Urbex: ABANDONED Heaving House

  • Explored this abandoned house in the Spring of 2015. This video features an exploration of an abandoned dilapidated house built in the 1830s that has a military background being home to one of Canada's greatest military leaders during the First World War. He was born in this house during the 1800s. It has been abandoned since December of 2012 and used as a party house since. It was abandoned after the municipality order they remove a wood stove that was dangerously installed and install smoke detectors. Smoke detectors were installed since and the wood stove removed by order of the fire chief. The land is owned by farmers who farm the land and would sometimes rent the house out. Since the municipality order along with the state of disrepair of the house, they have left it to sit and eventually fall into itself or have it demolished, whichever comes first. Historians wanted to fix it up to preserve the memory of this military hero's childhood home, but it's just too far gone. I'm hoping my video will help serve that purpose. An upstairs bathroom leak caused the kitchen ceiling to collapse, and the exterior bricks are crumbling. The basement has experienced a lot of frost heave which has affected parts of the foundation, so not that easy to repair. Enjoy! :)

One kid visiting an abandoned house would wander around thinking how cool and atmospheric it was. Two or more and they have to smash it up.

Once the heat gets turned off and some windows get busted out, it doesn't take too long for paint to start peeling off. Mostly it's just latex painted over oil based paint or on a too glossy or dirty surface. Only takes a few days of that freeze-thaw cycle to do it's dirty deed.
The problem with heaving on that house comes from the way the additions were added with rain runoff coming back towards the main house off from the add-on roofs. Water finds it's way around to the foundation instead of away from it, freezes and thaws a lot and ice causes it to rack and twist the foundation.

Hi Pam I'm a senior in Alberta, I stumbled across one of your videos quite by accident about a week ago. Ever since, any free time I have I'm sitting here watching all of your explores and enjoying them immensely! You could say I am addicted to them now LOL I'm just going to keep going until I can't find anymore. I know you posted this one over a year ago now so I don't know if you'll even see this, but I wanted to ask if you still do this. I sure hope so, you're so good at it and your videos are an absolute pleasure to watch and listen to. Kudos for taking nothing but video and leaving everything as it was. Today happens to be Canada's 150th. birthday, so Happy Canada Day! xox

"Someones been smoking up in here",, that made me laugh! I love your commentaries on your video's. Those guitars were for video games, guitar hero or rock band. It's funny how you being a bird lover , you seem to find birds often, I'm sure its better than finding spiders or bee's. Thanks for the adventure!

Just came across your video, and very glad I did - you are the best - no question about it! Wonderful documentation, and so well filmed as usual. Like I've always said, there should be a TV documentary called "Tiki's Exploration of Abandoned Homes"… definitely your narration and filming are so much better than what is on TV!
The basement of this house is particularly unnerving, I've never seen anything like it. I wonder what causes it. Hate the destruction by vandals - never could understand why they would do this. You share my love of birds, and horror of spiders! *shared by my daughter as well. Please keep on filming these homes… miss you.
