I will be very interested to hear how Bear is after this ride! Sometimes all we need is a rider with fewer "memories" of things going wrong to sit on a horse and knock off a little rust and then the discussions become much more amicable and much more orderly! She's still got it. And well done, Ellie! What good fun.
Wonderful! I wonder if her lack of “ping” is related to her lack of fitness or the fact that Ellie has no anxiety at all! Maybe a bit of both. We all know our horses feel our anxiety and it can ramp them up. Meg, your anxiety is understandable because you’ve been jumping The Pocket Rocket forever. Both Ellie and Bear are so brave in this!! It should prove that your Bear anxiety while understandable, may just fizzle out with all the different horses and confidence you have now!
@@WildFlowersNWildMustangs Well the quieter = lack of anxiety and Bear can feel that. In terms of distances, not sure but this is Ellie's job and she's been trained by the best. Meg is amazing but in the beginning, it was just her and Hobbit! She produced Bear. She saw that she was more than just a pony. It has served her well. Meg talks about problems with confidence but it took more guts than I will ever have to ride youg Bear.
@@debbieredmon5063 pretty sure that’s basically what I said. Just without kissing up to Meg. No one is attacking Meg. I’ve trained jumpers, eventers and ponies for many years. Ellie isn’t anxious and doesn’t drop her shoulder and eyes several strides before the fence like Meg does when she gets nervous. When Meg does that Bear then has to scramble a stride or two to save the distance and ends up Pinging The fence. Ellie doesn’t do that so obviously Bears going to jump quieter. Meg knows that, that’s why she put Ellie on her. No one is attacking Meg.
@@WildFlowersNWildMustangs you know what gives a rider a leg up on confidence issues? Being the child of a pro rider, a child who has probably ridden more since she was born than walked on her own two feet. I have several friends who are children of professionals, and from what I’ve seen, it’s both a blessing and a curse for said kids. Let’s be real, the younger you can start learning a sport, the more you inherit “the feeling” for it. This is true more with some sports than others, but anything requiring body and spatial awareness, such as doing gymnastics, and also riding, is easier when you’re started young. It’s a huge benefit, considering how many motor skills are learned in childhood. I’m sure Lucinda had Ellie riding lots of different horses ALL the time, and I’m sure she’s been drilled in every aspect of riding her entire life. This is where I say it can be a blessing and a curse being the child of a professional rider/trainer. You ride whether you want to or not, and I’ve seen some trainer kids get sick of spending all their time riding and showing, and riding becomes a chore for them. Some of them rebel and decide NOT to keep riding, but most I’ve known have done it so much that it’s second nature, and they have ridden so many distances so many times, it becomes instinctual, and they end up growing up to be pros themselves. I’m not trying to take away from Ellie’s natural talent. I’m just saying that Meg probably didn’t get to start riding as young, have access to so much pro training, didn’t have access to ride tons of types of horses, and she also didn’t get drilled into riding multiple horses a day every day. I think Meg had less help and fewer horses, (and probably had more of a “normal” upbringing, with more chance to do other things, like go to social events and travel-for fun- and got to go to Uni and whatnot.) I think Meg’s riding journey started out much more on the amateur side, like mine did, so we have to work harder to make finding distances more of a regular thing and not get nervous at key moments while riding. I think both young ladies are great riders. Meg is just more self-taught. But she’s doing great! I think it was a good idea to have Ellie ride Bear for her first jump back, as Meg says horses can read nervousness from the rider and react accordingly. Meg has a lot of past history with Bear and her insane jumping style, so she knows there is reason for trepidation. Whereas Ellie is just coming in fresh, never having jumped Bear. Bear is just another “job” for her. I’m the first to admit there have been many times over the years I’ve wanted my trainer to ride my horses, especially when it’s a new horse, before I do, both so that I get the confidence boost to see my horse ridden positively, and so I don’t bring in any of my own nervous vibes (which for sure ends disastrously if your horse is also nervous!)
@@margauxnodvin7478 I did not feel like reading your whole response (even though I’m sure it was written well). As I’ve told the others who have replied to my comment, I was in no way hating on Meg, I was simply making an observation as a professional rider myself.
So enjoyed this - after 3 years off, having a foal, and carrying a bit of holiday weight, thought bear did so well and isn't Ellie great. Confess I was holding my breath as she approached the first couple of jumps!
Ellie is a great rider. As are you Meg. She just got on board and did it. No history or issues. Bear is a feisty little mare on springs. Well done all of you 🐴
I really hope you reconnect with Bear Bear, she is YOUR ponio, you'll get there honestly 🥰 I had a simplar issue with my last horse, I'd had a tumblle and I didn't trust him any more even though he was absolutly fabulous, people used to ride him all the time and while I was chuffed that everyone loved riding him and begged to be able to, but also sad that I wasnt that person
