Thank you for including “plant based “ in your videos I have been whole food plant based for just over a year now. I have lost 45 lbs, my blood pressure was 104/70 yesterday! I am totally doing this for my health. Last dr visit I was told “your cholesterol is lower than mine” 😁score!
Hi Jill! I always love you with your bandanna but I have to say, I’m Loving the hat! I did my first order from hoss tools a couple weeks ago. I got those colored cauliflowers. I’m looking forward to seeing your fall garden.
Always a pleasure to see your smiling face. I have a couple of spaces ready to go , I'll be planting tomorrow in early am , just too hot. Here is hoping that all of us will have successful Fall gardens...Amen
This was one of your most beautiful exuberant videos on the fall garden🤗 I so enjoy the joy you bring to all of us besides the wealth of info. Thank you and may our wonderful God continue blessing your family, all Glory goes to Him!
The jumbo banana squash is a wonderful roasting squash. That was always my favorite thing that my Grandaddy grew. I don’t have room for it in my current garden but it will be the first seed I buy when we move.
😊 Thank you for sharing. My biggest take away. 🥁 Drum roll. Have a plan for what you are growing🤦♀️ I planted a bunch of things we don’t normally eat on a regular basis and then don’t have a plan for the abundance that comes in😂 A good problem to have of course
My spring/summer garden didn't do well because my beds were very new and the soil wasn't good at all. Starting my fall garden and I've been amending my new beds and I'm real excited about how they're going to do this season.
Thank you Jill for this great information. We need all the information we can get. Just an idea, I would've love to see more preserving of the vegetables you grow. Canning, fermentation, freeze drying or water bath. Maybe Nathan cook a meal using your homegrown food and spices. Love the positivity on your channel. Take care and God Bless.
Jill can you please do a video explaining how you transition your beds from summer to fall? If we have limited growing space so we have to buy more compost or so the fall veggies have enough nutrition from the soil from summer? Can I use my tree leaves for nutrients in my fall garden or do I need to establish a compost area first before I can garden in fall? Thanks for your lovely videos!
I’m growing the honeynut right now and I planted 6 plants they are producing so many squashes I’m amazed I heard they taste amazing so I’m excited to eat them
Yes Fall gardening! Ive akready pulled out a few plants. My favorite is Bakers Creek. Ive had 100% germination. Im in StL & still have about 90 days so i can do a 🍅. I container garden living in a townhouse. Purple Reign is a great beef steak tomato that did very well. Baker Creek also has a couple self pollinating cucumbers. Ive had trouble with squash even pollinating. I hope this year is different. I dont ever plant til July/August.
My poor garden never really did much. Ripping everything out this week and getting set for fall. It was my first year gardening and Texas decided to misbehave this year! Also, did you say you were working on a fermentation course?
It is hot and humid in central Alabama. Last year, spring and fall, was my first attempt at gardening. It was an utter disaster, but I learned a lot about what not to do from it, and a lot more about how to garden from gardening channels, and a few good books. My spring and summer garden, this year, has been largely successful, and I learned more, especially about how much to plant from each crop. I way overplanted lettuce and endive, underplanted Swiss Chard, planted the wrong type of spinach, and don't have the right growing conditions for bulb onions. I am going to grow that success this fall, and next spring, my garden will be bountiful.
I’ve been growing honey nut and buttercup-the honey nut has done fantastic-disease and pest haven’t been an issue at all-however the buttercup grew great but I fought squash vine borers really bad! I’m excited to try the smaller spaghetti squash you mentioned!
Oh, how I wish I could have a fall/winter garden. I love learning about your adventures in growing food! I live in northern lower Michigan, zone 4B. We get one crop a year, so we have to make it count. Right now I'm preserving green beans. Our tomatoes won't be ready until the end of August. Our first frost is at the end of September, so I hope the squash and pumpkins I planted will be ready before then, or I won't be eating my own this year. Please keep on sharing, we love you and your homestead!
I have the same struggle. I’m in Saskatchewan, zone 3b. My squash and melons still haven’t set fruit and my tomatoes are nowhere near ripe yet. Made lots of mistakes, but I’ve already grown more than last year, so I have to take the wins!
I live in central Ohio, zone B, I think. I have always had a bumper crop of tomatoes on one side of my patio with lots of ripe ones by this time. This year I’ve not been well and I just got a plant today...Aug. 3. It was the last one, and struggling, in front of Kroger from a batch I’d seen there a couple or three weeks previously! It was totally dry and one of the small green tomatoes on it had dropped off and was down beside the stem. It was being ignored and that’s why I got it, although thinking It might be too late to have luck with it. I’ve never planted anything this late, except mums. Think of me with lucky wishes when you are out in your gardens!
My why... much of my winter consists of -40°C days and even colder with the windchill. 😂 I've tried fall gardens... I just don't have enough space or planting time. I have to plant my summer garden early to mid June then my fall garden I'd have to plant by early July. So when I'm trying to plant my fall stuff, my summer crops are really just getting established. Gotta love Canada. 😅
Hi Jill, love the enthusiasm. I'm finishing my summer garden with red potatoes, Lemon Squash, and Yellow Scallop squash--planted yesterday. I have tons of beans, and may need more freezer space very soon, and I have another crop that is just starting to flower--Dragon Tongue, Golden, Blue Lake, and Cantare beans. I've already planted Purple Dragon, Kyoto Red and Uzbek Yellow Carrots, rutabagas, and turnips. Coming up, I will be planting Yod Fah, Chinese Cabbage, Bok Choy, Radishes, more turnips, beets, lettuce, endive, Swiss Chard, spinach, kale, mizuna, tatsoi, mustard, kale, and peas. I'm in the process of adding another 4x8 raised bed, so I can fit it all without having to pull up my peppers--No way, they stay until frost. I'm looking forward to fall tomatoes, Roma, Bonny's Best, and Dad's Sunset. I'm still getting a lot of cucumbers, with new vines replacing the old. I am going to try to keep the garden going year round with low tunnels.
I love the idea of growing lots of food with seeds, but I always say ‘if they grow’ when I plant them. I attempted to grow lots of squashes recently and only 1% actually started in the garden. Luckily I already have spring planted seeds going, but do you ever question if seeds you buy will even start?
Jill, how long do your ferments keep in the frig? I read today you can make kraft and process 10min in water bath to be shelf stable. Can you do that with others??? Jes from NC AR
Jill thank you for your generous spirit and all you share. First time I have heard you referring to yourself as mostly plant based. Do you still eat the meat you raise? Would like to see your some of your plant based meals. Fantastic information about Fall growing season- zone 5a I can grow kale through to Nov and am encouraged to broc after watching this.
What do you do for your Brussel sprouts i live in Jacksonville Arkansas growing in hightunnel have had no luck growing 😢have been using hoss seeds all my other seeds do great
I'm in zone 8b are you planting all the brassica now? Starting inside or direct sow? It's still very hot here in Central TX our 1st frost date is November 11th. Thank you!
Why? Because our first average frost is September 20. We have only 120 growing days in the year. (We don’t have a greenhouse, but it’s on the “blueprint”.) 🤞🏻
Question. I live in California my first frost isn't until December. I was thinking I should start my cauliflower and cabbage around September 1st, is that right or should I start some now? We have had 100°days at the end of September. Thank you!
I have a question and for all i know, ull answer it in the video, BUT how do u grow during winter if u have to shut off the garden hoses so they dont freeze? I have to water somehow lol so i dont understand
Thank you for including “plant based “ in your videos

