  • Part one of a full review on a great workstation from Yamaha originally released in 1999. Even though this unit may be the little brother of the PSR 8000 and 9000 workstations, it still packs a great amount of features, as well as sounds into a smaller portable package

could you show us how you compose and record on this? I have the manual and it is not clear how to do this -- to set up beats and a simple melody.

This keyboard is more advanced, but it is over 20 years old and was one of the best Yamaha home keyboards back in the day, the flagship at the time was the PSR-9000, the PSR-740 was a mid range so it was second best, the PSR-E463 is only over 2 years old and it is only an entry level keyboard compared to the PSR-740, but still both keyboards are great! I have the PSR-EW410 and will be getting a PSR-740 in the next couple of days

Can I ask you a question?
Can you upload music into the keyboard from a pc source and will the keyboard alter that uploaded sound to the keys in say different key or octave?
Or another words will it alter an uploaded sound in addition to the ones that Yamaha suppled?
    Thanks for the review.

Hi No, you cannot import sounds from other songs or a computer into the keyboard.

I use yamaha psr 740. Do you know how to remove vibrato effect while playing piano on yamaha psr 740?
Because I find it weird if piano sound has vibrato effect.
    Thx in advance.

Try turing the modulation knob down (the 2nd knob located on the left side of the keyboard) if that doesn't work turn the DSP effects off by pressing the designated buttons on the keyboard.

Thanks for trying - but you REALLY don't know much about the PSR-740. 'The REGISTER thing has something to do with CONNECTING TO THE NETWORK???' Really? The only thing you REALLY got right was that the keyboard was WAY ahead of its time...and, actually - in 2021 (I still have one) - its STILL a pretty good-sounding keyboard...

Can you actually play or just make videos about impromptu and rambling demos? The "Register" comment you make at 5:50 has nothing to do with "connecting to the network". The "Regist" feature shown on the display is for saving your own registration settings in the keyboard's internal memories, of which there are 132, but I guess you don't know anything about that either. When you say "review" in the video title, maybe you should just replace that word with "messing around", which is, after all, just what you are doing.

Please can this keyboard save voices in the registration memory for future use or will it go away after the keyboard is off for a period of time?

@@falayiolajide2678 Yes, you can save up to 128 registration memory settings in 32 banks of 4. However, they will not remain saved forever in the keyboard unless it is connected to a power supply (even if the keyboard itself is switched off), although they do stay saved for days without power. To preserve the registration settings reliably you can write them to the keyboard's floppy disk drive which uses old 3.5 inch disks. You can also save other features to disk like this (songs, styles, user multi pads etc.).
