Keep doing the things you do exactly as you are doing them, love your honesty and openness. Thank you for the work you put into the videos and for sharing.
Great video Tom and farther keep up the great work enjoy your summer. Have fun .and your video's have inspired me to get a weekend job farming. Cheers Tom.
I luv your dad, he's so passionate and does a fantastic job job of describing smell and allsorts makes me wish I hd smeallagram. You should chuck him a camera and set him up a little vlog channel lol.
If we have to close a silo, we always "shower" the bleed with an mix of propionic acid and water (2:8) using a watering can. Sorry for horrible english. Greetings from Germany.
Good stuff Tom can almost smell it from here . Was only about 40 mins from your place on Saturday but was on a run from Northampton to Glasgow for an impulse buy so couldn't stop off but I fully Intend to come visit the shop soon!
Do you need any farm hands, the experience would be pay itself, may need accommodation but I'd be happy to help Tom, keep up the good work and videos!!!
It is good to see an old school farm. Here in the US all the small farms were bought out by larger farms or built up with houses. I watch the millennial farmer it is amazing the shear size of the equipment they have. They don't even have to drive they just program the fiel into the tractor and it runs the route. Is that how you store your hay?
I was watching some other silage operations and noticed that they cut their cover tires down the middle. from the looks of the others doing it this way it looks much easier for handling the tires, storing, amount used etc. I don't know how they split the tires but if it was easy enough, I would say it looks like it might be a better way of doing things. Anywho love the vids and keep up the good work.
Hi Tom, couldn't you put the front of the 1st cut in the barn area and cover the 1st cut back up to stop any waste. Another great video. Say hi to the ginger warrior.
I worked on a Dairy/Beef farm for a few years.Thats the smell of money the mix of Manure,Silage,Cows it was a strong mix of smells when I first started but I got use to it pretty quick.Good Corn Silage and Haylage smells good to me,when you are cleaning out the Tanks that's never gonna smell good but it got tolerable lol
"Spent grains" from a brewery. Cows usually like lighter grains, not specialty grains which have been through Maillard Reactions. But you can blend them.
I grew up with a combination of the smell of haylage and diesel fumes from tractor in enclosed area..mmmmmmh. I like the Swiss Browns, great temperament and excellent bag confirmation. But as a Friesian myself, somewhat biased towards 'our' breed. We bred Friesian horses too.
You use thin plastic compared to what we use. Nice tire job this last week we went to a FORAGE AND FEED research dairy in Prairie du sac Wisconsin on each pile were five full tires an about ten side walls off car tires. Being we run 700 cows in Minnesota we have four bunkers the smallest holds about two of yours the largest filled full holds ten, and the only plastic you see is the centers of the tires.
That's a hell of a lot of tyres to cut and its not that easy to cut a tyre maybe drill a few holes in the tyre wall but even at that it's hardly worth doing to avoid getting splashed.
Decent band saw, and a brave competent operator. Or wiz a decent stilly round em. Only problem may be any loose wire which is a nightmare on your hands if they pin prik. Ouch! Still enough weight when cut in half and less to man handle about.
Keep doing the things you do exactly as you are doing them, love your honesty and openness. Thank you for the work you put into the videos and for sharing.
John Long Thanks John, means a lot that 😀

Now that would be different your hill farm. Look forward to that
Quick question Tom, would you ever strip graze your cows on your pit, or have a system where it doesn’t involve a diet feeder?

I like watching Millineal Farmer too,it's sad but true not alot of small farms left at least here in NC

Hi Tom, couldn't you put the front of the 1st cut in the barn area and cover the 1st cut back up to stop any waste. Another great video. Say hi to the ginger warrior.
Great video. How many acres of grass you do on the first cut?
Maybe you could drill some holes in THE tires so the water can drain out. It would make a bit less of a mess maybe?
fredmja97 thats smart but it makes it lose a bit of weight
Thanks to you Tom I have started up my own farm RUclips
Good video Tom, informative as ever! Silage looks good 👌
hi tom put some box muck on the sheet when you seal clamp back up it is flexible and settles with the clamp thus keeping out the air
david cornforth Dad was saying to do this aswel
Greetings from Spain dude, watching all your videos
Tom. At 13:48 why do you have a dead crow next to the clamp hanging from the feed tower

How come you don’t cut your tires in half so they aren’t so heavy and hold water?
Yes, curerd hay has a beautiful boucay
Used Draff From Brewery's and Distilleries. From Mashing process 🙂
"Spent grains" from a brewery. Cows usually like lighter grains, not specialty grains which have been through Maillard Reactions. But you can blend them.
why not put the stuff in the back of the second salage pit
Second cut is 3 weeks off at most, last year it was done middle of September, year before it was done in October. This year is great
You need to get as much this year tom

We opened ours a couple of weeks ago cows love it with that and the after cut they're grazing they're milking like stink
9:12 eye spy, a drone in the sky!
Quality, especially Father Tom,,,
An interesting video silage looks about perfect, will only get better with the second cut. That is of course some one doesn't forget to shut the gates.
We're using woodchips as weight on top of the clamp and we take the woodchips gradually off when opening the clamp.
Do you recycle your tires?
Class video really enjoy watching your videos keep up the good work 👍🏻
Calves seemed to love it. Great video as usual Tom!
I’m one of the “non-ags” whose just here to see the cows 🐄 lol. Love seeing how dairy farmers work.
13:31. Is that a black bird hanging on the left side of the pole?
silage is the best then you get all the tire silage water all over you 😂😂😂😂😂😂 love the vids
Tom I have a question: is ther a black crow strung up on vid
Nice Crow @04:09 :D
@Bin man Fan hanging nicely from the pole

Great video as normal Tom, I was thinking, of you could have any new tractor or equipment what would it be?

Very interesting. Even if I did only understand 3 words.
Whey the little IH got some action I love international
Tom, do you leave young stock in sheds for first summer.
John Finney We do if they are under 6 months of age
Hi Tom are you in Ireland or England or Scotland
Manitou bucket needs repair before it pulls the bottom out.
Is the bio product from the brewery draf
Keep it up tom great work 👌🚜🚜🐄🐄
what's with the dead bird?
torpa15 a crow
Keep other crows away from the feed and making a mess
Lovely looking silage guys
Another good video. Thank You.
Why don’t you use silo seal
SLICE tyes in half stop the water collecting inside. Stops your being smell all day.
Good idea
Tyres aren't easy to cut. Some have wire or kevlar inside the thick rubber. Sounds like a proper ball ache to me.
That's a hell of a lot of tyres to cut and its not that easy to cut a tyre maybe drill a few holes in the tyre wall but even at that it's hardly worth doing to avoid getting splashed.
Why would you do that? You want weight...
Decent band saw, and a brave competent operator.
Or wiz a decent stilly round em.
Only problem may be any loose wire which is a nightmare on your hands if they pin prik. Ouch!
Still enough weight when cut in half and less to man handle about.
Pretty kol video bud.
I liked it.👍
