Jay Tate Well, Karambit Is one of the most deadliest male weapon. This is not about slashes your opponent & Injured them. I talked about Injured & killed them in 5 second in the spot. Cz 1 cut just make your opponent bleeding, but with 2 or 3 cuts that will make sure they will dead as soon as possible.

A lot of disciplines actually teach not to always rely on the retention ring because in a combative scenario, there have been many cases of fingers getting degloved, or even PULLED OFF by skilled fighters who disarm the karambit user.. In a reverse grip, it's harder to do disarm (while still possible), but in a forward grip, your range of mobility and variety in offense is limited with a karambit. This makes it easier, especially for a skilled figher, to disarm you, potentially wreaking havoc on your fingers, as a result.
Doug Marcaida has talked about this before. It can allow someone to break your finger, especially the pinky, in certain situations. He teaches to not insert your index finger all the way (just to the middle of the second digit) so it can be quickly removed if necessary.
So, the original Indonesian Karambit was a fixed blade, sharp on both sides. It was held with the blade underneath, the ring on the pointer-finger acting as a knuckle-duster. The fixed blade, sharp on both sides, is what made it so deadly. Also, it is a martial arts weapon. There is specific training that goes with it. The blade can be as short as 1 centimetre. The one I have is a traditional one that's double edged and only 1.5 inches in blade length. You understand why it's still deadly despite its size when you hold it in your hands. It's nearly impossible to even see you have a blade especially at speed. It's a weapon that uses finesse, deception and surprise as well as its ability to control using its claw like design as it's main strengths.

I think you're right, at least about running being the answer. People are going to try to come up with specific scenarios, like "What if a crazy murderer ambushes you while you're wheeling your quadriplegic infant and amputee wife through the park? Huh? Is running still the answer? Yeah, you didn't think about that.", but don't buy into it. There are people out there who'll rob you for $20, so your $250 blade is more like a Rolex than a deterrent. As for knives being scarier than guns...that's a different story. Everyone tends to think that getting shot in the head is instant death, but it took Lincoln almost 10 hours to die after he was shot in the head. What a nightmare. I'll take relatively quick exsanguination over writhing around in agony for hours on end, thanks.

Scowler If it wasn't clear in the video, the karambit was weaponised with the mentality of "how can I put holes in this dude before he realizes that I can put holes in him?" The main benefit that convinces me to go for the karambit more is that you have the option for nonlethal (didn't say non-crippling) while daggers are more risky for that, and then the ring to make it REALLY hard to wrestle from your hand. Karambits lack penetration. Any dirtbag wearing just a leather jacket is automatically going to be able to ignore most of your strikes. Karambit is a great weapon for when you rigorously train in CQC, but the average joe schmoe is going to want a stiletto, or a Ka-Bar. Just easier all around. Another thing worth mentioning is that straight knives offer more reach. If I see someone with a karambit my instinct will automatically say to keep my distance and use quick stabs. Abuse the reach. Karambits are exclellent against flesh but are terrible against armor of really any kind. If someone is wearing a leather jacket or a hidden carry kevlar vest, you will not be able to cut across the midsection. You will have to do more risky slashes at the throat or the thighs. The throat is the most protected body part as the chin blocks it and most of the time someone will not allow another with a blade to get to their neck. Keep your open handed arm in front of you like a shield and your arm with the blade by your hip. Kind of like a Spartan with the shield and spear. Then your opponent cannot easily get your weapon and will be forced on the offensive. If they strike your arm, well I feel bad for my arm but will feel even worse for them when I sting them right back in the lung or in the intestines. Karambits are better than noobs with knives or thugs with fists. If you want an edge over karambits look at stilettos. Just stab and walk away. I always keep one in my boot or the inside of my jacket.

