Jeff it’s always a good idea to cover the glass with a welding blanket when welding near it. Otherwise you run the risk of molten balls embedded into the glass.
I have done that before, you are correct. I wasn't overly worried though, as I was welding around the corner of glass, so there was no direct exposure.
That taped masking is very handy stuff, I didnt know that was available. Where is the spare wheel going now? Roof? Under floor? in the back? Maybe a lighter wheel for the back door.......A thin steel one might work.
Jeff do you clean the surface before welding? As in use prepsol / wax and grease remover etc..? You welds will be a lot better if you clean the area really well especially with Mig, also where you place the clamp for the welder (good grounding also helps).
By the way I mention it because I see you touching the metal with your fingers which can contain oils and contaminate the area. Not sure if you're aware of this?
Jeff, thx for this - i'm looking to do my first but of rust removal, repair etc on my focus' door. could you do one of your shorter segments (or drop me some info in the comments section) on the grinder (what to look for, for example) and the type of discs to get for various jobs? thx.
My revenue since the viral vid, has been up across the board. A lot of it will be that the channel is bigger now, but it is still better. I won't be retiring any time soon though ;)

My windshield knows all about those molten balls. Only in one spot, though: Directly in front of the driver's face.
Jeff, did you put any clear coat on over the white paint from the aerosol can?
With an exception to the welding component, paint and repair looks pretty easy to do. I didn't realise you could get mixed aerosol cans. Nice vid.
Neither did I. They actually mix it on the spot and insert it into the can!
Thats a pain, it happened in my Toyota Prado and it got pretty bad, i had to replace the whole door. Now i use an aftermarket bumper with tire carrier
Just asking do you or anyone know how replace driver sided rear door small window any help appreciated
hi mate what is the address the this shop
Hey Eddie - where did you get your insulation window panels for your GU??
Estos pequeños videos te hacen grande!!!
What a great video Jeff!
Thanks mate, I couldn't have done it without the moral support :D

The spare now goes on the roof tray, so it is out of the way. The taped masking is great and very handy.
Hi Jeff. What happened to the 911 engine? Is it still being repaired?
Yep

I did clean it up well before welding. I didn't bother with clear on the solid white as it is not super glossy anyway.
Good match on the white Mate..

Any cheap and nasty grinder will do the job. Have a look at this vid ruclips.net/video/H1KSpkL1XRo/видео.html
ah - i'd forgotten you'd done a vid on it - thx alot
Hey Jeff, another fantastic video. When do you expect the Porsche engine back? Cheers
Loved the “soft mask” concept. I’ve never heard of that! Great vid. Oh...did you clear it after the paint?
I didn't bother in this case even though we had the clear at hand, as the old 4wd solid white was not that glossy anyway.
Hey Jeff. Cool that you are getting car ads! I think car ads pay better. Yea! Good for you. Heidi

Home Built By Jeff yeah, I know. That retirement being ‘far off’ is a bummer. However, maybe RUclips is the retirement...
What’s the colour code.
Any more news with the progress of the Alfa 105?
Waiting it's turn
You need to get yourself a Dremel. Drilling the crack at the end would be good too
Piotr Em i love Dremel! Awesome tool.
I do need to get a Dremel. It is on the list ;)
Could have welded in an extra bar inside the door in case the wheel goes back on.
We did discuss reinforcing it, but we decided it wasn't necessary in this situation.
Rust in the CracK! LOL
