years G14 has 1 ddr5 ram slot and this years has none
@@MashITTech I tried everything you did and it all worked! I did buy the 2023 model g14 so I dropped in a 16gb ram stick and task manager is reading it as 32! Same with the ssd. THANK YOU!
Wonder if it bricks and just like splashes an end screen like in videogames on the monitor. lol.
😂
Will this work with the Razer Blade 14 2021 3070 model?
Ram is not upgradable on the 2021 but I can check if the 4tb will fit for you
I will say, as a final comment, them and their stupid 1TB SSD on 5 grand laptops.
Agreed especially with how cheap ssd’s are these days!
is the ram upgradeable in the 2022 models or just 23?
only this years 2023 model
Can the ram be upgraded to 96gb?
I'm wondering as well. Other machines with the Zen 4 HS chips do indeed support 2x48GB sticks, so I'm 90% convinced it'll work on the Blade 14 as well, but I'd love to have some reassurance from someone who can actually try it.
@@Peshyy actually I found a company that upgrades the 18, 16 and the new 14 inch to 96 gb of ram, they algo upgrade the ssd, they sell them on Newegg, though the 14 inch can only be upgraded through their company's website.
Not to brag but my Blade 16 has 96GB ddr5
that's not bragging, that's amazing! where did you find a 64gb ddr5 module?
@@MashITTech It's actually 2x 48GB modules. 64GB modules don't exist :D
Hey Mash, do you think it possible to fit the 4TB SN850X into the 2021 Razer Blade do you think using this same approach of removing those felt pads and placing a thinner thermal pad?
yes, I am 99% sure it fits but very snugly from my memory but I no longer have my 2021 to double check this
I received my unit today!
Very nice machine, but I realised how much I miss Advanced Optimus, which is a standard for the premium segment these days. I still can't believe they don't have it.
Edit: Fan behavior improved with new unit
It’s also much louder than last years model! Really a lot. Blade 14 2022 was like 43 dB on Balanced. Now it’s 51.
my fans aren't always on! mine is quite quiet in idle, are you in balanced or custom mode? And yes no advanced Optimus is a bummer, I switched mine to dedicated in BIOS
@@MashITTech How are your fans on gaming load? Do you have a slight whine?
@@MashITTech So your fans are sometimes completely off, even if you have dedicated enabled in BIOS? Interesting, perhaps I have a strange unit, it has a strange noise on load, too. High frequency.
No whine at all on mine. I am going to double check my idle fan noise as my office has some noise. Will turn everything off and listen to it
Can i change it on the Razer Blade 14 from 2021
The SSD 👍🏼 the Ram 👎🏼
I’d like to try to find a 4TB that would fit the 2021. I wonder if the 4TB SN850X could fit the 2021 model with this same approach 🤔
Can Razer 2022 3070ti update the same way?
Ssd yes, ram no as it’s soldered on
Can someone tell me if this upgrade works for Razer Blade 14" (2022) | RZ09-0427x?
The SSD yes, the RAM no :( 2021 and 2022 Blade 14 has soldered ram
I put in 96gb RAM and a 4tb Gen 5 SSD
well done mate, what speeds are you seeing on the gen 5 drive?
When I upgraded the SSD in my Razer Blade 17, i followed the advice of a terrible RUclipsr, a real piece of crap, and cloned my SN850x and it worked, but I got slower speeds on benchmarks of that drive from cloning as opposed to going through a fresh windows install
My dream😢
Yeah, this certainly isn’t cheap 😢
Razer Blade should not be a laptop, unless you want your hairy 'snake' to be burnt
I have the same setup on my Blade 14 and M1 Max, to be completely honest they both get just as hot and loud when editing videos.