Growing a channel is very hard. You can do it easy if you are rich and can pay for advertising, own all the expensive editing software and HD high end cameras, hire a cameraman etc. I have over 5000 subs and even getting them to watch my videos is hard. Many sub but then do not watch all the videos.
For any kids or new guys wondering along pay closer attention to the wrist and joint locks. Those are a lot more applicable than the karambit itself. Also remember to train slow and steady, but when sparring to use full force of application. If you pay attention to the video at the start his training partner, for demonstration "goes with" the techniques. Make sure your partner does not, this will help you understand applications of force as opposed to believing your oppent will just go with the flow
For real the karambit was initially a tool for farming herbs, hay and fruits, and to use in tailoring, only after, it became the weapon we all know. It's a very versatile tool with the plus it can be a deadly weapon.
66 years old after seeing this reinforces the need for me to have a gun for a knife fight. Have to be prepaired though for any situation so will be reviewing these helpful techniques. Good video!
All training is just that training. Few things go simply by the books in an actual fight. The thing is if you don’t have the training you can not adjust and flow with the situation. Your block fails, your cut , what now , stay in the fight adjust go on offense before you bleed out. You have to have the basics to draw from so you don’t panic when it all goes wrong. The more knowledge the more flexibility. It’s all about flow. From one move to the next . Strike , slash , cut move, block , defend, pivot, attack again. Yes you will probably get cut in a Knife fight . That’s Better than stabbed in the back trying to run away. The karambit is great knife for defense / offense . I use a fixed blade karambit opposite side of my gun . It’s a primary back up if my gun hand gets pinned, if I’m defending my gun from a take away , if I’m down and can’t reach my gun etc. It works natural with my striking style. Just because I’m holding a knife doesn’t mean that kicks strikes ,Grappling ( BJJ) , or guns , are off the table.

I think it's more about giving a simple, objective, clinical approach to it. They do this for gun training too. Like, "Yes, if you have to use this, someone will probably die. But it's better for you to kill in self-defense than die. So here's how to use it."
When you practice everyday this talk is normal. Especially when you are in a weapons course. You don't want to cut a hand and hope he quits. He might have a chance to pull a gun with other hand claim self defense and your dead He gets good lawyer throws away knife he pulled to esculate situation. Claims your the aggressor has wounds to prove and gets off with your murder it happens. Stop that by preperation. Ensure everywhere you go that there is an attacker ready to come at you. Kidding aside but what gun could you count on for 175 at a pawn shop. Not trolling at all. I have just never seen one worth your life at a pawn shop near me for 175 maybe 350 always a hipoint or Jennings. I carry my karambits. But also a glock 23. A really trained knife fighter especially with karambits can get to you withing 21 feet if you have a firearm Doug Marcaida made a video proving that. They never wield knife until to late.
Can’t carry a gun at work wich is why I carry a folding karambit. It’s a second choice for me because I can get away with having a pocket knife. It’s a last resort for me. But if you want a decent firearm you’ll be spending more than $175 for it.
Almost every move you bypass the wide open artery rich bicep when Karambits are tailor made to attack the bicep in a pulling motion. The head of the bicep is fertile ground for that K to bite in and dig as it’s pulled damned near severing the bicep with an easy stroke.
There's an attitude to use this weapon. Never let the enemy know that you hold karambit in your hand. And when you attacking, dont let your enemy see the karambit. And the original karambit is sharp on both sides.
Would you please do a video on "sentry removals"? I know it's not typical for someone to need it, but given terrorists taking buildings over & home invasions going in a similar way (at least near me), I figure some finer points on getting someone out of the way of the exit or getting their weapon could be necessary.
Its *Maphilindo Silat,and cool. Silat is amazing,I have been trained, quite decently, by some people I know who trained over in Indonesia or other places. No a pro,but definitely a good,effective,martial artist,I really focus on the karambit. I dont really know which of the variants of Silat I fall under really,as I mainly train to master certain locks and holds,and how to get out of them,and am trying to master the karambit. I use a Bastinelli Kalinou.
Also: if you aren't capable of going to an extended blade easily, it is better to keep the blade above your hand and put your pinkie in the hole instead of you pointer finger because you will get more force that way
Thanks, I have the Lionsteel LEone Karambit which is a little on the big side for my med hands. It is also aluminum which is a little slippery. Extemely well made and reliable though. I carry it on my weakside with my handgun.