My absolute favorite is a fall and winter garden. Less pest pressure, easy storage, yummy roots and deeply comforting meals.

When I was growing up. I remember my grandma baking pies with the banana squash. I miss those days so so much.

Some of our gardens are just starting here up North! ;) First tomatoes and cucumbers coming in, there is a lot of fresh eating finally!
Thankful to know that there is a RUclipsr that I like watching that is plant based! We have been for 3 years and have really enjoyed the switch!!
The jumbo banana squash is a wonderful roasting squash. That was always my favorite thing that my Grandaddy grew. I don’t have room for it in my current garden but it will be the first seed I buy when we move.

I am in the same boat! West Texas heat has been awful

I love Southern Exposure Seed Exchange; they have more old fashioned varieties (OP & hybrids) that are more southeast US specific.
I love the small wonder spaghetti squash. It’s perfect for my family because I’m the only one who eats them. 😃
Oooo, can’t wait to see how the purple Brussels Sprouts do! Brussels Sprouts are one of my favorite brassicas.
You look super bright and cheery today. 😊
Hello Whispering Willow Farm. The sound is working fine and you sound great as always - and your smile is as bright as a sunflower.

Would love to see how u set up the insect netting with the wire you spoke about for the brussel sprouts! 🌱💚

I lost my garden between lack of rain and heat. The bugs did a job on it. I’m in SE Arkansas zone 8a
Oh no so sorry to hear
Purple brussle sprouts? Yeah, that would look really cool with some fermented cabbage. Can't wait to see what you think.
I have tried and tried to grow Brussels sprouts and horrible times. I would love for you to do a from seed to harvest video on Brussels sprouts!!!
hugs from pam and john keep it coming 😇🥰😍😍🤩
Great content, Jill and oh my goodness you just look so extra cute today
