- EA SPORTS F1 24 has a tough task when it launches for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One & Xbox Series X/S at the end of May. Is it just a re-skin or can clever new features convince enough players to buy it again? We tried it to see how it drives, if the new driver rankings, improved R&D and the new Challenge career make for a better experience than F1 23.

Handling and physics as #1 segment - that's my man! 👍🏻
excellent preview, michel. thanks bro
Do they have motion control steering on PS5 like in GT7 or is it just thing stick control for those that don’t have a wheel?
Played the beta. The handling is better on a joypad now generally, easier to turn tight corners!
What is a joypad? Gamepad/controller?
@@bernardoberner4 Yes, a combination of 'joystick' and 'gamepad'
On the fence on this one. I might get it while waiting for the next Assetto.
I play iRacing, but sometimes it is stressing with the strict penalty system and demotion and angry people cursing at each other.
ACC is my relaxing game and F1 2023 is now taking a backseat. Never player online TBH.
I wonder if anyone else noticed, that after playing F1 2023 you have to restart your PC and/or your wheelbase (Fanatec DD pro) because it somehow permanently locks it into weird limits, so you cannot play iRacing after playing F1 else your car won't turn... Might be F1, driver or firmware :O
So dunno. I got in the habit of doing laps on a track where the real F1 race is going to happen, and some tracks only exist in proper form in F1. E.g. Monaco. I would generally do that with ACC as I can handle that speed, while F1 is sometimes a bit too much for my old senses.
It's a fun practice that makes you understand why accidents happen at certain spots on the track. Also makes it more fascinating to see what speeds/gears they are pushing at a place where you barely make it in 1st gear, hitting both kerbs....
Just my 2c .... I will probably jump into a couple of on-line races this week on 2023, and see how it feels. If I am just doing solo I will stay on 2023.
ps: I am not crazy about playing as the real drivers. The whole story/celeb aspect just makes it weird for me. Teams/brands are OK but I would prefer an easier way of doing a quick race. Select track, car, laps, weather, time of day, GO.
Sounds good will pick it up 😊
So, any initial setup suggestions given your opinion on the handling?
I will just buy the EA Subscription and play this game for 5 hours and never buy full price 😂😂
From what I’ve seen online most people are relatively negative on the handling, the cars turn really sharply but too a point where it seems overdone, this seems to benefit controller players in terms of realism but early tests show that controller could be up to a second a lap slower if not more, new career mode changes look great, it’s really needed a refresh
The thing is that Lando Norris said that this year's game is way more realistic because the F1 cars turn much more intensely in real life than in F1 23 and that it's much closer than ever to how his real car feels... also he played against the 110 AI which all the RUclipsrs are whining about how fast it is and he was faster than it... so in my humble opinion I think the game is more realistic now and now it's much easier for a real driver to be the fastest than for someone like Jarno Opmeer or Blakeley or Ronharr or some other E Sports racer... which for me it's a good thing... plus I'm sorry but if you see an on-board on a real F1 car you notice that they drive with very small wheel movements... the angles that they turn the wheel are very small... they go 90 degrees ONLY on U turns or very low speed turns... unlike e-sports... therefore to be the fastest you need to not overdrive the car at all (overdriving is a term for turning the wheel more than the optimal angle) which is extremely challenging for everyday people and even RUclipsrs...
Anyway, I'm not saying the game will be a masterpiece but I'm sure that most RUclipsrs, if not all, that trash it, are just butthurt that they can't beat the 110AI on day one for click baiting...
This guy's review is much more level headed and mature... not a childish whining... I've pre-ordered the game (cause I was gonna buy it anyway, so whatever... for the price of the normal game I bought the champions edition) so I'm gonna play it tomorrow and see for myself (I think tomorrow is the pre-release?)
@@sportschool3537 This is a bad argument imo, Lando never said why he just said this game is "more realistic" which he also said for F1 22 which was far from realistic
Available on Steam deck?
Did test the Beta, but no real different with F1 23, maybe tighter FFB on my Fanatec DD+, but will keep F1 23 and will see next year again....waiting for AC Evo
Yeah AC Evo ain't coming this year
@@DeejayJeanP it is for 2024, but later is also good. Loving ACC at this moment
@@DeejayJeanPits already confirmed for this year
@@DeejayJeanP it is tho.