@@thatkid5343 In a real fight the opponent isn't going to keep his hand hanging out there for you to get fancy. He will instinctively pull back and you will likely get your fingers cut off when you try to grab any part of his arm or hand. People don't make single thrusts or slashes and hang out there for you to do your stuff. It is best to keep your target areas as far away from his weapon as possible until there is no other choice if you want to survive. And I know he has talked about that in other videos. Some of that stuff might work if you are lucky, are in a clinch where you can realistically grab a limb, the guy is threatening you and not actually cutting or thrusting yet, or if there is just no other defense option and you have to try it to survive. You don't normally see this kind of stuff in unrehearsed free sparring where the other guy wants to win as much as you do and is going full speed. They should be trained as last ditch moves and trained realistically where you have no idea what the opponent is going to do and he doesn't stand still and feed you single moves. These kind of videos should always end with free sparring/attacks rather than showing you only optimal conditions. Pressure test everything you train to do as realistically as possible or don't do it. And I believe this should be trained since a lot of attacks will come out of nowhere and you will be very lucky to even get your weapon out before getting seriously injured. So training at very close quarters where you have no choice but to use your arms and hands to defend (especially when there is no way to evade and escape his blade, like up against a wall in a narrow alley or in a car) is necessary for good knife defense, just not as your main defense when face to face and you can keep distance and keep your targets far away from him.
So, I've experienced this myself while testing, and noticed you encounter this problem around 10:08, if they grab your wrist, or close to, it's extremely difficult to get that karambit blade around their arm. I think he let you get that blade around to show off the effectiveness of succession with that move, but what about when you don't succeed?
I think you just need a second karambit. Seriously though, the single sided folders are a joke. You need a serated blade with a hook on the other end (not for waving it open, but for ripping out tendons and ligaments and arteries and fish guts). This is just a karambit knockoff due to legal restrictions. Having a duel edge means that your wrist cannot be controlled in a safe way by the opponent. Once you have disabled their dominant hand, they will not be much of a fight.
@@refiner2317 No im ambidextrous. One has never cut anything while the other is older and is well used. its sharp as a razor but one left one for right. Two cuts the aggressor doesn't have chance of another attack. That is a good idea maybe I throw him one so he has a chance to grab it pull my glock 23 out. Whichever works. Kidding aside I know how to use them very well. I have a set of trainers also. You don't always have the advantage of getting to your left or right in every circumstance. The situation isnt always in your favor. The way for it to be Is preperation and training. When you think you are done training train some more learning the proper way to use karambit. It is an awesome tool. Violent attracts are usually never planned or poorly conducted against a well trained person a bad guy with his weapon has no chance. If you are prepared and properly trained with practice regularly in 21 feet or less you don't need a firearm . de escalation of situation covered. My family or self are safe.

When you're getting stabbed with a knife, are you going to stop and wonder whether it was made in China, Italy, Japan, or the US? I'm not. Don't get me wrong: I'm all Gung Ho for the American Way. But just because it's not a $100 American knife doesn't mean that it can't be useful and very effective when you need it. Quality only counts for so much.....what is between your ears is what matters.

These are great principles when using the weapon. Of course in a real situation many variables can change some of the applicability of these techniques, however you must adapt to the situation your in and be able to adjust one move may not work in every situation. Sometimes you have to take a cut to the arm to get that finishing move on your opponent. Meditation has helped me a lot with preparation for a possible scenario like this and has taken my situational awareness to the next level. +Stylin' and Racially Profilin' much larger ring with g10. Works much better than the fox for extended grip. Emerson wave feature has more grab to it. I have both so I'm not biased.
+Stylin' and Racially Profilin' a few other points. The Emerson uses a proven blade steel and the fox is a mystery steel. So it could be cheap Chinese stuff the liners on the fox are steel Whereas the Emerson are titanium liners. Emerson has some of the best lock up in the industry. Nothing is wrong with a fox if you can't afford an Emerson. But one shouldn't try and knock something and say an inferior product is better just because he/she can't afford it.
I think the worst part about large blade karambits, is that because of flesh play, the blade always gets stuck in sinew or guts. The worst part about expensive and fancy named knives is having to throw them away or destroy them to get rid of the evidence. The worst thing about the extended grip; it's the sound of the holders fingers breaking...always gives me the shivers

