I just read this quote from a Hollywood film school site. I understand it all better now by reading the whole article, but I learned a lot about depth of field and cinematic look. "We can safely conclude that in the DSLR realm (and in the digital sensor world, in general) APS-C is the closest representation of the cinematic look in terms of DOF."
Hi Mantas, i just want to say you got a very good eye for good shots, really nice perspectives. I'm more impressed by your filming than the lens. :D Nice inspiration. Keep up this good work. Weitermachen.
This is fantastic. Broadcast quality I would say. There are some critical reviews elsewhere of this lens which remind me of the bad workman blaming his tools. They should be made to watch this video and see what it is really capable of. Kudos to you sir.
Great video, I have had this lens for may years now it came with my NEX 6, looking at this vid I feel I may have underestimated the 55-210 so what camera did you use i was looking at replacing it with the new E18-210 LE lens but have seen comparison pics side by side on the net and I think I may just stick with the cheap 55-210. thanks for sharing
Hi, I like your video and have actually just ordered an A6000 with what I believe is that very same lens. I have a question about the music you've used. How do you find it and I'm assuming you're allowed to use it for free if your source it? I'm putting together a few videos (aviation related) and am trying to source some good music. Thanks !
Paul S No, Go to Jamendo website, choose "listen" then press "search" on the top. When you will see the Search page. Below it will be small letters "Advanced Search" press on it. In the advanced search open "CC License" graph and choose "Attribution-Share Alike". When you will see songs witch are completely free to use. :)
Most of the time, I am taking music from "jamendo" website. You can find a lot royality free music there. But couple weeks ago, they redesigned the page, so now it is harder to find something usefull.
Hi. A7s is a full frame camera, so you suppose to buy full frame sony lenses. Sony nex 5R and this lense is crop sensor. So for example, if you put this 55-210 lense on a7s, in the picture you will have black edges around.
I am not sure, about that but crop e mount lenses should work fine on full frame e mount sony cameras, including a7s. Just need to set up crop mode on camera :) so oss should work too.
+Bernardo Porraz It appears that it doesn't. Bummer. Here's a thread to read through that is full of similar complaints: www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3603318 I recently purchased both the A7s AND this lens only to find out it doesn't stabilize. Let's pester Sony for a firmware update!!
Sai Luminos I was planning to buy that lenses too. I had no practical experience, but people saying that lens is one of the best for videography, for sony mirrorless (aps-c sensor). I am talking about Sony E PZ 18-105 f4 G with electronic zoom.
+Sai Luminos I've had this lens for around a year, and I will say that it has its uses. wide to mid-telephoto is pretty nice. I've gotten some sweet shots with it. The image quality is better than this lens, but it falls just short of any other prime out there on the line-up. It's a good walk-around lens to have.
+Zachary Papenberg I actually have the 55-210 but i've done research for 18-105... i know the pin cushioning could be corrected with newer NEX models.. but i've also read that it's softer on the edges and sharper in the center for pictures... thoughts?

Wow, great test shots, now I'm confident I made the right decision in ordering the lens.

Searching test footage of this lens and I immediately notice it was shot in Malta, my home country... Just the test footage I needed xD good job mate.
Thank you!
The lens just so so.
But the videographer is PRO
No so bad considering what it cost not a lot of money :) thank you :)
Why are so so?

garbage in > garbage out
Excellent shot selection. I'm inspired now.
Quite decent quality - I have to use mine more...

Paul S Normally I am searching for no-copyright music. You can look for it in youtube or Jamendo website.
Mantas Vilimas OK. SO you've had to pay for the rights to use that song? 99USD through Jamendo seems a bit expensive! It's a good song, but...

wow that impressed me
Very nice video. impressive steady shot as well. Can I ask you what is the name of transition on Premiere or Finalcut which is blurred smoothly?
For Premiere it is called Warp Stabilizer
Thanks. What about transition at 3sec, 8sec and so on? Blurring change.
Shot in Malta I see :)
I like the transition effect between first three scenes. Can you tell me what video editor and effect did you use?
badmoonPL It is Boris FX tool. You can buy it for the most of the editing softwares,
I wonder if this lens would work with a FS7 which has a super 35mm sensor ... would be a cheap handy lens if does?
What WB you use in this cinematic?
Great video! I have an a5100. Do you know if this lens offers continuous auto-focus while filming? Thanks!
yes it does
Hello a7s lens works with the camera?

Does the OSS works with the Sony A7s, somewhere I'd read that it doesn`t

Hallo my friend!I want to ask you if you use tripod or is a handheld video?
ANTONIS DAVIS Hello, 90% of this video is shoot handheld. The Sel55-210 lense has very nice stabilization (OSS)
what program did you use this for? and how did you record? with a monopod?
Tee New for editing I used adobe premiere pro. Almost everything is shot handheld :)
do you think a good monopod would do the same trick?
Tee New yes, I think monopod helps to stabilize footage a lot :)
Very helpful, thank you! I have just bought the A6000 and was thinking about the SONY 18-105mm f4 lens, any experience with that one?
