Green apatite genuine is a definite must have color for me! I love olive green, quinacridone coral, Naples yellow, hematite genuine for landscapes, quinacridone gold, lavender for shadows and hematite genuine to darken any color.
Oops I messed up. The last color is neutral tint, not the hematite genuine I mentioned earlier. Neutral tint can be added to any color to darken the pigment slightly. It’s amazing!
So much fun to see you going through these and hear you talk about them! Thank you for that! One suggestion for you: Give Opera Pink a chance! It is one of the most fun colors to mix with. I love experimenting with it with yellows and blues to see what happens. In an 80::20 mix of Lemon Yellow with Opera Pink, you can get some wonderful results! Hoping all is well! Cheers! ~ Mark
Thank you, and I really love Opera Pink; usually in its pure form but I will definitely try out some of those mixes you suggested! Much appreciated advice....I hope you're well too. 😄
Daniel Smith’s Cascade Green would be good in your pallet. It’s such a beautiful colour and produces lovely effects. Good to see your channel growing Becky!
I never get tired of swatching videos haha! I definitely see what you mean about a couple of the colors being really light/faded, most of them are soo vibrant though! I’m glad to see you’ve been slowly but surely organizing all your paints 😆
They're all done now, thankfully! Most colours are really vibrant but there are a couple of weaker ones which I probably wouldn't get again. 15 ml takes forever to use though!
Love getting the "ugliest color"! I'm always amazed at how I learn to love colors that I originally thought were ugly. I do a lot of landscapes and every color has a purpose :) I've also learned that the properties of a color are often more important than the hue, i.e. some colors mix beautifully on paper, others keep their own identities and create beautiful natural textures. You have so many of my fav DS paints, but Quin Coral, Undersea Green and Indigo are some worth adding. Thanks for sharing your collection!
Thank you! I think Quin Coral will be a definite as I have wanted it for a while now. The German Green Raw Umber goes into the Ugly but Useful category, lol! And ugly things need love too 😁
Haha I had idea for a video using it which hasn't eventuated, but one of these days I might actually finish it. But ugly as it is, it is a surprisingly useful earth tone. 😂
@@nadeaner.cowley513 That's me....I will quite often pick the ugliest thing in any given collection because I feel sorry for it. You should see some of the hideous trophies I come home with from charity shops!
Indanthrone blue is a fantastic color, I also love quin burnt sienna, imperial purple, cobalt teal, pthalo green blue shade, Indian red, goethite, cobalt turquoise
Thank you for your suggestions! Indanthrone blue is in my collection, and I also really love it. In fact, it was one of the first D.S paints I ever chose.
@@BeckyTregear yes! I recently started making swatch cards from each color, and sap green from Dan Smith and sap green from shinhan are such different colors!
I learned from another RUclipsr that you can take out the half pants that you’ve got in there and actually pull out the metal holders that hold the half pans, and your left with just a flat sheet of metal that you can have as an insert, and you can fit a whole extra row of half pants it was on Miranda Watsons RUclips it’s a game changer
My first choice of DS’s colour is Green Apatite Genuine, I filled in every single pallet that I have. Also, Cascade green is a beautiful colour and pretty useful.
Hahaha I know the feeling. I used to have them in containers and they were always in a jumbled mess. They're much easier to find now they're all in a single drawer unit. 😆
There is something so satisfying about an organized and clean palette. Most of the colors I was going to recommend, you already have except Cascade green , which has blue in it and undersea green, which is more olive green. Also, for your primatek palette, you might like purpurite , which is a dusky sort of purple. It is somewhere between a mineral violet and a perylene violet. Oto Kano has a video on purpurite you can check out. Watch you soon😎
You can also mix purpurite yourself with manganese violet and lunar black as they are the separate pigments that result from processing the mineral. Purpurite just skipped the separation step.
I will probably replace Lemon Yellow with Hansa Yellow Light in the future, but I need to use it all up first (which takes forever, lol). That's actually Daniel Smith's Titanium White watercolour! It isn't as opaque as a gouache but is actually quite good, and I use it more for mixing colours into pastel shades, rather than for white highlights. ☺️
@@BeckyTregear , one of my favorite mixings for greens is DS’s Hansa Yellow Light with Winsor & Newton’s Payne’s Gray. Especially for glazing technics.
@@MrFabriciusalmeida That sounds like a really interesting mix! Now I think about it, in the old palette there IS a half pan of white gouache, and that one is by M.Graham. It's a really good one, and I would assume very lightfast. Pretty sure it is titanium white as well, but in a more opaque form.
@@BeckyTregear , thank you so much, Becky! I will definitely check out that gouache because it seems great for on the go. Currently I carry with me a 20ml tube of Royal Talens white gouache and a few white pens such as Poscas and gel pens. 😊
@@BeckyTregear can recommend! I was a bit too disabled to stick with classes, but I'm still hoping I can find a kiln locally up here in Sydney that will fire things for me. It's such fun! All the good bits about playing with mud, and you end up with an enduring object as well!
Mine is a collection of a few years....I initially saved up and bought maybe 14 tubes, and then went from there, lol. Primateks were selling buy 2 get one free.
Sadly the large 48 set tins have the railings too close together so the middle section won't fit half pans at all. The 24 tin sets usually do though. ❤ One day I might try fully dismantling one of the big tin inserts and see if I can get another row in the middle, lol.

Playing with our paints and reorganizing palettes is so much fun. Re-doing swatch sheets not so much, lol. I love that Sodalite.
I'm a bit over swatch sheets at the moment, lol!

Add lavender from DS. It’s a beautiful colour on its own and I find it a great colour to for mixes. I have such fun experimenting with this colour.👍

quin coral, nickel azo yellow, and transparent red oxide! some of my faves. we have pretty similar taste in pigments too :)

I don't think I'd get a video out in time! 😭
An excellent video 👍👍

Love doing this and seeing a clean palette but then you don't want to use it lol. Are you back in lock down in your area Becky?
My palettes never stay clean for long....lol! And yes, we've been in strict lock down again for a couple of weeks. Fifth time for Melbourne! 😭

Daniel Smith’s Hansa Yellow Light is a must have in my pallet.
