I was wondering what that charge your non Tesla button was about recently. That’s the first site I’ve seen that can do that.
That was easier than using EA's system.. and IT WORKED!!!! LOLZ.
I think Telsa opening up there Supercharger Network will be an awesome thing.. for them and us. It's another revenue stream. The only downside would be having there Superchargers clogged with Non Tesla's That could be handled by Cuing.. that could be done in the app. It could assign you a charger and tell you which one to connect to when it is available.
After the price drop, it would make sense to open up the super chargers to CCS. The 2 reasons people dont get EVs is price (now reduced) and issues with range/charging. If all cars can charge on all networks, charging/range becomes a non-issue, and more people will make the switch. The USA has reached 5%+ ev adoption, its set to expand tremendously. Even if tesla loses some market share, they'll sell a lot more cars if more and more people switch to EVs.
I am not sure we will see the same performance a Tesla gets from a SuperCharger in other CCS vehicles. I have a Tesla wall charger at home and R1T charges at half the speed (18mph) compared to 35 mph for a model S. Makes me wonder if there is some sort of throttling that happens when an adapter is detected.
Everybody keeps talking about Tesla opening up the Supercharger network but how is it going to work in real life? Superchargers have short cables designs for a Teslas charging location. Most cars don’t have the charging location in the right spot of the car to even reach. I see a future of blocked superchargers and parking in the wrong spot for cars to be able to charge unless Tesla comes out with new hardware.
it is legit great. id be ok with every dcfc location having 2 destination chargers....
The other networks had better get their act together once Tesla opens up the Supercharger network.
And for that matter, any other manufacturers that add a Tesla socket to their offering will have a massive competitive advantage.
Volvo EV60 Cross Country with NACS 🤞
I hope they open the supercharger network to other EVs by the time we get our Rivian. Probably won’t road-trip it without and just take the model 3 since we know it works.
@Branden Flasch, GET THAT GARBAGE RIVIAN OUTTA THERE!! THE NERVE OF THIS BOZO TRYING TO HOG UP ALL THE TESLA STATIONS, I DONT THINK SO PAL~ 😡😡😡
Nice to see that Tesla is adding non-Tesla billing in their app. I really hope sometime this year they open up Superchargers with a Tesla to CCS adapter. Like you said, it shouldn't be that difficult with the app.
Good video glad to see that Tesla is starting to phase in this process even as a Tesla owner. It’ll be great to see I will eventually be able to take my wife’s Ioniq 5 on long road trips
This is super cool Branden. As a Tesla owner I wouldn't mind the network opened up. It would be more money in the bank. Let Tesla sell a CCS adapter, charge a 4 or 5 dollar monthly fee and make non-Tesla customers pay a little more than a Tesla owner. Can you imagine the money Tesla can make opening up the network?
I’ve modeled the increased revenue, accelerated network growth and reduction in COGS with open supercharging and it’s fairly significant over a few years
@brandenflasch any thoughts on opening superchargers easing people's concerns about ev charging overall, leading to faster adoption? Tried to post that idea above, not sure its clear.
@@brandenflasch I had a chat with a friend who owns a Tesla here in the SF Bay Area. He told me he visits a particular Tesla supercharger that is so busy and that he routinely sees Tesla drivers go across the street and charge at EA with the CCS adapter. I suppose CA is the tip of the spear for EV adoption, so not surprising.
3:00 the cable management is built into the top of it. There is a huge U spot to wrap the cable around. That is very confusing because it seems obvious. 8:10 you were suppose to wrap the cord around the U top of the charger.
Not the same as actual tethered cable management
@@brandenflasch I somewhat see what you mean but that is pretty hard with such a long cord. It would have to be really tall and have a long cord and and unwinding spring ... I guess they have them for garage ceilings. That'd be pretty odd tho on that small freestanding pole tho. I guess the main problem is that you can't depend on EV owners to be respectful of the next person and coil the cord up in a decent way.
@@Scott-sm9nm usually you’d have a tower with a cord
Owning a Tesla isn't for me but man, their system is slick. Makes zero sense why every other automaker and CPO is all complicated and clunky.
I'm really curious how Tesla is going to handle opening up their Superchargers in North America. We're seeing more and more hints of its arrival and there are so many questions! Will there be magic docks everywhere all at once? Will there be an adapter? Will it be as simple as the current CCS adapter but in reverse, or will it be a cable extender from the dispenser? Will Tesla implement a time limit to non-Teslas to keep them from camping out? How do European Tesla owners feel about seeing non-Teslas at Superchargers?
There's a good chance we may know a little more after their earnings call on Wednesday
Kinda steep pricing for L2 when they are doing 19 cents off hours at some NC super chargers. Cool that they offer it.
I think they will open up V4 installs and they will be more non Tesla user friendly stalls
Agreed, it’s overpriced, especially since it’s just incremental kWh usage at a Supercharger site and likely costs Tesla very little
We have AC Tesla billable charging in Australia too, this is good for all EVs
This is awesome!!!! Tesla is really really terrible at marketing their own products. I've been actively trying to figure out if this exists from Tesla themselves and they have literally zero information.