Try Iracing and never look back
Thanks for the pre review! And good to hear the last bit "It may not appeal to the hard-core simracer". I bought F1 2023 and went for a refund after I neglected the same end words. The F1 series has everything except FFB physics like in ACC or rF2, LMU. As soon as EA implements such physics, dedicated servers and modding they will win the complete PC simracing community. Till then I say: have fun with F1 2024, I will skip this one and hope for the best for 2025
4:07 Yikes, total disrespect to JPM(and to the champion's edition purchasers) for having that base rating.
Can’t wait for Tuesday next week
What is My Team like this year? Does it new features as Driver Career?
It does not have the new career features!
With Lewis off to Ferrari next season, I'll likely buy that one.
As a result, this year's will likely be a miss (or wait for a big sale) for me
Sounds like “gaming” hell.
TBH it looks like a .x patch for F1 23 so I am not really sold. Yes there is some new off track stuff and what looks like smaller updates to the handling but it overall looks kinda the same
The image at 4:38 already tells me to not buy this game.
The player have the fastest lap and is winning all the rivalry events with his teammate, but still loses pace rating because...reasons.
It's to balance it out so you're not just gaining and gaining until you're 99 at everything. You have to kind of 'use it or lose it' or your rating will start to decline in those areas like in real life.
It honestly makes sense you you have to keep performing at a high level to remain at a high rating.
Have they fixed VR do you know?
In which way? We will test VR in the release build! -Michel
Yeah, fix how? Playing 23 in VR and it works really well. Quest 3 4080 Super looks and moves good.
@@OverTake_gg In the way that it's really 'soft' - ACC and AMS2 have far better visuals and still run smooth - F1 23 with VR's highest settings may be smooth, but looks soggy in comparison. I have a Varjo Aero and ACC and AMS2 look great - F1 looks 'soggy'.
Ok, we will see 👍🏻
@@denesk2794 Works really well 🤣🤣🤣🤣
ive bought every game of theirs since 2020,even some before but haven't missed one since 2020 might skip on this one...they added 5 good things but destroyed 10 other...the handling looks like f1 2011 and they removed 1 track...why should i pay full price when i have 2023 and i can mod it
downgrade perez to 82 atleast.
GREAT EXPLINATION
shame EA still releases a "new" game every year instead of just charging $20 for yearly updates
How did they gatekeep this mod dude? I gotta know!
I played the beta and find the driving is worse, it's more unreallistic and doesn''t feel good nor rewarding to drive. But other than that I would belive you if you told me I was playingF1 23. To end on a good note, I find the AI is improved, it's similar to last year but now they will defend better and not open the door all day, also they are more aggressive and can maintain a fight all lap long, they feel really rewarding to fight.
I feel like they haven't done enough this year, if the driving was good I would give a pass, since career would be really fun with this AI. But driving is a downgrade for what they are capable and doesn't feel good enough. They need to step it up, MotoGP also have a yearly game and if you compare MotoGP feels superior and they feel to have more improvements. Also this amount of improvements would be good if they adjusted the pricing like F1 Manager did, but they didn't, and not only that, F1 Manager lowered the price and introduced their biggest update yet in a new my team mode and more gameplay features.
I think this year they will take a hit in sales, and that would be lovely since it's the wake up call Codemasters and EA need. They are capable of doing great games, but right now they are focusing in gimmicks and marketing which aren't important and most of them are bad for the game like F1 world nonsense and whatever bad word you wanna use for the supercars. They need to focus on having a fun driving on the wheel, and give us more gameplay content, not marketing gimmicks, I know that having features to market is really important, but you need to work on your branding EA. Right now the game branding is really bad, and you can improve it if you keep your heads down for a couple of years.
I won’t buy it, nothing new irl aside from Credit card F1 Team along with Drake F1 Team. 2025 will be a very good year I feel. Also as mentioned $70 for a standard game is bs, it looks barely changed ngl
All the reviews on the handling for F1 24 from racing game creators have concluded it is, well, how can I put this. SHITE. But hey at least you get the F1 24 handling is good group up and running.
