I can see Mick being a tough sell. To anyone not knowing his work he's an out of shape guy who just does "garbage wrestling". Turns out he's one of the best talkers, and while he'll take ridiculous risks to himself he always takes care of his opponent.
Just does garbage wrestling? Mick Foley may not do a lot of fancy moves but he was a better worker than 80% of their roster.
@@ssssssstssssssss like I said to anyone not familiar. Vince doesn't watch other wrestling promotions remember?
@@ssssssstssssssss no he's saying Vince saw his wrestling as that, not him
I wouldn’t say he was exactly out of shape at the time, in 1996 / 7 he didn’t have a 6 pack, but he was slim. He got pretty fat later.
@@Dessan01 While he wasn't out of shape at the time, he certainly wasn't Vince's preferred look for the WWE, which was big muscly tan dudes, ala Hogan.
I'd imagine by 2000 Vince looked back at Mick's work, and how many superstars were made partly on programs with him, and thought "Thank fuck I listened to JR, lol" Foley is pretty unique in that even when he was a big name, top card guy, he was still always more focused on putting together a good match, and getting his opponent over, than he was worried about getting over himself.
Jr made the perfect. Basketball Analogy.
Mick Foley doing his Cane Dewey/ Anti-hardcore promos in ECW were gold and helped prep him for the big time.
Mick Foley a gift to wrestling
If there wasn't a Mick Foley all these years ago, today we wouldn't be having Samoa Joe & Kevin Owens in WWE.
Mick was so talented it's crazy how Vince/ WWE didn't see the talent in him.
Vince doesn't watch other wrestlers unless they're in his wrestling federation. So he wouldn't have known how good he was and I guess those Dark Matches didn't impress him.
Micks physical appearance is not a wrestler that you think would sell man. When you go to the gym do you look at the fat girl trying to get in shape or the girl that is already lifting weights and in shape. That should tell you all. Especially in show business.
Always been a huge Mick Foley fan, even back in the day before he hit the main event when everyone was only a fan of the top few guys.
Not all of us, personally I enjoyed some of the midcard guys like Mortis and Regal
@@ComicBookGuy420 You are one of the very few I have seen that are wrestling fans that actually enjoy the guys who can actually shoot and have talent. Most people just like the showy flashy guys/women that are only good on the mic.
Mick is hard worker but yes his hardcore wrestling did take a while to sell. I like watching him in certain matches but not all the time.
JR is a great interview and a great guy 👍 if you saw any of Mick's promos in ECW, you know the guy is a genius.
Bruce also always said at times you had to agree with Vince to get him to disagree with you
Listening to this perspective is repulsive. Vince looking for the 6' muscular blonde hair blue eye superstar when the fans didn't really care about had to be one of the most annoying points in wrestling. Undertaker didn't scare me but mankind scared the crap out of me. Jr made a good call. Taker and Mick several great matches.
Unfortunately in show business looks matter. Look at the past wwf stars. Hulk Hogan big muscles, ultimate warrior, Rick rude nice body, Shawn Michaels good looking guy, Bret Hart was decent looking with technical skills. Name one fat out of shape star outside of dusty Rhodes and then Mick Foley came. Other than that show business is about looks.
Kurt angle(cruiserweight -receding hair line)-Gangrel-Old Diamond Dallas page-Road dogg(never muscular, average size)Daniel Bryant (short)-bray Wyatt -Chris benoit(short)-eddie Guerrero -(short and Mexican)-Bob backlund- George the animal Steele-koko b ware(short and black)- stone cold Steve Austin (bald) -jake Roberts. That formula worked for Hogan and Vince couldn't duplicate it. Warrior was a flop (didn't produce like expected)
@@mikejohn3265 Steve and Austin were top heels in different eras. Koko b ware was nothing. Gangrel was cartoonist character man. Come on.
My point was vince's stupid formula. What Vince want and what the fans want did not always agree. Gangrel didn't fit in that formula so he was never intended to be popular. His role was to get edge over...not become WWF champion. Even though Vince tried to bury him the brood still became popular. Also Koko b ware is in the hall of fame.
Bang bang
JR is the one talking about his 'push' today, lol
I remember coming across undertaker vs mankind in a shotgun Saturday match I was hooked on wwe after that
Too many....."Hey brother."😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 JR hates "brother" lmfao
Who would resist him on that, Foley was a great performer
JR: NBA is the National Basketball Association, Vince.
Vince McMahon:....OK is Oklahoma, pal!
One of greatest of all time. No one took the bumps foley did.
🔥
Mick Foley wasn’t a Boy Toy or injecting himself with steroids but he knew how to work and was a high character guy. Heel or face he was a guy who you rooted for and he always delivered.
Ah, yes. Those elbow drops to the concrete and the knee-first Irish whip into the steel steps and 11 unprotected chair shots to the head were masterful, artistic storytelling
@@Redhotshawntexas glad we can agree; after all the things he did with thumb tacks would make him an artist.
Hands down, Cactus is my favorite
I was hoping for a mick Foley episode. Can we hear about his time as Commissioner ? I wanna learn more about the decision to make DEBRA LT COMMISSIONER
Does make you realize that many wrestlers that "look good" tend to be train wrecks!
Everything chivkin but da bone son
I know he get a royalty check for slobber knocker lol
Wasn't it the idiotic WCW gimmick of announcing Mick Foley would be made champion that signaled the resurgence of WWE? I remember that night, I was one of many who switched channels when I heard the news, huge Cactus Jack fan. I hope Vince recognizes.
Vince recognized it then, or else Mick never would have been champion in the first place
I hated co-workers who could do better but thought they were too good to try far more than the people who simply couldn't do any better than mediocre. Jim sounds like he is talking about the same kind of person.
Jim Ross has a lot of opinions hire someone that was a willing employee of Vince McMahon
Same old story. JR can you please stop and just retire
You clicked on the video..... 🤦♂️
@@CyberSlunk it really should have a trigger warning in the title of the video
Vince McMahon isn't a genius he's an out of touch control freak. He takes credit for the genius of others.
