  • This is a vlog that I have been filming on and off for nearly a year. I thought about not releasing it until the results came out, and depending upon the results, maybe not releasing it at all. Then people in my membership and Patreon saw it and I had messages saying how much it had helped them and how it had encouraged some people to see their own doctors. That's what made me realise, whatever the outcome, this is still important to share.

Thank you for being so vulnerable & honest Rhi! I'm so glad neurological disorders are being spoken about more regularly. My son is currently awaiting an ASD assessment and I am also on the waitlist now after discovering traits in myself. It's good to be open and honest with yourself so be proud. Sending love to you and your family ♥️✨

Thank you so much for sharing, Rhi. I have ADHD and I won’t lie, getting diagnosed was a nightmare! It took me 8 years to get a doctor to even listen to me about my concerns. Eventually I was put on a 3 year waiting list and due to my impatience caused by my ADHD, I ended up paying to go private. They diagnosed me with ASD as well which I found really interesting as it was something I never saw myself having but now I look at all signs, it’s totally me!
I spent so many years feeling like a complete weirdo but after my diagnosis, I managed to put a lot of strategies in place to help me cope but it was such a relief to finally understand my brain. Meditation didn’t work for me but that’s just me, my son is on concerta and that really works for him! ❤️

Hi Rhi, my 10 year old son is currently going through ASD assessment (taken 4 years) but the more research I do to learn about him, the more I recognise it in myself and am convinced I’m on the spectrum too. Good luck with everything and I hope you figure it all out. Xxx

Google says that if a parent has ADHD, their children are 2.5 times more likely to be autistic, so this definitely checks out. Much love!

I have watched your channel for a while now, I have 3 children with autism,Hypermobility and dyspraxia, I certainly see they love routine, and they are at their best with routine. My daughter needs to have things completely organised, as disorganisation is a trigger. I know you are really organised, it's hard to tell if it's your way of coping to avoid an escalation in your mental state or if it's normal as you have your Childrens care needs in addition to your other responsibilities. I think whatever the findings, you're the most amazing parent, and you have given your children stability and routine which is just what they need. I'm thinking about you and I hope you get the answers you need soon. Well done for speaking out xx

Thanks a lot for sharing this Rhi, I am 32 and been diagnosed last year, just started medication. Your vlog talking about your kids and assessment etc pushed me to get myself assessed and was so much help, I know you definitely have support in your family but I hope this community will give you as much support as you give us ❤

The assessment itself for me was really a conversation with a psychiatrist about how I react and done things since I was a kid, my habits etc. the psychiatrist gave me her opinion straight away, some advice on how to adapt and my options in term of medication etc.

Most of the things that I've put in place were because I thought I had a lot on my plate with Mum life - maybe they are just ADHD hacks. Also lots I put in place is for my kids as they need routine x

I have been diagnosed with ADD when I was 34. What you said about being told "if you only worked harder" hits a real nerve. Maybe the process is easier in the Netherlands, but I had to have several talks, fill in loads of forms, but the whole thing costed only a few months, waiting included. And after that I had a year of therapy to learn tips and tricks ..... But forgot most of them haha
My two oldest have also ADD, and also stimulus sensitive. It makes me sad that it isn't accepted the way autism is in for instance France, where ADHD is viewed as a behavioral disorder.......
But please don't doubt yourself. Be yourself and the answers will come.

It was because of your chat with Katie that I thought I might have ADHD and because of that, I pushed for assessment. I'm in England and got an appointment quicker through right to choose. I'm not sure if Wales uses that system, too. Since then, I have been diagnosed, and it has changed my life, the validation is real! My eldest son, aged 9, has also been diagnosed, my husband has been diagnosed, and my 3 younger children will also be assessed. We have a strong family connection with it even going back to Grandparents (although never diagnosed, I now see the traits). So many of my coping strategies, like setting alarms and using baskets, etc, have come from you, so thank you, and good luck with your journey 😊

My first thought was why label yourself when your a perfectly functional adult, it won't change anything.
But after listening to you If it helps you, then it's right for you.
I have thought a few times that your a little limited in your interests but over the top at the same time and that's not a criticism it's just my observation.
One thing that hit home in what you said is I have fits and starts with swimming for fitness and the thing that stops me going is boredom while swimming I don't know what to do with my mind while swimming lengths.

If I was a child growing up now I would have been definitely diagnosed with adhd!! I was impulsive couldn’t sit still was always in trouble at school couldn’t concentrate! As I got older into turned into anxiety not enough to not be able to handle it but I worry about things and have trouble sleeping shutting my brain off. Certain things make me panic. My 14 year old daughter has depression/anxiety which she is being treated for and watching your videos I wonder if she has autism too slightly? We’re just trying to find the right medication for her. Good luck with your assessment it’s a tough journey!

I’m really curious, if you do get a diagnosis, how that will help you. I tick all the boxes as well but it doesn’t affect my life to the point of struggling to function so I never looked for a diagnosis and I didn’t really intend to do it. But if it turns out it is actually worth doing, I would definitely look into it. I have a suspicion that because we do have so many strategies in place that work now they might say oh, well, there isn’t much else we can do for you apart from medication.

I'm convinced I've got something. My eldest has inattentive adhd, and his triggers and reactions to certain situations are so similar to mine. I wonder if I've rubbed off on him re his reactions to situations, or is he just like me in that we both have adhd?

@MummyofFourUK it's brilliant you're getting assessed. I know a lot of people are getting assessed now between we were little, it wasn't really a 'thing'. My husband has adhd, and he was just considered naughty and annoying. I wish my son had been assessed sooner, then I would have been able to handle situations a better because I'd have understood what was going on rather than thinking he was just difficult. I always asked and was told there were no signs of adhd or autism. But now I know, I know x

I do not want to offend you at all but I can absolutely see the symptoms in you as early as the way you chose your kitchen and your office tours. You talk quite quickly and include so much detail that neuro typical people don't but we ADHDers NEED to be that detailed. We're insecure, we're anxious, we never feel anything is as good as it can be but everything needs to happen NOW!!
Alarms for everything but it needs labelled because we will forget what the alarm means. We constantly start a task or new career but we're already starting the next task or job because we've decided the one we're currently doing is not fun and not fulfilling anymore.
We have rituals as coping strategies because "we can predict the future" we're not, we can just identify changing in patterns without realising as a self defence mechanism. I have a High functioning ASD Daughter and a ADHD son.

I jumped in early, should’ve watched the whole video first…ADHD… I believe they don’t diagnose ADD anymore. It’s all ADHD, either hyperactive, inattentive or combined type.