Finally I can go to some of the businesses in town and tell them it's game on.
Wait a minute….did we just get a sneak peak of something coming soon that starts with a T??? 🙌🏼
I believe we did. Blue T crew is adding another member.
Branden is getting a Trabant, I knew it
Once a credit card is on file that seems super slick in the app. Hope they open superchargers soon!
Clunky if you don’t already have a Tesla account though
@@brandenflasch Yeah, the first-time app set up is always a pain.
@@brandenflaschI set up a Tesla account just for this back in the Summer. Because Elon understands $ and then he had my CC. 😂
Did I see a model 3 order?
I’ve been skeptical whether Tesla is really interested in opening their SuperChargers to non-Teslas. I suppose I don’t understand the long “blackout” on anything official from them.
Do you think they'll add dual cable like they have internationally when they transitioned from Tesla to CCS2? or adaptor?
Hopefully adapter initially and then dual cable or something
It is a first step for the opening of the SC as we have in Europe. But the problem you have in the USA is that you do not use a standard cable as if we do in Europe, I do not know very well how Tesla could solve it ... same pomiendo 2 cables as in Europe in the V2.
Rebel :-) Did you get any Dirty Telsa looks?
Super cool.
Branden, have you looked into replacing your OC airbag with a Black Mountain ?
I haven’t yet
Interesting new option. Portends the supercharging opening to all?
It’s been in the app for probably a year or more
Very similar to how it works for Superchargers here in the UK - very exciting! Also, great way to give us a sneak peek of your new Model 3 - love the blue.
almost a title like "went to most expensive hotel" but you really just went to the subway in the basement.
Welcome to RUclips
@@brandenflasch have a look around.
So it was $1.74 to charge for additional 10 miles?
Dang I been L2 charging here for free since they opened up (and spending more at Starbucks.) 😂 guess they are charging for charging now. Cool video.
Tesla app showed "2 of 2 connectors available" but where was the other unit? On the other end of the Supercharger or just nonexistent?
Other end
@@brandenflasch Yeah, just saw it in the other video. 😉
Please for the love of all good things; Tesla sell us an adapter and let us charge CCS vehicles on the supercharger network!
Perfect location located next to Starbucks
From now on, Tesla has to sell the extension code so that it can be used on the Supercharger.
Getting model 3?
Nice video. Interesting. Too bad you need to have the app though, but at least they don’t take money on deposit.
It is a bit of a shame that Tesla doesn’t do guest payment better
@@brandenflasch it would be cool if you could just use Apple Pay via a webpage with no app.
@@ericroe agreed
Strangely they don’t offer this in Europe ^^ i mean we have the generation 3 wall connector with the qr where i was wondering for what reason and i know they have nfc hardware behind the “glasslike” faceplate (apple pay functionality?) but no usage so far and billing goes through tesla… hmm would be interesting
I would like to set up some wall connectors in the car garage i have for rent because they have load sharing are easy to install and maintain and cheap and i would have no problem if Tesla steps up to an energy provider and they sell me their energy and sell it through the wall connector and so on to the renters… i don’t want anything to do with billing for energy because Europe has crazy regulations and just easier you just give it for free then.
What leads you to thinking they have NFC behind the face plate?
@@brandenflasch ruclips.net/video/qsrTextE7ac/видео.html
right around the LEDs and the wifi is on the very top you can see the mini sma connector cable in grey going upwards to a flexible pcb antenna mounted on the housing around 1:50

@@brandenflasch ah that explains a lot!
for sure very interesting in these times :)
more in the software or hardware or managing and organizing?
the latest video where you mentioned that tesla interconnected the cabinet's dc lines was very insightful und of course unique and very efficient use of resources.
Nothing more than the destination chargers.
New model 3????
Great informative videos! Very interesting about the Tesla addition of level 2 charging. One observation I’ve made on your videos, you move around too much! It’s almost dizzying! Constructive criticism, try to stand still while filming. Great information on your videos!
Very interesting…..
So I have to wait 35 mins to change! give me gas ⛽️
I think more level 2 at places like shopping, theaters etc. makes a lot of sense. As a Model Y owner, I will confess to some ambivalence about opening the Supercharger network up. I would be more open to it if I felt like CCS operators were a part of the solution....but the quality of their charging experience doesn't seem to be adding comensurate value to the overall ev charging experience. Why is it Tesla's responsibility to always solve problems that they had no part in creating. They are, for the most part, keeping their own charging house in order.
1 Charger and only 8 hours to charge what a deal.
I need the ability to limit the speed of the DC fast charge if the usage at the site is under 70%. Many times, I would like to purchase just enough energy to make it home. I might only need 15kWh. By the time I use the facilities and return to the car, I may have already taken 20 or more kWh from the charger.
I would use an AC charger if I were going to be there for more than an hour and only needed 50 miles of range.
Great video. But why are you talking km, I'm sure almost your entire audience uses/understand miles.
I referenced km once - when talking about driving in Norway.