My question would be about the liner lock ive been burned by those before having a blade close on my hand how well does that liner lock hold up to the kind of pressure youll apply while slashing? Seems like youd be risking taking yourself outve the fight by maiming your knife hand
Emersons are great Karambits, but ive always favored the Fox Knives brand. they are still quite pricey, but as much as the Emerson line, i have an Emerson Super Karambit, and it was my favorite until i got hold of a Fox FX-479. after that i fell in love with Fox Karambits, i like them so much more i went and bought the FX-598 fixed blade Karambit, and im thinking of picking up an FX-599 which is the most popular. if your a lover of Karambits like i am, i strongly suggest trying out the ones made by Fox you wont be disappointed. the Karambits made by Fox im told were developed in Italy specifically to be issued to the Italian Special Forces when they 1st came out, not sure if thats 100% true but ive heard that before. i tend to believe it considering Karambits in my opinion are 1 of the best fighting knives ever made along with push daggers.
After learning the use of karambits in Kali Martial arts I've never used a another type of blade it offers impact and deadly techniques I never leave home without it also trained with Doug Marcida for a couple of months in New York several years ago invaluable to say the least and carry the Emerson and Fox to this day I abdomen carry opposite my wallet Thank You Sir May I Have Another 👍
Differences in size are to fit the hands properly - which is imperative. The Emerson super karambit is for L/XL glove size. Also, it's not flat ground, rather, a mix of a saber and chisel grind.
Hy ! Is the karambit effective hitting in the extended grip ? I have tried it on a training session, the knife slash seems very weak ( due to the fact that the knife is only on one finger ) on the punching bag, maybe I am not doing the grip properly.

Sometimes that will work. I say do that 1st but, if you have a loved one or a kid that you have to protect; you have to do what you have to do.

The main benefit that convinces me to go for the karambit more is that you have the option for nonlethal (didn't say non-crippling) while daggers are more risky for that, and then the ring to make it REALLY hard to wrestle from your hand. Karambits lack penetration. Any dirtbag wearing just a leather jacket is automatically going to be able to ignore most of your strikes. Karambit is a great weapon for when you rigorously train in CQC, but the average joe schmoe is going to want a stiletto, or a Ka-Bar. Just easier all around. Another thing worth mentioning is that straight knives offer more reach. If I see someone with a karambit my instinct will automatically say to keep my distance and use quick stabs. Abuse the reach. Karambits are exclellent against flesh but are terrible against armor of really any kind. If someone is wearing a leather jacket or a hidden carry kevlar vest, you will not be able to cut across the midsection. You will have to do more risky slashes at the throat or the thighs. The throat is the most protected body part as the chin blocks it and most of the time someone will not allow another with a blade to get to their neck. Keep your open handed arm in front of you like a shield and your arm with the blade by your hip. Kind of like a Spartan with the shield and spear. Then your opponent cannot easily get your weapon and will be forced on the offensive. If they strike your arm, well I feel bad for my arm but will feel even worse for them when I sting them right back in the lung or in the intestines.
Karambits are better than noobs with knives or thugs with fists. If you want an edge over karambits look at stilettos. Just stab and walk away. I always keep one in my boot or the inside of my jacket.

I’m suprise I haven’t caught your channel sooner. As a person trying to grow a RUclips channel I can appreciate the balance it takes to produce good videos. You have great content on edc and the martial art which is what I’m aiming for. Keep up with the videos.
Growing a channel is very hard. You can do it easy if you are rich and can pay for advertising, own all the expensive editing software and HD high end cameras, hire a cameraman etc. I have over 5000 subs and even getting them to watch my videos is hard. Many sub but then do not watch all the videos.
I love a knife w the wave feature. Also the retention ring makes my movements fluid
For any kids or new guys wondering along pay closer attention to the wrist and joint locks. Those are a lot more applicable than the karambit itself. Also remember to train slow and steady, but when sparring to use full force of application. If you pay attention to the video at the start his training partner, for demonstration "goes with" the techniques. Make sure your partner does not, this will help you understand applications of force as opposed to believing your oppent will just go with the flow

For real the karambit was initially a tool for farming herbs, hay and fruits, and to use in tailoring, only after, it became the weapon we all know. It's a very versatile tool with the plus it can be a deadly weapon.
My karambit is actually very useful as a utility knife
66 years old after seeing this reinforces the need for me to have a gun for a knife fight. Have to be prepaired though for any situation so will be reviewing these helpful techniques. Good video!

