Can i ask, is American Cherry this different to European? The bark looks scots pine. Cherry here (UK) has ribbon blistering etc. If i saw this tree as it is i would of said “yeah its pine”. I know to not go by bark alone, and i can see the grain is very tight so i would guess its not. But is this a fruiting cherry or an ornamental? I find this fascinating. Great video as always by the way
Just curious...your accent sounds definitely sounds Southern. Do you live in the Southern United States? I'm not trying to be nosy, just curious, as I said. I'm a Virginian, born & raised. We have a good lumber company not even 10 miles from where I presently live. Augusta Lumber is it's name, and it's located near Fishersville, Virginia. Just curious as to whether you'd ever heard of it or not. Anyways:have a great day, & thanks again for posting this video. I love me some Cherry wood products. They're beautiful!!!
Your channel is the best on RUclips. Appreciate all the time you spend on cameras and explanations. Thanks for keeping it clean my grandson enjoys watching these with me. Just got my first sawmill and learning so much from you thanks again.
Wow. I don't work in wood or fallen trees or anything like this, but, I truly appreciate what nature can provide us in what we either fell or has fallen. It's nice to see what you do to provide us with what we may have in our own kitchens and dining rooms due to what nature can provide. Thank you for also providing an explanation and why you do things the way that you do them.
I love Your show , I worked in a Paper Mill for 40 tears , I started out in the wood room where we chipped up Hardwood logs , we did a lot of big logs I often wonderd what the figure was like in the Big Logs we made into chips , Most of what we chipped up was Elm as the Dutch Elm Disease was killing trees then , But we had other Trees then too
You are a good teacher I'm 80 years plus and I'm learning off you , thanks. The cherry in the UK I have found if you leave it laying about it soon rot's from the bark inward.
This was one pretty amazing log Nathan. It is pretty obvious that you were 'over the moon' with it & with very good reason. Wonderful slabs for sure. cheers, Don from South Aust.
Beautiful land, beautiful cherry and great music! What could be better? Thanks Kindly! Now to the next video. Can't wait to see the next slabs from this lovely cherry! DaveyJO in Pa.
i was not expecting any unusual figure in cherry, what a gorgeous piece, cant wait to finish my other projects so i can continue building my mill, keep the video's coming, i just might have to put a couple projects on the back burner.
I’m glad I just discovered your channel. I’ve been sawing logs on an old band sawmill for about a year and a half learning as I go and it really nice to watch someone who knows what they are doing on portable bandsaw. Thanks for the uploads bud.
Just stumbled upon your channel - really enjoying your videos; your topic is engrossing, especially your narrations, and you do an amazing job with the photography and music.
My grandfather was a supervisor sawyer in commercial mills, and I know he would enjoy this video. He was good at what he did, but the equipment 60-70 years ago was more labor intensive than today.
Wow Nathan, you must have been on Santa’s good list this year!! What a delight to see that cherry wood. Just magnificent ! Cannot wait to see the other slabs. Thanks so much for explaining all about the pith and the splits! All the very best. Graham 🇬🇧🇬🇧
I don’t mind waking up during the night when I have an OTW video waiting to be watch. Never a disappointment. Beautiful wood; you really luck out or you know what you are doing, haha. Thank you for sharing ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Nice. In order of my thinking - 1) The opening music is so much nicer than the sound of the hydraulics. 2) What’s the difference between the pith and the heart? Thank you for teaching us city folks about the sawing process.
Cherry is one of my favorite wood species to work with. Because of the beauty of it woodgrains.....and it fruity smell! I tend to go for the darker old-growth ones, because the grains are more beautiful, the aromas being stronger, and you don't get that with the younger, light-colored ones as often anymore.
Even the middle between the bottom heart and the crotch has some wiggly define lines which give it some open wood running for good doors or table top...This piece has dollars written all over it and a happy customer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful log; and yes Cherry is underrated! I milled up a good sized Cherry tree 2 was ago and because of the beautiful grain inside there were no scraps. Nothing but charcuterie and slabs with amazing blood red figure, burl and crotch. Keep up with the great videos✌️
Love me some good crotch wood! I have built 2 sets of custom kichen cabniets form Cherry wood. Both were beautiful but no crotch wood was used. The best stuff is usually reserved for firearms, dinning tables, or high end bowl turning. Wish you were closer, as I now am a woodturner and we certainly could do business! Thanks for sharing your day and work with us!
Wow what a tree thats the most beautiful cherry i have ever seen. Cant wait to see the rest of it. Would love to have that slab. Unfortunately im out of the shop for the next month because of an emergency surgery i had yesterday
Two thumbs up 👍👍, that’s some purdy cherry 🍒, hope to see more! Haven’t seen any oak/ red-white and quartercut , perhaps on older videos. Keep up the good work!
GREAT TUTORIAL THERE NATHAN, FOR THE 1'z WHO DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT WOOD & IT'S GROWTH FORMING.... THAT UNDERSIDE OF THE 1st. SLAB CUT WAZ JUST A BEAUTIFUL LOOKIN PIECE. ( KNUCKLE👊🏽BUMP ) O.T.W./Nathan.....
I've sawed a lot of cherry and some of the things I love about it is it'll surprise ya. It also has a pretty decent longevity after being cut if you don't mill it right away. I also like that it has some dark lines in some grain that mimics spalting at times. Great video!
There are a few Woodmizer owners who have extended the width of their sawmill by cutting the main frame in half and bolting in an extension to increase the width of cut after installing a longer blade. There are several RUclips videos that show the process.
So I guess that I'm different I really like checking in the tables that I make I think that I make more money on those pieces just found your channel and love watching thumbs up friend
My momma had a cherry baby grand piano. Sure miss rubbing that wood! Watching the mill spit out that dust towards the cub cadet. Was worried it might hit it! Lol
Man, you sure do have a great job. It's like a surprise package each time.you cut into a ugly log and the beauty is inside. What a pleasure to see inside.I am a new viewer. Where do you sell your wood? How can I buy your cured product. I am a newbie so I will ask question. I'm 73 and have limited knowledge of this.
Be sure to follow me on Instagram to see whats going on between videos.

Cherry and oak are my favorites. Dad milled the cherry on his mountain house lot. Turned it into cabinets Awesome stuff.

That cherry is nice, but I still think it might come in third to Walnut first and Chestnut second. They are all beautiful wood. Good sawing, saw man.
Great looking slabs I could make a lot of nice stuff with that.
Thanks buddy

I always loved cherry, made some knife scales from it and was surprised at how hard the wood really is.
Holy smokes, nice cherry!
thanks James,

Good stuff.