Speculating that Tesla will roll out this non-Tesla AC/Level charging option to Superchargers before rolling out CCS. Get the Telsa faithful use to seeing the unwashed CCS/CHAdeMO cars using Telsa network but not impact their ability to charge. Gives Tesla time to meet some of the Fed funding guidelines while figuring out an optimal rollout for CCS charging. Also proavtively dampen the foreseeable Tesla faithull outburst from a few when the CCS heathens arrive.
Almost 75 cents a miles.
With what math?
Here's my 2 cents. Tesla would be crazy to open up their network to non Tesla's at this point. Caveat..... I own a MYP, have a Rivian on order so I would love Tesla to open up. Caveat #2, Tesla shareholder, and as a shareholder, do not want the network opened up. Tesla just cut pricing and is in a competition war with the upcoming EV's. What is the ONE thing they have over their competition? The supercharger network. They put the pressure on with the pricing, but need to keep the pressure on with the competitors that they lack public charging, Why would you give the competition the one thing they lack? Brandon, you as so biased. If you owned a Tesla, would you want them to open up? If you had your life savings in Tesla stock, would you want them to open up? These are fair questions. To whom benefits Tesla opening up? Yes, Yes the mission... but Tesla put this network in, and Tesla should self preserve in these upcoming economic challenges. I am second guessing my Rivian order for only one reason..... charging. I road trip my Tesla. It is soooo painless road tripping in my Tesla. . Can I road trip in a Rivain in my area? Not without issues, so it sucks. RUclips is full of public charging pain. Brandon kinda makes a living stirring up this controversy, but I see this all over the web these same headaches. This is Tesla's time to show why you shouldn't buy anything but a Tesla. My Rivian timeframe is Q3. It Tesla open's up, it's a done deal and will get the Rivian. If not.......... We'll see, but it's not looking promising. The fact that this is my thinking should be an eye opener for Tesla
Opening the network simply makes economic sense.
@@brandenflasch For WHO? Economic sense for Tesla? N have no idea. But what I do know as a consumer looking to buy one of the competitors, would I buy if it wasn't opened up? NO. The public charging network is a sh....t show. Big oil is getting into it in my area. Chevron and Shell. They had how many years to copy Tesla?? again, Shi,..... I have several in my area. I have used both those networks in my area. They suck. Should I sell my Tesla for a Rivian? Right now, HARD no. Q3... ? If things don't change...NO Tesla should stand their ground. They have their competition dominated in the charging space, and now also in price.
Yes, for Tesla it makes sense
Brandon. carefull how you prepare your response. You will show your Bias. Who's side are you on? If Tesla opens up, what motivation is there for others to improve public charging? Without Tesla, they have no choice. For the greater good. we know what needs to happen. So many non Tesla's rolling out these days, where are they going to charge? 2035 no fossils? I highly doubt that
I think the key is that Tesla will be very selective in regard to which superchargers they open to all, much like they are in Europe. The easiest ones to open up will be the new V4 locations which can be designed with more stalls and connectors to support all models. The next easiest would be those further away from population centers that are currently very underutilized. The busy stations in the metropolitan areas would seem to be very unlikely to ever get opened to other makes of cars since they are already a scarce resource as it is.
I have no skin in this game, yet but I don’t see any reason why Tesla needs to ‘open up “ their charging network.. I presume that Tesla designed, built, installed, leased or paid for the land, and paid for their charging Superchargers. I presume that Tesla included the costs of their charging facilities into the price of their cars and each Tesla owner/customer has paid into the system. If you liked that system and bought a Tesla, the network was part of the reason for your purchase. Now we have individuals who for a variety of reasons, did not buy a Tesla but a competing brand that uses a CCS system. Unfortunately, the CCS charging systems are not anywhere as good as Tesla’s system and the EV CCS folks would like to use Teslas Superchargers because they would not have to put up with the inadequacies of the CCS chargers and the pathetic broken units found all across the USA. The none Tesla owners were duped into thinking that all of the charging companies were equal and they are not. Let the buyer beware! If Tesla opens up their Superchargers to all CCS cars then the owners should pay the initial cost that all Tesla owners paid in their vehicle cost. If not, then the price of the electricity bought at the Superchargers should be prorated to incorporate that cost differential. If Tesla opens up its Superchargers to all what will be the incentive for the CCS charger companies to improve their miserable current service? Who are the winners and who will be the losers? If you travel extensively or you need to charge at Superchargers, then buy a Tesla!
8 hours to charge? WTH. Did you get a hotel room
Nearby? 😂
I was just there to test it, but if I was going to work out at the LA Fitness there on a regular basis it could be useful
@@brandenflasch I charged my Tesla there last time I was here. Its a nice new facility. I missed the L2 charger because it was late in the evening. Nice find!
@@brandenflasch Did you find a DC fast charger for R1T in Winston-Salem?
As most EV owners realize, there is rarely any need to fully charge from 0-100%. We have a home charger but haven’t plugged in a month because we use a Level 2 charger at the gym 3-5 times a week.
This is how Tesla gets around the requirement to provide charging for other vehicles. Just put in a L2 at each one, lol.