All training is just that training. Few things go simply by the books in an actual fight. The thing is if you don’t have the training you can not adjust and flow with the situation. Your block fails, your cut , what now , stay in the fight adjust go on offense before you bleed out. You have to have the basics to draw from so you don’t panic when it all goes wrong. The more knowledge the more flexibility. It’s all about flow. From one move to the next . Strike , slash , cut move, block , defend, pivot, attack again. Yes you will probably get cut in a Knife fight . That’s Better than stabbed in the back trying to run away. The karambit is great knife for defense / offense . I use a fixed blade karambit opposite side of my gun . It’s a primary back up if my gun hand gets pinned, if I’m defending my gun from a take away , if I’m down and can’t reach my gun etc. It works natural with my striking style. Just because I’m holding a knife doesn’t mean that kicks strikes ,Grappling ( BJJ) , or guns , are off the table.

When you practice everyday this talk is normal. Especially when you are in a weapons course. You don't want to cut a hand and hope he quits. He might have a chance to pull a gun with other hand claim self defense and your dead He gets good lawyer throws away knife he pulled to esculate situation. Claims your the aggressor has wounds to prove and gets off with your murder it happens. Stop that by preperation. Ensure everywhere you go that there is an attacker ready to come at you. Kidding aside but what gun could you count on for 175 at a pawn shop. Not trolling at all. I have just never seen one worth your life at a pawn shop near me for 175 maybe 350 always a hipoint or Jennings. I carry my karambits. But also a glock 23. A really trained knife fighter especially with karambits can get to you withing 21 feet if you have a firearm Doug Marcaida made a video proving that. They never wield knife until to late.
Can’t carry a gun at work wich is why I carry a folding karambit. It’s a second choice for me because I can get away with having a pocket knife. It’s a last resort for me. But if you want a decent firearm you’ll be spending more than $175 for it.

Almost every move you bypass the wide open artery rich bicep when Karambits are tailor made to attack the bicep in a pulling motion. The head of the bicep is fertile ground for that K to bite in and dig as it’s pulled damned near severing the bicep with an easy stroke.

There's an attitude to use this weapon. Never let the enemy know that you hold karambit in your hand. And when you attacking, dont let your enemy see the karambit. And the original karambit is sharp on both sides.

Its *Maphilindo Silat,and cool. Silat is amazing,I have been trained, quite decently, by some people I know who trained over in Indonesia or other places. No a pro,but definitely a good,effective,martial artist,I really focus on the karambit. I dont really know which of the variants of Silat I fall under really,as I mainly train to master certain locks and holds,and how to get out of them,and am trying to master the karambit. I use a Bastinelli Kalinou.

Also: if you aren't capable of going to an extended blade easily, it is better to keep the blade above your hand and put your pinkie in the hole instead of you pointer finger because you will get more force that way

@@thatkid5343 In a real fight the opponent isn't going to keep his hand hanging out there for you to get fancy. He will instinctively pull back and you will likely get your fingers cut off when you try to grab any part of his arm or hand. People don't make single thrusts or slashes and hang out there for you to do your stuff. It is best to keep your target areas as far away from his weapon as possible until there is no other choice if you want to survive. And I know he has talked about that in other videos.
Some of that stuff might work if you are lucky, are in a clinch where you can realistically grab a limb, the guy is threatening you and not actually cutting or thrusting yet, or if there is just no other defense option and you have to try it to survive. You don't normally see this kind of stuff in unrehearsed free sparring where the other guy wants to win as much as you do and is going full speed. They should be trained as last ditch moves and trained realistically where you have no idea what the opponent is going to do and he doesn't stand still and feed you single moves. These kind of videos should always end with free sparring/attacks rather than showing you only optimal conditions.
Pressure test everything you train to do as realistically as possible or don't do it. And I believe this should be trained since a lot of attacks will come out of nowhere and you will be very lucky to even get your weapon out before getting seriously injured. So training at very close quarters where you have no choice but to use your arms and hands to defend (especially when there is no way to evade and escape his blade, like up against a wall in a narrow alley or in a car) is necessary for good knife defense, just not as your main defense when face to face and you can keep distance and keep your targets far away from him.

