I just can't help but find adorable how all enemies gather around one and play ring-around-the-rosie
Worth mentioning the Dead Fly enemies will give Eternal Flies to other enemies in the room if possible before summoning Attack Flies
Also, Lookers will all attack in unison while unarmored
All the Specturn rooms are cool

@@ghifariasoka8272 Nah it wasn't to my knowledge, it was a concept for a different enemy that was repurposed into Specturn.
It was criminal in base Isaac how barren cathedral was with unique enemies for such a neatly designed level.
the excelsior version of the cathedral theme is probably my favorite track in any isaac soundtrack ever. i end up going this path more often than not just to listen to it.
i agree SO hard with you, everything about inexorable is just **chef kiss** perfect for an isaac track
Inexorable makes me wish this place was a final area, everything about it + Fiend Folio's new enemies really hammer home just how crucial it is to Isaac's journey of passing peacefully.

This floor unironically has some of the coolest and most inspirational enemies hands down. Screw Ms Dominator, sign me up for a road trip to heaven.

Really. Let me phrase it like this. People like Sheol's enemies mostly for that one lady(even though Psi Hunter gets overlooked, having an enemy that fights other enemies is cool af). People like Cathedral enemies for the concepts.

One thing I really like about Fiend Folio is how they reuse sound effects in the game for different purposes. A great example is the Chorester using a pitch shifted soul heart sound
I love the unconditional rule that EVERY single mod's best song will be for Cathedral.
Happy to see that all the enemies here have horrifically unusual numbers of eyes, I'd take nothing less for a Biblically-accurate army!

My one and only complaint with this floor is that the purple creep doesn't slowly slide towards Isaac.
The guitar of this floor’s theme puts a tear to my eye.
First of, I'm ngl, the music almost made me tear up. It really feels holy, like we're being judged by a higher power. Second of all, I really like the enemy choices here. Pre Repentance Cathedral feels really... Idk, rushed? Like it's just a collection of enemies with no holy or religiois theming. Repentance gave us Holy Eyes and Holy Mulligans, which are a good start, but Fiend Folio goes a step further with the holy theme and even adds these abstract, polygonlike aliens, maybe referencing how higher ranking angels aren't humanoid looking
Though I'm surprised the Effigies and Enlighteneds don't spawn in Mausoleum too. That, and I think I may have seen an older version of the Choristers in DeviantArt

@@Rosscaz Tbh I don't have to play as Blue Baby, and even if I did, Cathedral's context as a place that symbolises Isaac's feeling of how he doesn't deserve salvation is sad enough regardless of all the poop jokes Edmund loves

We're slowly starting to reach the end at that point, only a few floors left. Only thing left to do is hoping that the next ones are as good as the previous floors, cause we got some fucking bangers recently. Love the use of homing tears and more Laserbeams which together with the gravedigger gives the Cathedral some much needed Identity besides "the floor before the chest".
The Cathedral Rating: 8/10
Personal favourite Enemy: Holy Wobbles. Not too annoying, very fitting and incredibly cute.
The eyes/statues that shoot a giant holy beam remind me of the Angels from ultrakills, which I think is sick
They're called Zealots and can also be found in Mausoleum. They really fit the angelic motif of the Cathedral

Love how alien some of these look and sound. Fitting for such a setting. Probably my favorite floor in FF, these designs are inspirational
y'know, what if they made a boss based on the Chakras? The enlightened and inner eye look pretty cool.

@@marooniballooni03759 Prolly a miniboss. Maybe not all Chakras would spawn, so maybe usually three to four of them, but you have to hit them in an ascending order
The Chorister is why this is the best looking floor in Isaac.

Honestly, I think FF should look into making more enemies for the Dark Room, Chest, and Void to give them some unique quality besides "spam bosses". AFAIK, they made one enemy for Dark Room, the Slim Shady, but it was only because of the name.

I love this so much. Repentance redressed the balance a little, but it was always a bit disappointing that the Cathedral had so many generic enemies and comparatively few unique, heavenly-themed ones. These nicely fill the niche!
Agree. Pre Repentance Cathedral kinda felt more like a boss rush with basic enemies. Glad they're taking the holy theme more seriously now in base game and mods. On a side note, I think Cathedral could benefit from a holy version of the rolling meat enemies themed around the ophanim for more challenge

Looking back, this is actually the 1st time I'm introduced to these guy's abilities despite playing FF for a month now and frequent Cathedral visits. At that stage of the game it's 5 seconds tops per room clear, no wonder.
The looker, watcher, and seeker all remind me of the Aurum from Kid Icarus Uprising!

All the homing tears really give the impression of god's omniscience. And angels, being extensions of god's will, carry that knowledge, thus making their attacks homing.

The way I see it, god (in this game) gave his angels homing shots to even up with the psions should they overtake hell and try overtaking heaven
