Dionysus is a Greek god of art, fertility and wine; in Korean sul means alcohol and yesul means art, so they play on these words saying they are drunk on art and are always thirsty for more 😌 the leopards and the light bulb constellation above the stage are connected to the myth of Dionysus, and all the members represent different gods in their solo stages

til this day i can't believe this performance exists. it is without a doubt the most epic award show performance in history and globally. they really put it all on the table for us to see. this feels like big hit realised they had too much money left in their annual budget and needed to spend it all before the end of the year. money well spent in deed👏👏

Each year they got more time on stage and the performance got bigger. I don´t think any other artist were given so much time. This is almost like a BTS concert, heheh. Every solo moment was spectacular and Mr. President just comes walking, hahah, he need no more. His presence is amazing. Impressive that I have seen this performance A LOT of times and I didn´t catch that not only Suga but 2 other fell from the sides. Spectacular
finally getting to this one. The Awards shows can go up to 6 hours the shortest one I have watched is 4 and that was during the pandemic, the longest was closing in on 7 hours, not every group gets 40 minutes, but they usually have a couple of bigger sets.

They had an All Kill at this awards show, winning ALL major awards. I saw this performed live (there were no horses). But they did this followed by Not Today. No break.

I'm pretty sure the reason why this performance was so long was because for some reason the other three major companies in Korea were boycotting MMA, so they needed to fill in the time slots that were missing from the groups that normally performed. So because of that BTS was able to do a longer performance

I think?? it's been a few years obviously 😭 but yeah they have no reservations about hiring people from anywhere really. they have korean backup dancers but they also work with the lab frequently when they're abroad so they don't always have korean backup dancers. they have a close relationship with sienna lalau's crew (she choreographed dionysus) also fwiw the bit with the horses was prerecorded! no horses harmed in the making of this performance lmao

I hung in there with you through the pausing and the rants because I wanted to know what you thought of it. You will have to watch MMA 2018 and 2020. I like 2019 over the other two. 💜
40 min set is not normal at all, its a bts exclusive thing lmao, usually mama/MMA performers get around 5 to 10 min maximum. Since bts has been carrying these shows for over 5 years right now, they let them do their thing

If I remember correctly they closed out the awards. I think because they won most of the awards that year that their wasn't many other performances. I think TXT performed and my favorite K-band N.Flying (the ones in the audience that you thought looked familiar) won the award for Best Band that year for their song "Rooftop". I know I have recommended N.Flying to you before but I don't think you've ever reacted to them....or I missed it. They cover a lot of anime and game songs, which is why I recommended them before.
One of the sad things about K Pop is that fandoms become toxic against each other. Once it started becoming obvious that BTS likely was going to win multiple daesangs, the other two largest groups started finding excuses not to be present in what they deemed a coronation thus not triggering their fans by the sight of those groups sitting watching BTS. This opened larger performance windows as those groups would have been expected to perform. So yes in 2019 the absurdity of their absence became an absurdity of an enormous performance slot for BTS. 4th generation groups now are getting more time which as much as I love BTS is a more appropriate solution than BTS throwing its own concert.

I wanted to say that I really like your line-up here, especially your picks for Jin and Suga: Some lists have Jin as Ares riding in on a war horse, but Ares has bloodlust tacked onto his god of war moniker, and Jin just doesn’t come across as bloodthirsty in any way (I think his evilest deeds are his dad jokes and puns). On the other hand, I’ve always seen Athena with wisdom and heroism coming before war, and Jin is definitely a good guy who is smart. I’ve also seen Suga listed as Hades on lists, and while Hades is actually more of a neutral god rather than evil, Hephaestus seems like a better fit for Suga. Hephaestus was the god of fire, but he was also the god of artists and creators, and Suga has definitely crafted many works of art.
So no one followed BTS and they are always so extra. They paid themselves for all the extras stage stuff etc. hundreds of extras costumes etc to basically tell the whole damn industry who treated them so badly that we are gods above you and every bit of this performance is symbolic in some way to Greek myths and/ or our careers. No one else can do what we do. Even small details like Tae being Apollo god of wind and having the arielists in the air above him and Jimin as his twin Artemis and they each wore one earring of a set as the “twins”. They firmly said no one can do this on our level. They also took home most of the awards including the first time someone at MMA swept all 4 grand prizes and 5 other awards and a song Suga produced won too so they were not given a break all night. The whole show is 4 hours longs so their 40 mins was a lot.

Once it started becoming obvious that BTS likely was going to win multiple daesangs, the other two largest groups started finding excuses not to be present in what they deemed a coronation thus not triggering their fans by the sight of those groups sitting watching BTS. This opened larger performance windows as those groups would have been expected to perform. So yes in 2019 the absurdity of their absence became an absurdity of an enormous performance slot for BTS. 4th generation groups now are getting more time which as much as I love BTS is a more appropriate solution than BTS throwing its own concert.
So that is why the performance was so long! I always wondered ...

I wanted to say that I really like your line-up here, especially your picks for Jin and Suga:
Some lists have Jin as Ares riding in on a war horse, but Ares has bloodlust tacked onto his god of war moniker, and Jin just doesn’t come across as bloodthirsty in any way (I think his evilest deeds are his dad jokes and puns). On the other hand, I’ve always seen Athena with wisdom and heroism coming before war, and Jin is definitely a good guy who is smart.
I’ve also seen Suga listed as Hades on lists, and while Hades is actually more of a neutral god rather than evil, Hephaestus seems like a better fit for Suga. Hephaestus was the god of fire, but he was also the god of artists and creators, and Suga has definitely crafted many works of art.

So no one followed BTS and they are always so extra. They paid themselves for all the extras stage stuff etc. hundreds of extras costumes etc to basically tell the whole damn industry who treated them so badly that we are gods above you and every bit of this performance is symbolic in some way to Greek myths and/ or our careers. No one else can do what we do. Even small details like Tae being Apollo god of wind and having the arielists in the air above him and Jimin as his twin Artemis and they each wore one earring of a set as the “twins”. They firmly said no one can do this on our level. They also took home most of the awards including the first time someone at MMA swept all 4 grand prizes and 5 other awards and a song Suga produced won too so they were not given a break all night. The whole show is 4 hours longs so their 40 mins was a lot.