I saw Alex Gillons video. These guys raced the old game for hundreds of hours, drive on a high level and are very used to the handling characteristics. When there is a big change, of course you don't like it. For 95% of the playerbase who is not minmaxing and competitive it does not matter. I play multiple Sim titles and I was able to easily adapt quickly and had a good feeling for the car (on a more casual level). I would compare it to Gran Turismo 7, you feel that it is made for Contoller with a priority and wheel support 2nd -Michel
@@OverTake_gg If this game cost £30 or less I would totally agree with you. But it does not. The base game alone will set you back £60 at launch! The game clearly has questionable issues for wheel setup and/or car handling. Just my opinion but I also think you are way off the mark with the playerbase expectations. If anything I think 95% are minmaxing and competitive! But I could be wrong. Lets see what that playerbase thinks when the game is released?
@@OverTake_gg Either you're not a trustworthy news source or you're even sponsored by EA to say this. Like, how can you cope this much?
Saying that we are sponsored when we have an opinion that we back up with numerous arguments is not really useful and is simply not true.
Several people in our team have tested the game, stand behind our impression, and we are all not F1 Esports drivers or F1 creators, but average sim racers, some of us with real motorsport experience and a passion for cars. Yes, in F1 24 the cars are much more direct, as we said in the video. It was also mentioned that it sometimes feels a bit artificial on the wheel, and you can tell that the handling has been designed for a wide audience and with the controller in mind. The most trustworthy source is you, because these things are sometimes very subjective - so try the game yourself before you give your opinion and refund if you don't like it. -Michel
@@OverTake_gg I think the biggest thing is that the handling an eSports driver likes is usually not what your average player likes nor what even some F1 drivers like.
EA apparently worked closely with Max Verstappen when it came to the handling characteristics of the car, they also consulted creators instead of eSports drivers this time. People like Alex Gillon will only look at the game from the lense of league racing and eSports. They will also deliberately overblow the situation by calling the handling an "unmitigated disaster" because they found a quirk in the handling physics that'll probably be patched out pretty quickly.
I'm happy that the front end has more bite and that putting down the power is easier because from what I can tell, that is how F1 cars handle and for years F1 drivers have said there isn't enough bite or grip in the F1 games.
Same crap as last year.. this should have been released as a PATCH not a full priced game. Im saving my cash..sorry EA not this time.
Another Copy paste job with the same old bugs
You clearly don't understand the new game, it also has the brand new game-changing feature of being more expensive!
Tbf, this game especially when it comes to driving physics is FAR front a copy and paste, the changes might be for the worst, won’t know till I get my hands on it but this is a huge change
@@CJ-uh8bk Let's wait and see. I wouldn't be surprised if all those who are now complaining have driven with the standard setups. Most of the problems can certainly be solved with the right setups. I think it was even mentioned some time ago that setups will play an important role this year.
@@benn8793 they can’t this is the problem, Alex Gillion for example made a setup to make the car feel more normal (like F1 23), and it kind of worked and he said the setup felt more normal, but it is also way way slower, when f1 games come out if you don’t run meta setups online you can’t win, and the meta this year is basically drifting through high speed corners
@@CJ-uh8bk I couldn't care less about online or meta. I play the game on my own in career mode. I couldn't care less about anything else.
Sounds like he got paid

I'm pretty sure we would choose a title like this if we were sponsored by EA. :P -Michel
Hopefully it’s not complete garbage like 2023. What a huge step back that game was.
f1 23 was the best f1 game tbh. f1 22 sucks
@@kylodean4424 the graphics on 2023 look awful on triples. It suffers from the same zoom in effect that WRC does. Complete garbage experience in a sim rig.
f1 22 always WAS the garbage that 23 somehow fixed. I still however wondering how i clocked in more than 300 hours of playtime with that handling mess of a game it was.
@@ailabyuhphage08 do you play on triples?
@@dauntae24 I play in vr but didn’t look weird on 27 triples or on single ultrawide..
What's going on here? Why are you guys hiding that the game sucks?!
Why do you think we are hiding something? Have you played the game, or where does your opionion come from? I said in the video "it feels artificial on the wheel", "its not for Sim Racers", "based on Controller handling" etc. etc.
This is clearly a game for a wider audience, like a Gran Turismo. It's not for the majority of the Sim Racing bubble or tailored towards E-Sports drivers. And it's been like this for years. I don't get why so many people are that vocal about it this year. -Michel
@@OverTake_gg Fair enough

How much is EA paying you guys 😂😂
Nothing, otherwise you would see a sponsored tag somewhere. -Michel
@@OverTake_gg you don’t need a sponsored tag to be sponsored in a video. You’re literally talking about the game all video this isn’t like NordVPN or something . Amazing how gullible people are.
