I don’t think you understand how liberating it was for me to hear you say “ the ratio is never the same. I don’t want it to be the same.” If you only knew just how stressed I would get over mixing colors.. It sounds so silly because in the end… it’s just paper, if you don’t like it, throw it out. But I can’t even tell how fearful I’ve always been to “ mess it up” or not remember how much of what color I used and where. It finally makes sense! You are right. It doesn’t need to be the exact same color. It can lean a little this way or a little that way. It gives it so much more interest when artists do that anyway, that I don’t even know how I never realized this myself!

I have had many students that thought that the color mix always had to be the same. It's completely untrue. No.1 you want to mix colors on the paper. No.2 anytime you grab the two or three colors, you always want to have a different ratio of those colors, so the blending looks natural, so that 'color you are creating has different shades to it. I have seen some RUclips videos about "how to avoid colors separating on the paper 🙈" "how to create a perfect color mix" which is hurting a beginner in watercolor 😢.

Gorgeous! My favorite colors are pink and orange. My favorite flower is Ranunculus. I think you’d nail it if you tried a Ranunculus in either of those colors especially with your Holbein quinacridone la you have. Your inspiring and truly amazing. I’ve got a lot of respect for you! Hugz, Tree