So, I've experienced this myself while testing, and noticed you encounter this problem around 10:08, if they grab your wrist, or close to, it's extremely difficult to get that karambit blade around their arm. I think he let you get that blade around to show off the effectiveness of succession with that move, but what about when you don't succeed?

I think you just need a second karambit.
Seriously though, the single sided folders are a joke. You need a serated blade with a hook on the other end (not for waving it open, but for ripping out tendons and ligaments and arteries and fish guts). This is just a karambit knockoff due to legal restrictions. Having a duel edge means that your wrist cannot be controlled in a safe way by the opponent.
Once you have disabled their dominant hand, they will not be much of a fight.

@@refiner2317 No im ambidextrous. One has never cut anything while the other is older and is well used. its sharp as a razor but one left one for right. Two cuts the aggressor doesn't have chance of another attack.
That is a good idea maybe I throw him one so he has a chance to grab it pull my glock 23 out. Whichever works. Kidding aside I know how to use them very well. I have a set of trainers also. You don't always have the advantage of getting to your left or right in every circumstance. The situation isnt always in your favor. The way for it to be Is preperation and training. When you think you are done training train some more learning the proper way to use karambit. It is an awesome tool.
Violent attracts are usually never planned or poorly conducted against a well trained person a bad guy with his weapon has no chance. If you are prepared and properly trained with practice regularly in 21 feet or less you don't need a firearm . de escalation of situation covered. My family or self are safe.

For every block there’s a reverse which the enemy will use against you. So getting into a knife fight with a expert will lead to a serious cut or death. These are great principles when using the weapon. Of course in a real situation many variables can change some of the applicability of these techniques, however you must adapt to the situation your in and be able to adjust one move may not work in every situation. Sometimes you have to take a cut to the arm to get that finishing move on your opponent. Meditation has helped me a lot with preparation for a possible scenario like this and has taken my situational awareness to the next level. Keep your warrior spirt strong and keep fighting life’s everyday battles

+Stylin' and Racially Profilin' much larger ring with g10. Works much better than the fox for extended grip. Emerson wave feature has more grab to it. I have both so I'm not biased.

Whereas the Emerson are titanium liners. Emerson has some of the best lock up in the industry. Nothing is wrong with a fox if you can't afford an Emerson. But one shouldn't try and knock something and say an inferior product is better just because he/she can't afford it.

I think the worst part about large blade karambits, is that because of flesh play, the blade always gets stuck in sinew or guts.
The worst part about expensive and fancy named knives is having to throw them away or destroy them to get rid of the evidence.

My question would be about the liner lock ive been burned by those before having a blade close on my hand how well does that liner lock hold up to the kind of pressure youll apply while slashing? Seems like youd be risking taking yourself outve the fight by maiming your knife hand
Emersons are great Karambits, but ive always favored the Fox Knives brand. they are still quite pricey, but as much as the Emerson line, i have an Emerson Super Karambit, and it was my favorite until i got hold of a Fox FX-479. after that i fell in love with Fox Karambits, i like them so much more i went and bought the FX-598 fixed blade Karambit, and im thinking of picking up an FX-599 which is the most popular. if your a lover of Karambits like i am, i strongly suggest trying out the ones made by Fox you wont be disappointed. the Karambits made by Fox im told were developed in Italy specifically to be issued to the Italian Special Forces when they 1st came out, not sure if thats 100% true but ive heard that before. i tend to believe it considering Karambits in my opinion are 1 of the best fighting knives ever made along with push daggers.
After learning the use of karambits in Kali Martial arts I've never used a another type of blade it offers impact and deadly techniques I never leave home without it also trained with Doug Marcida for a couple of months in New York several years ago invaluable to say the least and carry the Emerson and Fox to this day I abdomen carry opposite my wallet Thank You Sir May I Have Another 👍

Differences in size are to fit the hands properly - which is imperative. The Emerson super karambit is for L/XL glove size.
Also, it's not flat ground, rather, a mix of a saber and chisel grind.
Hy ! Is the karambit effective hitting in the extended grip ? I have tried it on a training session, the knife slash seems very weak ( due to the fact that the knife is only on one finger ) on the punching bag, maybe I am not doing the grip properly.
