my fav set up is, immortal T in front and L shaped dipole antenna out the back, and 500mw. before you push any set up you should find a place you can test the maximum distance you will be needing, on this set up i could freestyle 1 mile away (1.6km) without any drop outs or scares. i would also recommend falconrad fpv vids, even if you dont want to fly 3 miles and 10,000 feet altitude, its good to know how it can be done.
The other thing you should consider is your antenna orientation. If you have your antenna vertical on your quad then you should have your antenna vertical on your radio. The crossfire antennas lose a lot of connectivity once they go past about 45⁰ of being in plane with each other. Pavel Spychalski has a great video about antenna orientation for long range. BTW love your kitty.
Excellent tips for crossfire users!! Always check output power level for long range and I also highly recommend the dual diversity rx antennas setup! Great informative video, MaiOnHigh!! 👍👍
I use TBS Tracer but some of these do apply to me! Thank you for the tips, some of these things I had no clue about and now I know 😀😌 Keep up the good content!
@@MaiOnHigh That's a good idea for racing I assume 😀 Well Tracer has ludicrous mode and I think It goes to 1w output, latency goes up but it increases its range I'm pretty sure 😌🤙
Most important tip for long range is battery management. Know how far out you can take it. Consider wind direction. Always try to fly into the wind on your way out that way you spend less battery on the way back. Also get a basic understanding of how the fresnel zone works. It applies to both the TX and VTX. Better fresnel = better video/control link, ie, longer possible range. I've been really getting into long range in the past two months, mainly with my flywoo ex and hex plorers. I've only recently gotten a naked GoPro so expect some long range content soon. But yeah, those are my two cents. There's a lot more to it and it's impossible to condense it into a short video but all the tips you've said are solid.
Great tips! Since this video was about crossfire - I didn't get too much into detail on other things but it sparks an idea of making a more detailed video on other aspects of lr 🤔
Crossfire has bitten me a few times, and you mentioned some of the causes that got me also. One that people need to check is the Tx ant coax condition. I had the Tx Tee ant coax break where the dipoles connect, caused an ugly crash. Good Tips Video !
Excellent tips Lexie!! I experienced an rx loss on my I-Flight DC 10. I bought a tbs diversity receiver so hopefully that will take care of it. Then for my receiver antenna, I put double sided tape on the arm. Then mounted it on the tape so hopefully it'll work 😊
@@MaiOnHigh Nice. It was pretty daunting for me to get set up, but seems to out run my vtx running on 250mw micro quad. Please do a video of your experience of setting up and first flights.
Hello Lexi, I have only one similar problem as you. Sometimes when I'm checking settings at home I usual change output power of my RX to 25mW to save battery in my radio and sometimes I forgot to change this setting back 😜
It's important, especially long range, to have a "RTH" capability, using beta flight or Inav. No reason to ever lose a drone (or plane-wing) again. If you are in a panic or no-signal condition, flip a switch and it returns.
Taking the time to check the gear the night before a flight is certainly key as in many things. I would be lying if I said I did it every time and have had a few unlucky and stupid events
Awesome tips, Lexie! Thanks! 😃 You should try Ghost or 2.4Ghz Express LRS... Because in EU the band for Crossfire isn't big enough... Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Really valid and solid advice here. I'm gonna pin that if that's ok

True! Didn't think of that! Some things always skip the mind
Ha! I totally didn't do most of those things... lucky so far but... I'm gonna go and repair some stuff now...
Yeah I was lucky up until that day too 😅
Good morning ☕🤓
Good information for anyone flying no matter the protocol or range. Happy flying Lexie 💖😎
Haha true!
Thanks and happy flying! ☕
i am learning so much from you and joshua and wow a few more like ken and cionne an detc etc
Cool!
Thanks for sharing the knowledge!
Happy to
Great video... I love my Crossfire! Especially with my Tango 2! Thank you for your work.
And thank you for watching!
Loving my crossfire too ☺️

Great video, also cool sword in the background 😁😁
Hahaha thanks 😎
TBS a must
Indeed
Great and informative video! I totally didn't do some of that myself!
Thanks a lot and you should totally not make those mistakes anymore! 💜

Be sure to isolate the arm with tape so the antenna doesn't touch carbon where it's being held onto the arm!
I think you shouldn't have any problems!
Very good info. I went with 2.4 ELRS instead of crossfire but the points you made can apply to it as well other than antenna on the quad.
agreed! I am about to test the ELRS too ^^"

Sometimes it fails, or during RTH it hits something 😉 I saw enough but I agree - it helps
When you say it's far from perfect , what is perfect or as close as you can get ?
Stumbled across your channel. Subbed . 😊 thanks
Depands what you consider perfect in your head I guess 😅 there are days when I can get really close 🤣
Taking the time to check the gear the night before a flight is certainly key as in many things. I would be lying if I said I did it every time and have had a few unlucky and stupid events
That's absolutely true!
How do you install two antennas on one drone? Since the crossfire receiver only has one antenna attachment point... Correct?
There's a crossfire diversity which has 2 antenna attachment points 😅
I believe it's safer to put the refreshrate on 50hz then 150 or dynamic for a stable link, right?
I made this video after talking to the tbs owner about it actually 😅 that's what he said 😅
