About 20 years ago, I was at a drum swap meet at Donn Bennet's in Bellevue, Washington, and Steve Smith was in town for a gig in Seattle, and he was at Donn's shop, and I asked Steve about selecting and playing brushes, and he was gracious and kind to spend some time with me and help me select some brushes and then Steve demonstrated for me the very same fundamentals he spoke of in this video. I have since obtained the video highlighting 7 of the most wonderful Masters of Brushes, and to this day, it remains my most favorite video, and now I will have to watch it again today, and I will chill on some brushes, or as I call them "sweepers" since after a youngster in my family once referred to the brushes as sweepers some years ago, and today, he too is a musician who also plays drums. Thanks and Blessings to Rob, Adam, Jeff, and Steve.
Just found this gem! I started with the Ed Thigpen DVD and then Clayton Cameron. I ruined a couple pair of brushes getting the feel of Clayton’s butterfly strokes copying his opening solo on his DVD!