I had the exact same experience as you! 😅 ended up selling my mare because of it (also didn’t have enough time because of school) and instantly regretted it, her new owners seem to be having a ball now 😊 bitter sweet
bears little wild leggies 🤣🤣 she jumps amazing though and she seems like she was SUPER into it, like okay I know how to do this! she just needed a little rambunctious bravery for a session! Ellie's a real go-getter, I enjoyed these two episodes
Ellie looks amazing on bear, you must be delighted with that, was expecting more antics from bear 🤣 but as you say she isn’t fit yet and carrying a mum tum.. get on now Meg ride forward you will be right on with her now you have seen she is being sensible, you will fab xx
Ellie has NO fear! Granted, she’s still young and in the stage of feeling invincible. However, even when I was her age (I’m 47 now), I never had THAT much confidence! She’s a great rider, too, and I like how calmly she dealt with Bear’s little moments of silliness. My only negative comment is that I don’t really think it’s fair to a pony who hasn’t jumped in three years to be asked to jump such high fences. I realize there were only a few large fences, but with Bear being as out of shape as she is, I just thought that was asking too much. Bear hasn’t been using those muscles for a LONG time, and she is going to be very sore. If I was bringing one of my horses back into work after years off, I would just do flat work and not do anything more than pole work (flat and raised poles) for a few months. When I started jumping again, I would start with much smaller jumps and work my way up over time. But I’m not a RUclipsr trying to get clicks and likes. No offense, Meg. I usually think you do what’s best for your ponies/horses, but I’m a bit disappointed on this one. I really hope that you iced Bear’s legs, gave her a good liniment bath, a bit of Bute or other equine NSAID with dinner, and gave her a day off and/or did very light flat work with her. Glad to see Bear is back, but I also care more about her getting fit than seeing her jump 1.15 or 1.20m her first time back jumping. 😢
Bear is back!! I hope you get your confidence back on her soon Meg, I had a really bad confidence know on my naughty cob last year aswell it gets better❤️❤️
Ellie is just a dream to watch. I know she's been trained since birth by her incredible mum but you can't teach feel and her love and passion Ellis so uplifting. Being launched into nothingness!!!🤣🤣🤣 Bear would have been more explosive if Ellie hadn't unlocked those shoulders and neck. Pity 😂😂😂
Fantastic to watch, though Meg, I wish you’d be a bit kinder to yourself! You’ve brought Bear to this point, through all sorts of shenanigans over the years. She gave you a legit reason to have an emotional wobble, but you already know how to work a horse through their wobbles, and how to work yourself through yours! You got this!! There’s no timeline for you and Bear to do stuff, other than the one that works for the two of you.
I'm so excited!!! I can't believe how long its been- please do an update on all the ponies! I was rewatching your old 'meet my horses" video and was just thinking how nice it'd be to have an updated Meet the Horses with all of them? I'd love to see all their accomplishments and your future plans for them!!
absolutely loved this keep up the good work with bear i cant wait for the future i'm hoping and praying you get her jumping what she was before that looked really fun lol 😂
Well Meg’s… I love your honesty. That takes courage to say I’m too scared !! It’s a simple fact of life… as we get older self preservation sets in. The adrenaline rush doesn’t hold so much appeal when we realise we are quite likely to fall off🫣😆. As a kid I was fearless… now I’m old I’m just sensible 👍‼️. I love you for being happy announcing that you’re not as brave as you were. That helps all of us feel better… 👍‼️‼️
I Am so happy to see bear jumping! she has always made me laugh and am glad that she is starting jumping again! I remember watching you for the first time and bear was in the video and I just loved seeing her jump and she would always make me smile :D
Well done Ellie! What a fab rider - she made that look super easy! Great to see Bear be so sensible 😂 also power to the people getting those comments in that fast!
When Ellie had her on the left rein, I kept having a thought that at any second your dad would leap out from behind those small buildings on the right with his strimmer at top speed lol 😬 I imagined Bear having a fit of the vapours and many bucks & swerving even though she knows perfectly well who he is & he always has his strimmer out when you are schooling!!!! Really enjoyed the video, thank you xx
I’ve obviously lived in the US too long. My first thought was ‘I hope you have a full liability release and no faults arrangement with Ellie.’ She’s definitely a brave one!!
This was surprisingly sensible of Bear! Thanks to Ellie for taking one for the team 😂
Ellie is such a credit to Lucinda .. she rides so quiet but her communication is clear ! Great person to start her jumping off x
With a mum like Lucinda she wasn’t going to not be!
How sweet is the way Ellie always speaks to the horses?! Love it
Team like then watch 👇

Ellie is such an amazing rider, loved watching that! Well done with all the work you’ve done with Bear since she’s been coming back into work, Meg ❤

Truly what a beautiful rider. Great seat, timing and talent.

Ponio is just another word for pony that I’m sure every equestrian would have used atleast once 😂
I don’t think she is disconnected just it’s Meg and bear what can we expect
